Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will be introduced to the plant life cycle through a brief lecture and interactive Nearpod
slides. The teacher will explain the different stages of the plant life cycle and how plants get their
nutrients from air and water. Students will be made aware of their goals, which include
understanding the plant life cycle and creating a podcast to explain their knowledge.

Students will use Spotify for Podcasters to create a podcast episode. They will work in groups to
script, record, and edit their podcasts, incorporating information learned in class. The teacher will
provide guidance on using the podcasting tool, facilitate brainstorming sessions, and help students
outline their scripts. Feedback will be provided through peer reviews and teacher assessments of the
podcast drafts.

Managing student learning:

The use of Spotify for Podcasters will shift students from passive to active learners by engaging them
in the creation and sharing of original content. Students will be encouraged to collaborate, share
ideas, and provide feedback to their peers.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.

Multiple Means of Engagement: The podcasting activity engages students by allowing them to
express their understanding in a creative and personalized way. It caters to different interests and
motivates students through the use of technology.

Multiple Means of Representation: Using podcasts provides an alternative means of representing

knowledge, catering to auditory learners and those who might struggle with traditional written
assignments.

Multiple Means of Action & Expression: Creating a podcast allows students to demonstrate their
learning through speaking, scripting, and audio editing, offering diverse ways for students to express
their understanding.

Reflection: Designing this lesson with podcasting activities will likely enhance student engagement
and learning by providing a creative outlet for expressing their knowledge. I look forward to seeing
students take ownership of their learning and produce unique, informative podcasts that
demonstrate their understanding of the plant life cycle.
