Durango Mining Records and Administration

Surrounding the city are a fair amount of bountiful mineral deposits. Some natural gas and oil
have been found, but primarily rare stones or useful minerals are more evident.

Early on the claims of prospectors and opportunists were settled with the barrel of a gun or a
knife in the dark. After several small wars between mining concerns, the now established city
government took charge of the situation and established the DMRA .

The DMRA is a combination of city clerk’s office and guild. To mine in the surrounding area
(approximately 10 miles from the city border) must have a permit to stake a claim. A flat fee of 100cr is
required per year. As a member, the DMRA offers a legal system for disputes, priority of claims over
non-members (non-members are always considered infringing if arguing a claim with a member), and
limited protection from the Durango Sheriff’s Department.

The administrative aspect of the DMRA involves the registering, acknowledgement, and
mapping of claims. Each time a claim is staked with the department, the miner pays 250cr. Registering
the claim with DMRA ensures that no claim jumping occurs and that the claim is mapped by the city
cartographer’s office to make an official record of the process. For an additional 200cr, a surveyor will
come out and mark the claim boundaries down to the last centimeter.

All claims registered must pay a tax of 5% of all profits to the DMRA, which is used to pay
employees and maintain operations.

The guild is run by a commissioner appointed by the city council. The current commissioner is a
grizzled partial construction mining borg named Gungan Vance. He was originally a miner in Silverado
but retired to the south where he was offered the job. He is gruff but fair and has a skewed sense of
humor that unfamiliar people would mistake as cruel.

2. Grease and Rust Robot Wash

While repairs and refits for combat robots are essential, sometimes you just want to clean up
and have minor maintenance done without paying for a full repair bay.

Enter Paulos Techolate. Pauly (as he like to be called) was performing roadside assistance for
various bots and vehicles that had minor problems. Blown tires, holed through air skirts, coolant refills
and the like. After a few years of savings, he opened his own shop which has grown to accommodate the
needs of his clientele. Oddly enough, detailing and general cleaning of all manner of combat vehicles
was his best seller!

Repair and salvage services are found all over most cities. However, no one has the time or the
equipment to spend on such "trivial details". Paulos' shop provides these quick and easy services and
fair rates. Cleaning and detailing of both the interior and exterior is 150cr for power armor, 500cr for
robots and combat vehicles. Add +30% if there is a lot of stains, blood or other detritus of the icky kind
to remove. Servicing of fluids and replacing of easily accessed filters, gaskets and the like is 250cr plus
parts (typically 1d4x10cr for power armor, 1d6x10cr for robots/combat vehicles). Most 'bots and armor
need this service done every 4-5 months so business is good for Pauly.

3. Daisy Mae's
Daisy Mae Butler is a fixture in the city of Durango. She first started the bar after buying it from
the owner she worked for. Times were lean in the beginning as Durango had not become quite the
boom town that it is today. She made it through by being a comforting soul who would listen to the
miner's and townsfolk's troubles, setting her own issues aside to give them a shoulder to cry on and a
caring ear to their stories.

Eventually even Daisy's caring demeanor could only pull in so much business. With more and
more transients coming to town, she couldn't rely on her reputation to grab the interests of passersby.

Western Villa Telecom opened about 6 years ago and brought wide access media coverage to
the city. In addition to communications and hardlines to other communities it brought forth a slew of
programming and shows never seen since the Golden Age, especially sports. From murderball to football
and everything in between a whole new entertainment source was available to those who could afford
it.

Daisy invested in WVT and bought into the rights for sports contests across the area (she had a
fair number of extra credits she had saved over the years). Her investment paid off as she updated the
bar with more comfortable seating, a full-service kitchen and multiple video screen and even two large
scale holo-tanks to allow customers to relax, eat, drink and take in their favorite sports.

The service includes local brewed beers and other drinks (3-4cr a bottle), chicken wings,
hamburgers and even some more exotic fare as it becomes available (10-20cr a plate mounded with
food). She makes her money from the volume of customers and the under the table side betting (5%
take). Daisy has been approached by the black market recently to fold into their gambling activities, but
she has so far resisted it. Only time will tell if they decide to make her an offer she CAN'T refuse.

4. Rusty Barrel Lounge

A small, ramshackle tavern that sells hard liquor and beers (3cr a bottle of beer, 2cr a shot or
30cr for a bottle). Mostly locally brewed and mid quality drinks. The interior is dimly lit, and it has
become quite the hangout for the local street gangs who consider it neutral ground and a place to meet
for diplomatic (sort of) discussions between them. A large wolfen bouncer named Taz (4th level
wilderness scout) uses the place as a side job enforcing the rules.

5. Spotless Shine Cleaners

A small store with a larger than usual back room extending for some 60'. A dry cleaner for
clothing of all types and fabrics. In addition to those services the shop can also repair minor damage to
non-EBA armors (no more than 20% reduction in protection). Prices range from 15-100cr depending on
the job and materials to be cleaned.
