INTRODUCTION LAPORAN MEBI DHEA
A. Background
The ability to speak English is a very important skill in the current era of globalization. In
an educational context, speaking skills are very important in building a cultured character.
Students learn English not only to master grammar and vocabulary, but also to develop
effective speaking skills. By having good speaking skills, students can share ideas and
opinions with others, thereby improving critical thinking and adaptability. Apart from
that, speaking skills also enable students to develop creative and strategic thinking skills,
thereby enhancing better thinking abilities (Alishahi & Ashraf, 2016).
Panti Asuhan Kasih Setia Medan, which accommodates children aged 5-15 years, who
have a need to provide English language education, especially in speaking skills.
Children in these orphanages have diverse backgrounds and often do not have the
opportunity to learn English well. Thus, it is important to design and implement effective
and structured teaching programs to improve their speaking abilities.
Teaching English, especially speaking skills, at the Panti Asuhan Kasih Setia in Medan
aims to improve children's communication skills in English. The importance of speaking
skills in English cannot be ignored, especially considering the role of this language as a
global communication tool. Children who are fluent in English have better opportunities
in various aspects of life, including education and career.
In addition, designing and managing effective English courses is an important step in
ensuring that the teaching provided can achieve the desired goals. Good course design
management includes material planning, teaching methods, and ongoing evaluation to
ensure the development of children's language skills. Through good course management,
children can practice speaking English more effectively and purposefully (Kobe, 2011).
This writing will explain how the Speaking-English course is managed and implemented
specifically at the Panti Asuhan Kasih Setia in Medan. In this paper, report on what
speaking material has been taught, the importance of teaching speaking to children, as
well as how the course management took place and developed their speaking skills,
including the weaknesses and strengths of the teaching methods that have been used.
