What are the advantages and the disadvantages of teaching English by using
functional-notional approach?

The advantages.
This approach holds that the classification of skill levels should based on what
people want to do with language or in terms of what meaning people want to
convey (notions). The notional functional approach in language learning
emphasizes the communicative purpose of speaking skills. It helps students to use
real and appropriate language of communication. This approach emphasizes
communication between teachers and students so that the teacher-student
relationship becomes an interactive and also harmonious relationship. Teaching
English using this approach, students are strongly emphasized to be
communicative in using language, it makes students think and express their
opinions.
The disadvantages
