Preso and Tatsing, including how the games are played, the role of player and the
objectives of the game.

II. CONCEPTS
Tumbang preso ("knock down the prisoner"), also known as tumba lata ("knock down the can")
or bato lata ("hit the can with a stone]"), is a Filipino traditional children's game. The game
involves throwing a slipper at a can or bottle, which one player - the tayà - attempts to guard.
The game is usually played in backyards, parks, or in streets when there is little traffic in an
area.

Tumbang Preso involves much physical activity like running, also skills in strategic planning and
agility to avoid being tagged. Tumbang Preso is not just a game. It's a fun outdoor physical
activity that helps players develop strategic planning skills and agility.

OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME:

The objective is for the players to hit and knock down the can with the slipper, and for the tayà
to put back the can inside a small circle a few meters away from the toe-line. When a player is
tagged while recovering their slippers, they become the tayà

GAME PLAY:
1. The players stand behind a predetermined line, usually a throwing line, at a distance from the
can.
2. One player is chosen as the "It" or defender. The "It" stands near the can to guard it
3. The other players take turns attempting to knock down the can by throwing a slipper or any
soft object at it.
4. The "It" must retrieve the thrown object and tag players who are attempting to retrieve their
thrown objects.
5. Once a player is tagged, they become the new "It" and switch places with the previous
defender.
6. Players must retrieve their slippers and return to the safe zone before they can be tagged.
7. If the can is knocked down, players can rush to "free" their tagged teammates by kicking the
can upright.
