Control Firmware
update_Entwurf 12-2008.doc
Only the firmware for Sigma Control is updated with this software. The new version includes further
developments and fault analysis optimisation.
The menu structure and all software functions specific to the compressor remain unaffected. All
settings and operating parameters are taken over.
The update automatically detects the firmware installed on the controller and selects the new version
appropriately. If a software version is installed for which no update is intended, this is also detected and
the update is aborted.
• The KAESER update program can update 7.7000.0 und 7.7001.0 Sigma Control
controllers.
• Do NOT use this software for the new hardware versions [7.7000.1 und 7.7001.1].
Attention: This program is protected by the German Copyright Act and international contract
regulations. Unauthorised duplication or unauthorised sale or distribution of these programs or any
part thereof is punishable by law. Such violations will be prosecuted under both penal and civil law
codes and may result in heavy penalties and claims for damages.
The software will be distributed through the “KAESER Marketing Infotheque” (KMI) or per
download. Downloaded programs are packed as zip files. These have to be unpacked with a
standard Zip program (e.g. WinZip).
What is needed?
• A null modem cable (material number 7.5746.1) with a COM1 or COM2 interface
plug for the notebook and a 9-pole SUB-D plug for Sigma Control

– approx. 15 minutes
The compressor cannot be operated during this period.
Procedure:
1. Find out where to switch off the power supply to Sigma Control. It is simplest on European
compressors to use the equipment circuit breaker Q0 in the control cabinet.
4. Start the “Update_SCFirmware_V2” program from the desktop or the folder in which the
software was installed. Close all other programs before starting.
Make sure that the notebook/PC does not switch to standby during the update.
7. Log files
The progression of each update is written to a log file. The log files have the filename
“KAESER SigmaControl FW Updater“. If several updates are carried out without deleting
the old log files, they are automatically numbered. The current file is not given a number.
The software automatically opens a folder for the log files, if required. If this is not needed,
another path can be selected. We recommend that the log file is permanently saved to a
suitable folder should technical advice be needed later.
9. Switch the control voltage in the compressor off and on again. This is necessary to
establish data flow synchronisation between the PC and Sigma Control.
10. The software automatically detects which firmware is installed in Sigma Control. If a version
is installed in the controller for which no update is intended, this is automatically detected
and the update is aborted.
11. If the detection check is successful, the existing firmware is automatically replaced by the
current version. The successful update is confirmed by the message below.
12. Disconnect the communication cable and unlatch the EMERGENCY STOP pushbutton.
Start the compressor again afterwards.
13. Check the new firmware version on the display during a reboot.
Send the log file to service support per email with any queries. In addition, information on
the operating system, the null modem cable (manufacture, pin connections) and the PC
used is required.
Create an additional service message. Save the log file in message plain text using CTRL
C and CTRL V.
