Project Summary
Eight members of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC) have collaborated to create the
integrated transnational study programme Redesigning the Post-Industrial City (RePIC), a two-year,
English-taught joint master degree with 120 ECTS. Building on the complementary strengths of the vibrant UNIC
Partnership and involving a broad range of associated partners from government, industry, and the public, RePIC
provides for visionary, future-oriented perspectives on the city and a life-changing physical and virtual student
mobility experience. RePIC fosters multidisciplinary and cross-cultural thinking to critically respond to issues of
superdiversity by placing inclusion and mobility at the very core of its new inter-university campus, and thereby
transcending cultural, national, and disciplinary boundaries. RePIC students can meaningfully engage in shaping
society by developing an understanding of post-industrial cities and their environments and by creating
research-based solutions to advance urban transformations. Based on a rigorous curriculum, RePIC serves as a
catalyst for innovative education putting a spotlight on engaged research and evidence-based practices such as
City Labs. Our ambition is to build a global knowledge and innovation community committed to the co-creation,
co-design, and co-production of transformative approaches to more sustainable and resilient urban futures
around industrial heritage settings and cities in transition. RePIC will enrol its first students in fall 2023. The intake
of students takes place annually, with an anticipated cohort size of 60 students. Graduates will be awarded a joint
master degree that will allow them to make a difference in this challenging world and transfer the community
responsibility orientation of the course into society.
