C. Slowly advance the film by stroking the Film Advance Lever as far
to the right as it will go. lf the lever stops midway,press the Shutter
Release Button to free it for another stroke. Be sure that the holes
on both sides of the film are caught by the teeth on the Film Trans-
port Sprockets.
NOTE: The film must pass under the Take-upSpool when advanced.
D. Gently turn the Rewind Knob clockwiseto take up the slack in the
film.
E. Close the Film Compartment Door and advance the film several
t i m e s u n t i l t h e n u m b e r " 1 " a p p e a r s i n t h e E x p o s u r eC o u n t e r W i n d o w .

The speed at which the two shutter curtainspass across the film is
m e a s u r e d i n f r a c t i o n so f a s e c o n d t h a t c o r r e s p o n d t o t h e n u m b e r s o n
the Shutter Speed Dial. (250 is 1/250 second, 2 is 1/2 second, etc.)

SPOTREADING
T h e " S p o t " m e t h o d o f e x p o s u r e c a l c u l a t i o ni s e s p e c i a l l y v a l u a b l e w h e n
the most important part of the picture is either much lighter or darker
than the surrounding area, as in a landscape,where the sky is much
brighter than a tree or house. A picture like this would be under-
exposed if measured with the camera'saveragingmeter.
"Spot" readings are also useful in dim light, such as indoor or night
scenes, because the "Spot" meter reacts more quickly under these
c o n d i t i o n st h a n a n a v e r a g i n g m e t e r .
To take a "Spot" reading, set the shutter speed and move the Spot/
A v e r a g e S e l e c t o r S w i t c h t o t h e " S " p o s i t i o n .T h e s m a l l p o i n t e r a t t h e
b o t t o m o f t h e v i e w f i n d e rs c r e e n w i l l p o i n t t o t h e l e t t e r " S " . L o o k t h r o u g h
the viewfinder and aim the camera so the brackets fall on the most
important part of the picture. For the most accurate reading be sure
the bracketed area doesn't include objects much lighter or darker than
the area you want to measure.
A V E R A G ER E A D I N G
lf your subject is not surroundedby very light or dark areas,and is not
backlit,the averaging system is often the best to use.
Push the Spot/Average Selector Switch to the letter "A". The pointer in
the lower section of the viewfinder will move outside the brackets to
the "A" to remind you the entire picture area is being measured by the
meter.

1. Turn the Shutter Speed Dial untilthe shutterspeed you wish to use

2 . R o t a t e t h e A p e r t u r e R i n g o n t h e l e n s u n t i lt h e n e e d l e t o t h e r i g h t o f t h e
finder is centered between the open ends of the index mark. When
t h e n e e d l e c e n t e r s ,t h e e x p o s u r e w i l l b e c o r r e c t . l f t h e m e t e r n e e d l e
does not come to the center no matter what aperture you choose,
c h a n g e s h u t t e r s p e e d s . W h e nt h e n e e d l e i s o n t h e ( + ) s i d e , t h e p i c t u r e
is overexposed and you need to select a faster shutterspeed. When
t h e n e e d l e i s o n t h e ( - ) s i d e ,t h e p i c t u r e i s u n d e r e x p o s e d a n d a s l o w e r
speed shouldbe chosen.

Push the rewind button on the camera bottom and slowly turn the rewind

but if for some reason you're not sure, hold the rewind crank and
advance the film lever 3 or 4 strokes. lf there is no tension on the re-

back, pull up the rewindknob, and remove the film cartridge.

and still get everything into your picture. Button the lens will automatically "stop down" to the
aperture you selected and re-open immediately.
PR ES E TLE N S E S
Preset lenses have 2 parallel rings controlling the
aperture setting. One, the preset ring has click-stops at
the numbered aperture positions.The other, the dia-
phragm control ring, turns freely, without click-stops.
Using the stop-down metering method, turn the preset
r i n g u n t i l t h e n e e d l e i n t h e v i e w f i n d e rl i n e s u p c o r r e c t l y .
Then open the lens to maximum aperture with the dia-
phragm control ring, for focusing. After focusing, close
the diaphragm down to the preset position by turning
the diaphragm control ring in the opposite direction. lt
will stop at the preset aperture.
