PARTICULAR SPECIFICATION – PART D

TEMPORARY SHORING WORKS

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 This Specification gives the technical requirements for all temporary shoring system and the
lateral support, herein after referred to as the Work, except where otherwise modified or
amended within the Contract. All general requirements are given in the accompanying
Particular Specification covering, but not limited to, definitions; Contractor's responsibilities;
Site conditions; Site safety; construction programme; quality control; materials; testing; Site
transportation and accommodation; temporary work; maintenance and as-built drawings.

1.2 The Work shall be carried out in compliance with the requirements of this Specification and
the drawings. The Contractor shall comply with all instructions given by the Project Manager
during the progress of the Work, and shall rectify any defective work to the satisfaction of the
Project Manager.

2.0 BUILDING REGULATIONS, AUTHORITATIVE STANDARDS AND STATUTORY


REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Where the temporary shoring system is to be used in any building work in Hong Kong, the
Work shall be carried out in compliance with the requirements of Hong Kong Building
(Construction) Regulations, Practice Note for Authorized Persons, Registered Structural
Engineers and Registered Geotechnical Structural Engineers (PNAP), British Standards (BS),
General Specification for Building (2012 Edition) (GS-ASD), General Specification for Civil
Engineering Works (2006 Edition) with all amendments incorporated in the seventh reprint
and with amendments promulgated under Corrigendum Nos. 1/2001, 2/2001, 3/2001, 1/2002
and 2/2002 incorporated, Codes of Practice (CP), the Contract drawings and written
instructions issued by the Project Manager, except where more stringent requirements are
specified herein and, in particular, the requirements of:

(a) BS4 Structural Steel Sections

2.2 STATUS OF THE SPECIFICATION

2.2.1 Where this Specification includes provisions additional to, or more stringent than those of the
aforementioned British Standards or Building Regulations, the provisions of this Specification
will prevail overall.

2.3 CONTRACTOR’S RESPONSIBILITY

2.3.1 The Work shall be carried out in strict accordance with the requirements of the statutory
regulations of the Building Authority, Specification, Contract drawings and written instructions
issued by the Project Manager.

2.3.2 The Contractor shall be entirely responsible for the safety of the Work and for taking all
necessary precautions to prevent settlement or damage to adjacent buildings, roads and
surrounding ground. He shall inspect the adjacent buildings and surrounding areas at
regular frequent intervals and shall immediately report to the Project Manager any sign of
damage or distress which may become evident.

2.3.3 The Contractor shall responsible to maintain the constructed Work, adjacent structures,
existing services/utilities and/or retaining walls. He shall monitor them at the frequencies as
shown in drawings throughout the Contract period.

2.3.4 The Contractor shall provide all necessary temporary shoring and lateral support for the
completion of the Works. The method statement and the temporary work proposal shall be
submitted to the Project Manager and the Buildings Department (if necessary) for approval.

2.3.5 The Contractor shall provide shoring to the adjacent buildings and shall move and reposition
any shores as may be necessary to get the rigs into position for construction.

2.3.6 The Contractor is responsible for the application and to obtain all necessary permits for the
execution of the Work.

2.3.7 The Contactor shall be responsible for the provision and maintenance of suitable access
roads from the public highway to the Site where the structural steelwork is to be erected.

2.3.8 The Contactor shall take full responsibility for possible damage to adjacent properties, roads,
footpaths etc., consequent upon the execution of the Contract and shall indemnify the Project
Manager through the Contactor against all loss or claim so arising.

2.3.9 The Contactor shall take full responsibility for the design, erection, maintenance and removal
of all temporary work during construction.

2.3.10 The Contactor shall be responsible for the completion of design and construction of all
temporary work within contract period. The Contactor shall be responsible to design and to
provide the temporary and shoring system to protect the existing structures and underground
structures during excavation and foundation work. The design of the temporary and shoring
system should be submitted to the Project Manager for approval of 21 days before the
commencement of work. If necessary, the design should be submitted to the Building
Authority for approval.

2.3.11 The Contactor shall be responsible for the design and erection of a complete shoring system
for the superstructure, drainage work, manhole construction and foundation work and all
temporary working platforms necessary for the completion of the Work. The shoring design
as well as subsequent necessary amendments and precautionary monitoring proposal for the
construction shall be carried out by the Contactor. All costs and time incurred in the
preparation of the shoring design shall be borne by the Contactor.

2.3.12 In case of excavation adjacent to existing building, structure or retaining structure/slope, the
design of shoring system and any necessary amendment shall include due consideration to
secure stability and working condition of the existing buildings, structures or retaining
structure/slope.

2.3.13 The shoring design and excavation plans shall be submitted together with appropriate
supporting geotechnical documentation taking into consideration of the requirements under
B(A)R 8(1)(bc), with particular emphasis on the sequence of and procedures to support
existing buildings, structures, streets, land and services during demolition, excavation and
sub-surface structural work and a report of an investigation of effects of the intended
construction on existing buildings, structures, streets, land and services including
demonstration of compliance with B(C)R 23.

2.3.14 The shoring design as well as any necessary amendment shall comply with the Building
(Construction) Regulations and shall be subject to the approval by the Project Manager and
statutory authorities (if necessary). The Contactor shall allow sufficient time for the
administrative procedures required by the Project Manager and the Buildings Department on
the approval and consent of his shoring design and excavation plans. No claim of any kind
will be entertained as a result of delay thereof.

2.3.15 The Contactor shall submit the first shoring design and excavation plans to the Project
Manager within 21 days after award of the Contract and all shoring work and excavation
procedures shall be carried out in accordance with the approval plans.

2.3.16 Necessary precautions should be taken to prevent damage to existing drains and services
encountered in and around the excavation. Should any damage occur, notify the Project
Manager, the relevant authorities and utilities companies concerned immediately and make
good at no extra cost.

2.4 INFORMATION REQUIRED WITH THE TENDER

2.4.1 The following information is required to be submitted with tender for consideration:

(a) Detailed list of equipments and plant, i.e. drilling rig, driving equipment, etc. to be
employed;
(b) Detailed bar chart programme of the Work indicating the planning and understanding
of the projects, including but not limited to the followings:

(i) statutory submissions, i.e. temporary shoring, excavation and lateral support
plans, as-built record plans, grouting proposal, consent application, etc; and
(ii) phases of construction with associated statutory submission to the Buildings
Department (BD) and Geotechnical Engineering Office (GEO) / Drainage
Services Department (DSD) for approval, consent, installation of temporary
shoring, as-built drawings, installation of the lateral support, excavation in
association with the construction etc.
(c) Method statement for the temporary work;
(d) Method statement on the dewatering for the construction;
(e) Method statement for controlling groundwater and surface water and prevention of
water ingress; and
(f) Grouting proposal.

3.0 DESIGN

3.1 METHOD STATEMENT OF TEMPORARY WORK

3.1.1 Prior to commencement of the temporary work, the Contactor is required to submit a method
statement which takes account of geotechnical considerations and gives full details of all
materials, plant and timing and sequence of operations involved in the construction of the
temporary work.

3.1.2 As part of the information provided with the method statement submit for approval full details
of the temporary earth support systems it is proposed to use associated with the construction
of the structures listed above;

3.1.3 Give due considerations to any adjacent existing services/utilities and structures nearby and
along the pavement/roads;

3.1.4 Submit the details of construction method including:

(a) Plant, equipment and labour to be deployed;


(b) Sequence for temporary work installation;
(c) Sequence for the installation of lateral support and excavation;
(d) Sequence for temporary work removal and backfilling;
(e) Grouting and pumping test proposal.
(f) Schedule of construction plant and haulage vehicles;
(g) Proposed sources of supply and uses of imported material;
(h) Method statement for the excavation and filling;
(i) Method statement for stockpiling and disposal methods;
(j) Method statement for controlling the moisture content of fill material;
(k) Method statement for controlling groundwater and surface water and prevention of
water ingress;
(l) Method statement for monitoring ground water levels and adjacent ground and
structures;
(m) Sequence of excavation and/or installation of temporary shoring; and
(n) Dewatering and water stress relief proposal.
(o) Preloading and prestressing proposal

3.1.5 Allow adequate time in the construction programme for the Project Manager’s processing of
the specified submissions. The time allowed for the statutory approval must be in no
circumstances less than 60 days for the first submission and 30 days for the amendment
submission. The Contactor shall allow adequate time in the programme for the Project
Manager's review, statutory disapproval and re-submission of plans. Do not commence the
temporary work without consent of the Buildings Department.

3.1.6 Detailed programme of the Work indicating the planning including but not limited to the
followings:

(a) Statutory submissions, i.e. temporary shoring, excavation and lateral support plans,
as-built record plans, grouting proposal, consent application, etc; and
(b) Phases of construction with associated statutory submission to BD/GEO/DSD for
approval, consent, installation of temporary shoring, as-built drawings, installation of
the lateral support, excavation in association with the construction of pile caps, etc.

3.2 DESIGN PARAMETERS

3.2.1 The Contactor is required to design and to submit the temporary shoring, excavation and
lateral support (ELS) plans, dewatering and grouting proposals for statutory approval. The
details of the temporary shoring and ELS systems shall be included as follows:

(a) Design philosophy and assumptions;


(b) Detailed design calculations and drawings;
(c) Construction procedures for installation and removal of the temporary shoring and
lateral support;
(d) Prediction of deformation of the temporary work and ground settlement and horizontal
movement;
(e) Prediction of the water drawdown due to the dewatering;
(f) Settlement assessment of adjacent structures/utilities/services;
(g) Method statement and details of the grouting proposals, if any; Assessment of ground
vibrations resulting from the temporary work that must not exceed the limits as follows

or otherwise agreed by the Project Manager: The limit should be also complied with
the requirements as stated in PNAP APP-137 and the latest PNAP.

(h) The Contactor shall provide precautionary measures to safeguard the integrity of the
existing services/utilities and structures in vicinity of the temporary work; and
(i) The Contactor shall carry out the Work in such a manner and at such times as to
minimize noise and disturbance.

3.2.2 The Contactor shall allow sufficient time in the programme for comment by various
government departments.

3.3 AVAILABLE INFORMATION PROVIDED

3.3.1 Drillhole data, laboratory testing data, existing structures/features and any other information
relevant to the Work may be viewed at the Project Manager's office by appointment at any
time during normal office hours.

3.3.2 Information provided thus is given in good faith and expressly without guarantee.

3.3.3 Accept responsibility as to the extent to which the information given represents the conditions
to be encountered.

3.4 GEOTECHNICAL STUDY AND GROUND INVESTIGATION

3.4.1 In addition to the general responsibilities provided under the Contract, the Contactor shall
carry out a geotechnical study and any necessary ground investigation so as to become fully
aware of the geotechnical characteristics of the design of temporary work or the execution of
the Work. All ground investigation work shall be carried out by a Registered Specialist Ground
Investigation Contactor as approved by the Buildings Department.

3.5 BUILDING REGULATIONS

3.5.1 The Contactor shall submit the calculations for temporary work in accordance with the
relevant Building Regulations made under the Buildings Ordinance, Geoguides, the relevant
British Standards and other relevant publications for the Project Manager’s approval before
the commencement of the Work.

3.6 DESIGN OF LOAD CARRYING ELEMENTS

3.6.1 The Contactor shall ensure all materials used as load carrying elements conform to the
relevant Building Regulations in respect of quality, and that the design conforms to the safe

working stresses laid down in those Standards to the satisfaction of the Project Manager and
the Buildings Department.

3.7 STEELWORK

3.7.1 The steelwork shall comply with the provisions of the Hong Kong Code of Practice for the
Structural Use of Steel 2011, the relevant British Standards referred to therein, the statutory
requirements of the Building (Construction) Regulations and the Particular Specification for
Structural Steelwork to the satisfaction of the Project Manager and the Building Authority.

3.8 GROUT

3.8.1 The Contactor shall provide the grout mix as shown in drawings, or otherwise, submit the
grout mix proportions and method statement for the approval of the Project Manager. All
materials shall comply and strictly follow with the manufacturer's/suppliers specification.

4.0 WORKMANSHIP

4.1 All workmanship and fabrication shall be in accordance with good practice and shall generally
comply with the recommendations of the Hong Kong Code of Practice for the Structural Use
of Steel 2011, Building (Construction) Regulations and the Particular Specification for
Structural Steelwork and to the satisfaction of the Project Manager and Building Authority.

4.2 SUBMISSIONS

4.2.1 Prior to the commencement of the Work, the Contactor is required to submit the following
information for the acceptance of the Project Manager:

(a) Details of the method of driving for sheetpiling and channel planking;
(b) Proposed plant to be used including the type, numbers;
(c) Programme for carrying out the installation work;
(d) The sequence of driving;
(e) The length of time required for completion of installation;
(f) The manpower allocation for the installation;
(g) Detailed programme indicating the followings but not limited to the followings:

(i) Installation of the temporary planking/pile;


(ii) Submission of the as-built record plan;
(iii) Anticipated date of consent for commencement of the lateral support, if
required;
(iv) Erection of the lateral support and excavation of footing/pile caps; and
(v) Phasing of excavation with associated concreting work.

(h) The sub-division of panels and sequence of the Work


(i) Proposals for checking verticality;
(j) Contingency proposals for the remedy in the event of mis-alignment, out of plumb
etc.;
(k) Proposals for pre-drilling including the type of drilling rigs, flushing medium, details of
temporary casings and method of socketting into rock, etc.;
(l) Grouting details;
(m) The detailed setting out for construction of the pile wall in relation to the Site and to
adjoining structures; and
(n) Method statement on the removal/demolition for the temporary shoring and the lateral
support at the completion of the Work.

4.3 FABRICATED SECTIONS

4.3.1 All steelwork shall be fabricated to the exact dimensions required, and shall be true to
thickness throughout and free from twist, distortion, rust, scale and pitting.

4.3.2 All planking and steel piles shall be installed in one complete section. Where necessary,
they shall be lengthened by making joints by full penetration butt-welding across the interface
in such manner that the full strength of the original section is developed. Details of the
welded joints and their formation should be in accordance with either BS1856 or BS2642,
depending on the steel quality of the piles, taken in conjunction with the Hong Kong Code of
Practice for the Structural Use of Steel 2011. The welds should be subject to normal visual
inspection.

4.3.3 Adequate facilities shall be provided for supporting and aligning the lengths of planking during
jointing so that they should be designed and constructed to maintain the true alignment of the
pile sections.

4.3.4 Any distortion of fabricated sections resulting from welding or lack of fit shall be rectified by
the Contactor to the satisfactory of the Project Manager.

4.4 WELDING

4.4.1 Welding shall generally be used for the connection of members unless otherwise noted on the
Project Manager's drawings.

4.4.2 Where welding is specified or approved by the Project Manager, it shall be carried out by
metal arc welding in compliance with the requirements of BS5135.

4.4.3 The Contactor shall furnish the Project Manager with such evidence as he may require as to
the properties of the weld metal and electrodes or other information relating to the welding
and welders employed. The Project Manager reserves the right to carry out ultrasonic
examination of the welding in general compliance with the provisions of BS3923 or such other
examination and testing as may be considered necessary.

4.5 SUPERVISION

4.5.1 The Contactor shall provide adequate and competent engineering supervision of the Work.
A well-experienced personnel on this type of work shall be provided by the Contactor and
shall be resident on Site throughout the period of installation and erection of the Work.

4.5.2 The Project Manager shall be given all necessary facilities to inspect the Work where the
structural steelwork is being fabricated at all times during the execution of the Work and shall
be entitled, at his discretion, to require the Contactor to make trial assemblies of sections of
the structural steelwork.

4.6 AS-BUILT RECORDS

4.6.1 Submit 6 hard copies and 1 soft copy of the as-built record plans in the AutoCAD® 2010
format to the Project Manager on the completion of the installation of the temporary shoring.
The plans shall include but not limited to the followings:

(a) Final elevated position of the channel/pipe pile planking/sheetpiling/soldier piles/other


temporary support system referenced by number;
(b) Levels of the bottom and top of each section as installed;
(c) Socket/embedded length;
(d) Proposed excavated level;
(e) Properties of the member; and
(f) Size of the member.

4.7 LEVELING AND PLUMBING

4.7.1 The Contactor shall be responsible for the accurate setting out, positioning, levelling and
plumbing of all steelwork in accordance with the approved drawings and to the satisfaction of
the Project Manager.

4.7.2 The Contactor shall set out the planking or pile positions in accordance with the drawings and
shall ensure that the planking or piles are installed in the correct positions. Every attempt
shall be made to drive/install the planking/piles to true horizontal and vertical alignment as
indicated on the drawings. In no case will planking be accepted where the sections are more
than ±15mm off centre outside excavation or ±10mm inside excavation or as specified in the
contract drawings.

4.7.3 The Contactor shall be responsible for any delay or costs arising from these requirements not
being met including extracting, re-driving or remedial work.

4.8 DELIVERY AND STORAGE

4.8.1 The Contactor shall deliver the steelwork to the Site for erection at such time(s) as may be
required to suit the Contactor's programme. The steelwork shall be fabricated sufficiently in
advance of the date(s) when it will be required to be delivered to the Site and shall be stored
at the Contactor's work as may be necessary so as to ensure that the delivery date(s) agreed
with the Contactor are adhered to.

4.9 MONITORING

4.9.1 The Contactor shall monitor all ground and ground water movements in the vicinity of the
installation and excavation work at the locations and times as specified or instructed by the
Project Manager.

4.9.2 The Contactor shall exercise extreme care at all times to avoid damage to mains, services or
adjacent structures.

4.9.3 If during the execution of the Work, damage is, or is likely to be, caused to mains, services or
adjacent structures, the Contactor shall submit to the Project Manager his proposals for repair
or avoidance of such damage. If damage were found on the nearby mains, services or
adjacent structures due to the construction, the Contactor shall carry out remedial work and
repair work to satisfy the requirements of the Project Manager, Building Authority and
government departments. All the remedial and repair work shall be carried out at the
Contactor’s own expense and time.

4.10 WELDING PROCEDURES AND WELDER’S QUALIFICATIONS

4.10.1 Welding shall only be carried out by approved qualified welders. These welders shall either
submit welder qualification certificates to the Architect or shall undergo an appropriate
qualification test.

4.10.2 All welding shall be carried out in accordance with BS5135. The plant and equipment to be
used shall comply with BS638.

4.10.3 No welding shall be carried out in wet weather without adequate weather protection to the
Project Manager's approval. During high winds the Contactor shall provide screens around
the welding areas to the Project Manager's approval.

4.11 DRIVING OF STEEL PLANKING AND SHEET PILING

4.11.1 The Contactor shall provide all necessary plant and equipment for and drive the steel section
to the depth as shown on the drawing or as directed by the Project Manager.

4.11.2 Planking shall be driven using equipment which is suitable for the type and size of section
concerned.

4.11.3 The Contactor shall, prior to pitching, driving etc., examine each section and assure himself
that the member is in a sound condition and suitable for driving. Should the Contactor fail to
do so, the cost of any remedial work will be to his account.

4.11.4 Corner and junction planks shall be formed by cutting, welding etc., of steel sections or such
other method as the Contactor may propose which is approved by the Project Manager.

4.12 TEMPORARY SUPPORT

4.12.1 The Contactor shall ensure that all planking / sheetpiling / temporary retaining structures are
temporarily braced or stayed to prevent loosening of the member in the ground and to ensure
that no damage resulting from oscillation, vibration or movement of any free standing member
length can occur.

4.13 SHEET PILING/ PIPE PILES /SOLIDER PILES

4.13.1 The Contactor shall supply and deliver to the Site. The sheetpiling / soldier pile / pipe pile /
others (termed as steel piles) of approved quality and all related items for construction and
carry out the installation work in accordance with the BD approved plan or Contract drawings
including all cutting and welding of steel piles as required to suit the conditions and
dimensions of the Site.

4.13.2 Each pile shall be in one whole piece and is not to be composed of more than two sections
welded together. Where the depth of the pile is such that the pile cannot cope with, each
pile may be increased in length by welding on an additional section by full butt welding.

4.14 INSPECTION TRENCH

4.14.1 Before installation of any piles, excavate an inspection trench/pit not less than 1.50m in depth
along the future positions of the piles to locate any existing and serviceable drains, gas or
water mains, cables or other underground work. Backfill the trench with selected imported
earth filling materials on completion of the Work.

4.15 INSTALLATION

4.15.1 The Contactor shall provide all necessary plant and equipment for and install the piles to the
depths and in accordance with the procedure as shown on the drawings and shall provide all
necessary temporary buttresses, supports, waling and struts, sole plates etc. and remove
same on completion.

4.15.2 The pile holes shall be sunk by means of rotary drilling method to the correct size, and the
steel pile shall be installed in position immediately after the hole is completed. Grouting shall
be carried out by "Tube-a-Manchettes" method or equivalent with grouting mix and procedure
in accordance with the approval drawing.

4.15.3 Every attempt is to be made to install the pile to true horizontal and vertical alignment as
indicated on the drawings. In no case will piles be accepted if their installed location result in
reducing the size of structures. Where additional filling is required as result of pile alignment
outside the correct line, this is to be at the Contactor's expense, such cost having been
deemed as included in his rates for installation.

4.16 INSTALLATION CLOSE TO ADJOINING BUILDINGS

4.16.1 Where piles are required to be installed close to adjoining buildings, the Contactor shall pay
particular attention during drilling and grouting to ensure least vibration and nuisance, and
shall take special precautionary measures to prevent damage to the adjoining buildings. The
method statement shall be submitted to the Project Manager for approval before the

commencement of the Work. The Contactor may require to carry out Site trial to demonstrate
the vibration effect on the adjoining buildings during installation.

4.16.2 The Contactor shall submit the initial defect survey on the existing adjoining buildings, utilities,
structures and features to the Project Manager for consideration before the commencement
of the Work.

4.17 METHOD OF SUPPORTING PILES

4.17.1 The Contactor is responsible for the provision of the entire system of walings, struts, H-pile,
etc. to support the piles, which system shall be in accordance with the approved plan by
Buildings Department or Contract drawings.

4.17.2 Temporary guide structures shall be removed when they have served their purpose.

4.17.3 The shoring and strutting, and the working procedures shall be in accordance with the
approved plan by Buildings Department or Contract drawings.

4.17.4 The Contactor shall be solely responsible for the security and stability of the shoring and
strutting, and the working procedures, and shall make all necessary modifications and/or
adjustments thereto where required and at no extra costs to the Contract.

4.18 LINES, LEVELS AND TOLERANCE

4.18.1 The Contactor shall establish and locate correctly all the lines and levels of all piles. The
tolerances for setting out at ground level and for the verticality of piles shall be in accordance
with the following requirements:

(a) Deviation from the correct line for the location of the pile wall at the ground surface as
determined by the setting out instruction:

• Not greater than 15mm outside the excavation; and


• Not greater than 10mm inside the excavation.

(b) Deviation from verticality of individual piles in any direction:

• Less than 1:100

4.19 RECORDS

4.19.1 The Contactor shall maintain complete records of each pre-drilled hole and installation of the
piles. One set of records of each hole shall be sent to the Project Manager's representative
on Site on the same day when it reaches the bottom of the pre-drilled holes as well as after
the installation of steel piles and backfilling is completed.

4.19.2 Three signed copies (or as instructed by Project Manager) of the completed records together
with Form BA14 duly signed shall be sent to the Project Manager's office within 1 week of
completion of the pre-drilled holes / installation of the steel pile wall.

4.19.3 Information to be recorded for each pile shall include the following:

(a) Contract name;


(b) Pre-drilled hole reference number;
(c) Setting out of pre-drilled hole;
(d) Ground level;
(e) Cut-off level of the pile;
(f) Depth and size of the pre-drilled hole;

(g) Bottom level of the pre-drilled holes in mPD;


(h) Socketted/embedment length into the bedrock, if any;
(i) Level of the bedrock in mPD, if any;
(j) Date of installation of H-piles; and
(k) Date of grouting and backfilling of pre-drilling hole.

4.20 OBSTRUCTIONS

4.20.1 The Contactor shall allow for removing or displacing all underground obstructions
encountered during the installation. Full details of any proposed method of overcoming such
obstructions including preboring, jetting or other means shall be submitted to the Project
Manager for approval prior to the commencement of such Work.

4.21 WORK OUTSIDE SITE BOUNDARY

4.21.1 The Contactor shall be responsible for obtaining the necessary easements and permissions
from the local authority, the Highways Department and other government departments for the
execution of the Work.

4.21.2 All temporary shoring system which is left in-situ outside the lot boundary should be cut off to
a depth of at least 2.0m below the footpath level immediately upon completion of the building
work up to the ground level. The method statement for cutting off and removing the shoring
system should be submitted for approval by the Project Manager and the Building Authority.
Upon removal of the shoring system, the Contactor shall arrange a joint Site inspection with
the Regional Office of Highways Department, or other parties prior to backfilling accordingly.

4.21.3 The Contactor is required to make good the pavement to the satisfaction of the Architect and
the statutory authority at the completion of the Work.

4.21.4 The Contactor is required to remove all temporary work and lateral supports at the end of the
Contract or otherwise agreed by the Project Manager. Submit the proposal in temporary
retaining the soil after the removal of temporary work to the approval of the Project Manager.

4.21.5 On completion of the erection or removal of the shoring system, all affected public roads shall
be reinstated to a permanent condition at the cost of the Contactor to the satisfaction of the
Project Manager. A Reinstatement Notice Form shall be submitted to the Regional Office of
Highways Department for approval accordingly.

4.22 GUARANTEE

4.22.1 In undertaking to carry out the Work comprising this Contract, the Contactor will be deemed to
guarantee that the temporary shoring and lateral support will be properly carried out as shown
on the approved plan and as specified herein. Should it be established that the Work has
not been carried out as shown on the drawings and as specified, the Contactor shall
compensate the Employer in full for all costs incurred by such failure in properly carrying out
the Work for any reason whatsoever.
