PART 1: MEASUREMENT OF RESISTORS USING COLOR
CODE
Q1: WHAT ARE THE APPARATUS REQUIRED TO MEASURE THE VALUE OF

RESISTOR USING COLOR CODE AND CHECKING THE VALUE?

• THE APPARATUS FOR MEASUREMENT OF RESISTOR USING COLOR

CODE

1. Set Of Wires

2. Carbon Resistors

3. Digital A.V.O Meter (Ammeter, Voltmeter And Ohmmeter)

• TO CHECK THE VALUE OF THE RESISTOR USING COLOR CODES

1. Take a resistor from the sample tray provided

2. Record its color code

3. Determine its coded resistance using the color code chart in units

of ohms

4. Determine the tolerance (in percent %) from the color code chart

5. From right to left, the second color is the multiplier. Digits from

the first colors must be multiplied with the numbers of this

colors.
6. The last color is the tolerance which is the percentage error that

would be multiplied with the digits to give the range of values of

the resistor
THE COLOR CODE CHART
Color Digits Multipliers Tolerance
Black 0 1
Brown 1 10 1%
Red 2 102 2%
Orange 3 103
Yellow 4 104
Green 5 105
Blue 6 106
Violet 7 107
Grey 8 108
White 9 109
Gold 5%
Silver 0.1 10%
none 0.01 20%

Q2: FROM THE DIAGRAM BELOW

ASSUMING THERE ARE NO COLOR INDICATED, HOW WOULD THE TABLE

LOOK LIKE? SHOW YOUR ANSWER USING THE COLOR CODING TABLE

• COLOR CODE TABLE FOR A RESISTOR WITH NO COLOR INDICATED

Color Digits Multiplier Tolerance
none ……………….. 0.01 20%

• When there is no color indicated, the digit has no value and the
multiplier has value of 0.01, while the resistor has tolerance of 20%
• ASSUMING THE VALUE OF RESISTOR IS CALCULATED AND DENOTED AS

R1, THE TOLERANCE VALUE OF HIGHER RANGE AND LOWER RANGE IS

FOUND, MULTIMETER IS TAKEN AND USING CONNECTING WIRES, THE

VALUE OF RESISTOR IS FOUND AND DENOTED AS R2. SHOW HOW

ERROR AND ERROR PERCENTAGE CAN BE CALCULATED?

• CALCULATING THE ERROR

The tolerance is multiplied by the value of the resistor.

The resistor which is denoted with R1, an assumption of R1 = 200 ohms, but a

10% error range , meaning the resistance could be anywhere between 195 -

205 ohms

Therefore; the error can be calculated by the difference between the

experimental values and accepted value to get the error in the resistor

denoted with R2

• CALCULATING THE PERCENTAGE ERROR

Percent error; The absolute value of the error divided by the accepted value

and multiplied by 100%

PART2: CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

Q1

• NAME THE COMPONENTS REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE ABOVE CIRCUIT

DIAGRAM
1. Resistors
2. Capacitors
3. Diode

Q2
• LIST OUT THE PROCEDURE REQUIRED TO ASSEMBLE THE ELECTRONIC
COMPONENT AS PER GIVEN CIRCUIT DIAGRAM ON A BREADBOARD
• PROCEDURES
Step1: insert the diode into the breadboard
Step2: insert the diode into the breadboard
Step3: insert the wire link into the breadboard
Step4: connect the battery to the wire link
Q3
• WHAT WOULD BE THE OUTPUT AFTER CONNECTION?
After the last procedure which is the connection of battery
The diode emits light as an output.
