What do you understand by the term 'Language' and 'Linguistics'?

Answer.
Good morning everyone. I’d like to explain the term `Language` and Linguistic` according to
what I understand.
According the explanation in module, Language is a system of arbitrary vocal symbols used for
human communication.
The key term in the above definition is `system`. We can observe that a language must be
systematic. For otherwise, it can’t be learned or used consistently. A very basic observation that
language contains two systems. The first is a system of sound and the second is a system of
meaning.
And what is definition of arbitrary, as I said before that language is arbitrary. The term
`arbitrary` in the definition doesn’t mean that everything about language is unpredictable. For
language don’t vary in every possible way, it means that we can’t predict exactly which specific
features we will find in a particular language if we are not familiar with that language or with
related languages.
The most important point is the main function of human language is as a tool communication and
it can be conveyed through speech, writing, or gestures.
How about linguistic? Linguistics is the scientific study of human language. In simple terms,
linguistics focuses on language and its use as a means of communication. Linguistics will take us
to learn the structure of language .
