● Volume of irregular object: water displacement

○ New amount of water - original amount

○ mL (milliliters)

● Cube/rectangular prism
○ LxWxH
○ Cm3

● Density: measure of amount of matter in given space. Ratio of mass to volume

● Intensive physical property: a property that doesn’t depend on the amount of substance present. Since density is a ratio of m/v, the density
of the same substance will e the same no matter how much you have

● Float: The density of object is less than fluid it’s in

○ An object will float if the buoyant force is greater or is equal to weight of an object
● Sink: The density of object is greater than fluid it’s in
○ An object will sink if the buoyant force of the fluid is less than the weight of the object

Archimedes’ principle: The buoyant force acting on a submerged object is = to the weight of the fluid it displaces.

Density is a physical property that can help you identify substances by referring to a table of unknown densities

Positive buoyancy: Buoyant force is greater than weight, so object floats

Neutral buoyancy: Buoyant force = weight, object is suspended

Negative buoyancy: Buoyant force & weight, object sinks

Buoyant force = weight in air - weight in water

More dense = more molecules and more squeezed together, Less dense = less molecules and more spaced out

Force: a push or pull, measured in Newtons CNs
