A.

ACTIVE DIRECTORY INSTALLATION

1. Set static IP for the server and change the computer server name.
a. Go to Control Panel, then go to Network and Sharing Center.

b. Click Local Area Connection Or Change Adapter Settings.


c. Then click properties.

d. Don’t forget ton Uncheck the Internet Protocol Version 6 TCP/IPV6


e. Double Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 TCP/IPV4 or click Internet
Protocol Version 4 TCP/IPV4 then click properties.

f. Set a static IP address for the server. (We can assign any valid IP Address
from class A, class B or class C)
2. Change the Computer Name of the SERVER.

a. Go to Computer Properties (click Start then right click on Computer)

b. Click Change Settings button.


c. Under Computer Name/Domain Changes window set the computer name in
Computer Name box. (Assigned any server name for the server computer. Note:
Avoid using spaces when assigning two words for the server name )

d. You will prompt to restart your computer in order to apply changes.

3. Install the Active Directory Domain Services.

a. After restarting your server open the Server Manager which can be located on the
Task Bar.
b. Click Add Roles.

c. Add Roles Wizard will appear then click Next button.


d. Select Server Roles check on Active Directory Domain Services.

e. Then click Add Required Features button.

f. Click Next button


g. Then click Next button again

h. Then click Install button


i. Wait until installation progress bar finish.
j. Then click Close button.

k. Then Close the Server Manager Window.


l. Then click Start button and type DCPROMO.EXE on the search box and click
the DCPROMO.EXE on the result Window. (Before doing this make it sure that
the server is connected in atleast one Client Computer via LAN Cable)

m. The Active Directory Domain Services Installation Wizard window will appear
then click Next button
n. Then click the Next button.

o. Click Create a new Domain in a Forest option then click Next Button.
p. Type your desired Forest Root Domain Name. (Note: The domain name
assigned here will serve as the domain name of all the client pc connected on the
server.)

q. Select Windows Server 2008 R2 in Forest Functional Level box then click Next
button.
r. DNS Server box has checked then click Next button.

s. Click Yes Button in Active DirectoryDomain Services Installation Wizzard


window.

t. Then click Next Button.


u. Type the Administrator Password then click Next button

v. Click Next button in Summary.


w. Click the Reboot on Completion check box and wait till the installation finish
and it will automatically restart the server.

x. After the server restarted, open the Server Manager to check if the Active
Directory Domain Services is successfully installed.
i. Expand Active Directory Domain Services

ii. Expand Active Directory Users and Computers

iii. Expand your created networking.local


B. DNS CONFIGURATION

CONFIGURING DNS REVERSE LOOKUP ZONE

a. Click Start button then select Administrative Tools then select DNS.

b. Expand Server then right click on Reverse Lookup Zone.


c. Click Next button in New Zone Wizard window.

d. Don’t change any option just click Next button.


e. Don’t change any option just click Next button.

f. Don’t change any option just click Next button.

g. Type 10.0.0 on Network ID (Note: Network ID is the first three digit IP


Address assigned previously), then select Reverse Lookup Zone Name then
click Next button.
h. Don’t change any option just click Next button

i. Then click Finish button


j. Select your created Reverse Lookup Zone then right click on the right window
pane and select New Pointer(PTR).

k. Type 10.0.0.1 on Host IP address then type server.networking.local then click


OK button. (Note: server is the server name and networking.local is the domain
name assigned in the DNS Setup)
l. Right click on Server then select Launch nsLookup.

m. This window will open and your done configuring DNS Reverse Lookup Zone.
C. DHCP INSTALLATION

a. Open the Server Manager .

b. Then click Add Roles.


c. Click Next button.

d. Select DHCP Server to put check on its check box then click Next button.
e. Click Next Button

f. Click Next button


g. Type 10.0.0.1 on Preferred DNS IPV4 address which was assigned
previously in IP Address Properties, then click Validate button. Not: Make it
sure that it will display the word “Valid” then click Next button.

h. Don’t change anything just click Next button


i. Click Add button, Add Scope window will appear, then type your desired
Scope name, your starting IP address, your ending IP address and your
default gateway then click OK and click Next button.

j. Click Disable DHCPV6 then click Next button


k. Don’t change anything just click Next button

l. Click Install button then click Close button after installation


m. Expand DHCP Server, expand server.networking.local, expand IPV4,
expand scope[10.0.0.0] and select Address Pool to display your created
DHCP server configurations.
D. INSTALLING FILE SERVICES

a. Choose local drive where you want to set your file services, it is better that you make
it from a newly formatted local drive and rename the drive name as Files, just like the
one on the image below.
b. Open Server Manager then click Add Roles, then click Next and on Server Roles
panel window select File Services then click Next button.

c. Click Next on File Services then put check on the check box of File Server
Resource Manager and Window Search Service and then click Next button.
d. Put check on your Files drive then click Next button. (Note: Files is the assigned
drive of the server for the client pc)

e. Click Next button on Report Options and put again check on the check box of Volume
to Index and then click Next button then click Install button and click Close button after
installation
f. Open again your Window Explorer and then create new folder on the Files drive and
name your folder as Users. (Note: We can assign any folder name for this.)

g. Open Users folder then create Students folder inside the it.
h. Right click on the Students folder then choose Properties and select Sharing Tab
and select Advance Sharing button.

i. Put Check on Share this Folder then click Permission button.


j. Select Everyone then click Remove button and then click the Add button.

k. Then click Advance button.


l. Then click Find Now, and then look for Domain Users and select then click OK
button click again OK button on the next window.
m. Click Full Control then click Apply button and then click OK button

n. Click Caching button then select No files or program from the Share
Folder available offline then click OK button, then click Apply and then click
OK button then click Close button.
o. Click Administrative Tools then select File Server Resource Manager,
then expand File Screening Management, then select File Screen, then
click Create file Screen.

p. Click Browse button then expand Files drive expand Users folder then
select Students folder and then click OK button
q. Click Define Custom file Screen Properties then click Custom Properties
button.

r. Put check on Audio and Video Files then also put check on Executable
Files then click OK button and then click Create button on the next window.
(Note: File screening set up is used to screen all the files that will come in to
the server from client pc.)
s. Select Save on the custom properties as the template then click OK button.
D. CREATE OU (Organizational Unit) AND USER ACCOUNT

1. Creating Organizational Unit

a. Click Start button then Administrative Tools then select Active Directory Users
and Computers. Expand networking.local, then right click on networking.local,
select New, then select Organizational Unit.

b. Type Students on the Name box then click OK then minimize the window of Active
Directory Users and Computers. (Note: The name of the organizational unit should be
the same as the folder name created previously)
c. Select Start button then select Administrative Tools then select Group Policy
Management.

Expand Forest: networking.local, then expand Domains, then expand


networking.local, then right click on Students and select Create a GPO (Group Policy
for Organizational Unit) in this Domain and link it here.

d. Type Folder Redirection of Documents and Desktop then click OK button. (GPO
name depends on the group policy that you want. In this example the GPO is redirection
of desktop and Documents in the Computer Server)
e. Expand Students then Select Folder Redirection Group Policy Management
Console window will appear just click OK button then right click on Students and
select Edit.

f. Expand User Configuration, then expand Policies, then expand Windows Settings,
Select Folder Redirection, then on right panel window right click on Desktop then
select Properties.
g. Select Basic-Redirect everyone’s folder to the same location under Settings box
then on Target Folder Location select Create Folder for each User under the root
path then type on the Root Path box \\server\students then highlight it and copy. (Note:
Root path is the \\servername\foldername).

h. Then paste it on the Run command in Start Menu to test once it is working go back
to Desktop Properties window and click Settings tab. This is to validate if the root path
is correct.
i. Under Settings Tab uncheck Grant the user exclusive rights to desktop
then click Apply button.

j. A warning dialog box will appear just click Yes button.

k. Do the same process in Documents.


2. Creating User Account for the client computers.

- Again select Start button then Administrative Tools then Active Directory
Users and Computers then expand networking.local then right click on
students then select New then select User.

a. Under New Object-User Window supply the necessary information then click
Next button.

b. Supply the password for the User the click then choose from the different
password state and then click Next button then click Finish button. (Note:
The password should alphanumerical characters and a combination of Lower
Case and Upper Case characters)
E. JOINING PC CLIENT ON THE SERVER

a. On the Client PC, select Start Menu then right click on Computer then choose
Properties then click Change Settings.

b. And under System Properties window click Change button.


c. Under Computer Name/Domain Changes click Domain and type
networking.local then click OK.
(Note: networking.local is the assigned DNS in the server)

d. You will be prompted to login to the server, type administrator as user then use
assigned password then click OK button and you will be prompted in a welcome
dialog box from Server and client Pc will automatically restart. (Note:
Administrator and the password is the username and the password of the
server)
e. If the username and password of the server is correct, the Computer
Name/Domain Changes Dialog Box will prompt the message as shown below.
Click ok, then you are forced to restart the computer.

f. After restarting the client PC, click switch user to login using the newly created
account of the client pc.
g. Click Other User.

g. Type the username and password of the client pc configured in the SERVER
previously.
h. To validate if the client pc is already a member of the server the location of the
Desktop and Documents should be \\server\students\jsbustamante as shown
below.
