Abstract

An abstract is a short summary of your (published or unpublished) research paper, usually about

a paragraph (c. 6-7 sentences, 150-250 words). An abstract is a short summary of a longer work

(such as a thesis, dissertation or research paper). The abstract concisely reports the aims and

outcomes of your research, so that readers know exactly what your paper is about. Although the

structure may vary slightly depending on your discipline, your abstract should describe the

purpose of your work, the methods you’ve used, and the conclusions you’ve drawn.

Introduction

Background of the Project

Classroom cleanliness has positive impact on students’ academic performance. A clean

classroom is a predictor of both good academic performance and students engagement in class.

(Hanaysha, et al., 2023).

Cleanliness is one of the values taught to Filipino students; thus, they are traditionally

tasked with cleaning their own classrooms, from wiping away the writings on the board to

sweeping the floor, dusting the windows, and arranging the chairs. Waxing and polishing the

floors are usually only done in public schools because their floors are made up of pure concrete

and not ceramic tiles. Floor wax is used to improve the appearance of hard floors by making

them shiny, but it is not only for aesthetic purposes; it also serves as floor maintenance by

making them water and dust resistant, therefore making the floors easier to clean in the long run.

Floor wax is usually applied by squeezing the wax from its plastic container on the floor,

then spreading it using a small rag by hand or by foot. According to some participants, the

bending and reaching motion when waxing the floor causes backache and numbness in certain

parts of their body. The strong smell of the wax was also inhaled by the students due to their

close proximity to the wax. Their clothes might also be accidentally stained by the wax.

Objectives of the Project

The purpose of the study is to improve and innovate the experience of high school

students in waxing the floor using the Wax Dispensing Mop.

• To assess the design of the wax dispensing mop in terms of ease of use and its

effectiveness in reducing strain on the user's back.

• To evaluate the effectiveness of the wax dispensing mop in evenly applying floor wax

compared to traditional methods.

• To assess the time efficiency of using wax dispensing mops compared to the traditional

application method.

• To investigate the safety benefits of the wax dispensing mop in reducing the risk of

back

injuries among users, particularly students.

Significance of the Project

The Wax Dispensing Mop is a product to easily wax the floor without bending down

which makes waxing the floor easier. Additionally, students will be able to efficiently wax the

floor without consuming much time. The result of this study will contribute mainly to the high

school students of City of Malolos Integrated School – Sto Rosario.

To the students. Students would be able to wax the floor much faster and more

efficiently without hurting their backs and also without getting dirty.
6
RUNNING HEAD

To the janitors. Janitors would be able to wax the floor much faster and more efficiently

without hurting their backs and also without getting dirty.

To the household. In the house, they would be able to wax their floor much faster and

more efficiently so that they can do their other chores like cooking, laundry or even take a rest

and to bond with their family.

To the future researchers. Future researchers can use the product as their basis for their

own research.

Scope and Limitation of the Project

The scope of the study basically refers to the level of coverage of the research subject

being investigated and the good statement of the problem will act as a helpful guide to doing this.

That means, if the problem had been properly stated at the beginning, it helps, certainly, in

defining the scope of the research. That is why the scope of the study is partially dependent on

the title of the research project. If well formulated, the phrase of the title only does define the

scope of the study and possibly, needs a little rider to make it clearer. The limitation of the study

represents the things and issues that constituted challenges in the process of investigations.

This chapter will also include the 5 Whys Analysis and the Ishikawa (Fishbone

Diagram). The researchers will need to actually analyze the scenario that is happening in

order to make sure that the problem they wanted to solve will actually better the society or

locale they are making the project for.

At the end of the chapter, the researchers should establish the root cause of the

problem that they are observing. Once the problem was set, they can now proceed to make a

project that will resolve that root cause.

9
RUNNING HEAD

Theoretical Framework of the Project

Waxing adds shine to your floors which can brighten the room and give off a squeaky

clean appearance. Manual process of waxing can allow for more flexibility, customization,

and innovation. A manual cleaning tool is a machine that people can operate by hand instead

of needing electricity. In a study conducted by Kumar & Kapilan (2015), cleaning machine

that doesn't rely on electricity, is especially useful in places where there are often power

shortages.

Vinod et al., (2021), discusses a study about making a better floor cleaning machine to

keep floors clean without needing too much manual work. On the other hand Chopade

(2017), talks about using technology to make life easier for busy people, especially for those

who are working in offices. They noticed the need for a floor cleaner because of everyone's

busy schedules. To support Chopade, Wallius et al., (2016) also stated that using an automatic

floor wax applicator will distribute wax evenly across the floor and then wipe it with a rug,

making the waxing process easier and less physically demanding. In talk about physical

activity, Bolofer et al., (2020) looked at how the height of a mop handle affects shoulder

muscle activity and how hard it feels to clean the floor.

Cleanliness comes in different forms and can be too complicated because it is one of

the most important thing, for it builds up a healthy environment that facilitates physical and

mental well-being and growth especially to the students so it should not be taken lightly.

Project Testing

For a capstone project, usually the conceptual framework will be going to be an IPO

model. IPO will tell the whole process of how the project will go, and what inputs and

outputs will be expected in every part of the journey to make the project.

Locale of the Project

The locale of the project will talk about where the project will take place or where the

project is intended for. It is just a simple explanation of the place.

Problem Identification and Project Planning

This will discuss what the researchers will do in order to identify the main problem of

the project and what analysis they did. This will also talk about the planning stage in order to

start the whole project

Project Actualization
11
RUNNING HEAD

This part will talk about the materials or ingredients that will come up to make the

prototype of the project. This will also include a prototype sketch and the processes to make

the prototype.

Project Testing

This involves how the product will be tested, if it will involve experimentation, how

and who will be involved. This will also talk about ow the researchers will now if the product

is a success.

Assessment Instructions The user will have to pull the handle of the device and drag it
across a 10-meter flat road.
Expected Outcome The device will move across the road smoothly. The four
wheels attached under the device should roll without any
interruption.

Ethical Considerations of the Project

Ethical considerations in research are a set of principles that guide your research

designs and practices. Scientists and researchers must always adhere to a certain code of

conduct when collecting data from people.
