PROJECT Pisciculture, Jaljeevika
REPORTS TO Deputy Project Manager
LOCATION Dharni, Amravati
SALARY 3.60 to 4.80 Lac per annum (depending on qualification and years of experience)
TRAVEL A position requires extensive internal travel in Dharni
ABOUT US With a legacy spanning over 44 years globally, Action Against Hunger is a global
humanitarian organization dedicated to eradicating hunger. Our mission drives us to the
forefront of the battle against hunger worldwide. In India, we focus on grassroots action to
combat malnutrition's root causes and consequences for 11 years. Our mission is to equip
individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to see their children thrive and
their communities prosper.
The niche for us in India is our concentration on child malnutrition in India, employing both
nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions. We operate in four states—Madhya
Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—encompassing 1,266 rural and tribal
villages and 160 urban slum Anganwadi centers.
PROJECT DETAILS Pisciculture - an inclusive fisheries-based livelihood promotion project has been launched
in Dharni targeting tribals, fishing communities, women SHGs, migrant workers and youth
with the objective to utilize existing waterbodies for ensured nutrition, livelihood, and
income security by leveraging mainstream support and imparting better management
system.

Dharni block has great potential for fisheries-based livelihood. As per government record,
it has 144 numbers of (1750 hectare) community ponds, 120 seasonal water bodies (1197
hectare) and 24 perennial waterbodies (553 hectare).

Apart from these records, more than 600 small and seasonal waterbodies are developed
under MANREGA and watershed program. Bringing all into fisheries and aquaculture-
based livelihood will bring enough food, nutrition, and livelihood in tribal community.

Currently, we have established Aqua School in Dharni, aimed at organizing and

conducting training for interested beneficiaries in fisheries and allied activities at the local
level. The project has set up three farm ponds using an integrated farming approach and
three Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems, which are being managed by local Self-Help
Groups (SHGs). This year, our proposal includes developing and establishing a hatchery
unit for large-scale production of local seeds to supply to the existing farm ponds and
fishery units in Dharni.
