1. Scope:

This method statement describes the methodology adopted in the execution of work in connection to the
beams and slabs structure of the project, the formwork system and the pouring methods.

2. References :

1. Contract specification.
2. Approved “ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTION” dwgs.
3. Project quality plan.
4. Related inspection and test plan for concrete.

3. Responsibilities

1. The Construction Manager shall be responsible for the overall implementation of this method
statement and to ensure that the Section engineer, the Site engineer and the General foreman are
well informed about its requirements. He is responsible of :

✓ Providing all the required resources in term of manpower, equipments and material.
✓ Controlling the coordination between all parties to ensure the safety the quality and the schedule
requirements are met.
✓ Controlling the progress of work and ensure that necessary approval is obtained on time.
✓ Coordinate with batching plant for the concrete delivery tentative schedule will be given to
concrete supplier in advance.

2. The Section Engineer shall be responsible for :

✓ To ensure that the construction work is carried out in accordance with contract specification and
approved shop drawings.
✓ Notifying QC engineer and issuing the IR inspection request in sufficient timely manner (normally
24 hours in advance).
✓ Coordinate with MEP contractor engineer for marking out and installation of MEP embedment
items / cut outs.
✓ Accompany the consultant for ongoing inspection and obtain his approval.
✓ Accompany ADM’s engineer for inspection and final approval for at least one day before the
scheduled casting.

3. The Quality Manager shall be responsible for :

✓ Reviewing all the relevant documentation test reports and prepare all handing over dossier.
✓ Clearing all nonconformance related to this activity.
✓ Ensuring that all activities subject to inspection are recorded and cleared by the consultant.
✓ Controlling and organizing the inspection work.
✓ Ensuring that inspections are carried out on timely manner.

4. The Quality Control Engineer shall be responsible for:

✓ To inspect and ensure that the construction work is carried out to the required contract
specification and approved shop drawings.
✓ To inform the consultant via IR when his presence is required to carry out the inspection.
✓ Accompanying the consultant for inspection to release the hold points.

5. Materials:

6. Sequence of work:

1- Formwork

Doka formwork system will be used. The formwork system shall be “Doka flex form” composed mainly of
Doka main timber beam, Eco20 floor props marine plywood and Doka accessories erected to the required
size and dimension all in accordance with the approved Doka shop drawing.

Prior to installation forms will be coated with the approved formwork release agent. Surveyor will properly
mark the level line on walls and columns.

Ensure all formwork joints are suitably sealed against the column and walls

Approved water stop will be installed for external walls/ slab and water retaining structure in accordance
with the approved method statement for water proofing

2- Reinforcement.

a- Prior to starting with installation of horizontal reinforcement, any loose concrete on columns and wall
top shall be chipped and cleaned out. Reinforcement bars shall be supplied to site in cut and bent form
in accordance with the approved shop dwgs and bar bending schedule. The same shall be stacked
properly and shaded by tarpaulin sheets prior to installation.

b– Reinforcement bars shall than be shifted to the working location by the use of crane. Fixing of
reinforcement will start in accordance with the approved shop dwg with respect to number diameter,
spacing and cover. Approved binding wire spacing and ties will be used. Ensure that fixing is firm enough
to prevent rebar displacement during concreting.

c- Timber board will be placed over the upper layer of reinforcement for temporary access during
installation works.

d- Fix the required MEP embedment reservation cut out as per the approved builders work drawing.

a- Prior to concrete placement ensure the following items are addressed and actioned:

- All inspection are performed and approved.


- Confirmation order has been sent timely to the batching plant.
- Providing the necessary working platform.
- Providing the necessary lighting.
- A shaded area is provided for concrete sampling.
- The required staff manpower and equipment is provided and on stand by. The forms and
reinforcement are cooled prior to concrete placing by mist spraying.
- Rechecking the shutter and props for stability.

b- Receiving and quality control.

Upon commencement and receiving of transit mixers, the delivery tickets will be checked for mix grade
timing and order. Prior to discharge a slump test (max 150mm) temperature (max 30 deg C) will be
conducted on the entrance (area will be designated for taking the slump temperature and cube sampling).
In case of slump test fail, exceed the allowed temperature or exceed the allowed waiting or travel time
then the identified transit mixer will be rejected and removed from site. Cube sampling will be as per the
requirement of the specification 3300.41 item 5, 6 & 7 (3 set x 6 cubes per set for 120m³ or 500m²
whichever is greater, or 1 set x 6 cubes / set for quantity < 50m³) or cube sample can be reduced as
directed by the engineer. Samples will be marked for proper identification of pour location in the presence
of consultant representative. Cube sample will be cured and protected and will be tested as per
specification by the approved laboratory.

c- Placing.

- Concrete placing shall be carried out by the use of pump.


- While pouring, concrete shall be placed as per the attached sequence from one end of the slab
till the reach of the other end, and will be compacted by suitable size concrete vibrator, concrete
will be placed as such to prevent cold joint during the casting of the formation.

- Immediately after concrete is set, approved curing compound will be applied to the concrete
surface either by manual spray machine or by roller.

- Striking of formwork of slabs and beam soffit shall commence after 4 days from the time of placing
concrete with props left over. After 10 days props for slabs shall be removed while props shall
remain under the soffit of beams for duration of 21 days as specified. Formwork shall be cleaned,
repaired and made ready for the next use.

7. Safety:

- Prior to commencement , all activities shall be coordinated with the project safety officer who will
assess the associated risk if any, and monitor the implementation of the project safety plan and
liaise with the construction team to ensure safe working environment.

- Safety officer in charge to ensure that all workers are equipped with their PPE throughout the
construction work.

- The safety officer in charge in coordination with the construction manager will study, organize and
control all operation of this method statement.

- Safety officer in charge to organize necessary toolbox meetings for supervisory staff and
manpower to ensure that the construction team is well aware of safety.
