SETTING:

The setting of the story was in a courtroom, in the crescent county court house.
PLOT:

Scott Derrickson's supernatural horror film "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" was released

in 2005. It relies in part on the real story of German exorcism Anneliese Michel from the

1970s. The movie is a courtroom drama with a scary element. Father Richard Moore, a priest

on trial for the careless killing of Emily Rose, is the central character of the story. Father

Moore performed an exorcism on Emily, a young woman who had been having disturbing

paranormal experiences. During the trial, flashbacks are used to tell the story and show what

happened before Emily passed away. The argument between faith-based beliefs and scientific

explanations is examined in the movie, along with the issue of whether Emily's experiences

were really caused by a demonic possession or just a mental disorder. This creative and

interesting horror film combines terrifying spiritual aspects with legal proceedings.

SYNOPSIS:

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a haunting trial that follows lawyer Erin Bruner, who

defends Father Richard Moore, a priest accused of negligence resulting in the death of a 19-

year-old college freshman. The case begins with medical experts testifying that Emily was

suffering from epilepsy and psychosis. The defense contests that she may have actually been

possessed, but Bruner explains that she was suffering from something that neither medicine

nor psychology could explain. The trial begins with Emily's exorcism, performed on

Halloween night, where she speaks in various languages and is tied to the bed. The priest, her

boyfriend Jason, and her father witness the supernatural phenomena, including demonic

screams and voices. The demon inside Emily refuses to name itself after repeated demands

from the presiding Father, but eventually reveals six demons. The prosecutor contends that
her speaking in tongues can be explained by her having gone through Catholic Catechism and

studying German in high school. The priest admits that it might be possible that she could

have learned these languages in school. Bruner calls the priest back to the stand the next day,

who reads a letter Emily wrote him before she died. In the letter, Emily describes another

vision she had the morning after the exorcism, which tells her that although the demons will

not leave her, she can leave her body and end her suffering.

The priest believes that Emily received stigmata, which the priest believes is a sign of

God's love for her, but the prosecution counters that she could have received the stigmata

wounds from a barbed wire fence on her property. Father Moore is ultimately found guilty,

but on a recommendation from the jury, the judge agrees to a sentence of time served.

REFLECTION:

"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" is a 2005 supernatural horror film directed by

Scott Derrickson. The movie is loosely based on the real-life case of Anneliese Michel, a

German woman who underwent Catholic exorcism rites in the 1970s and ultimately died.

From a scientific perspective, it gives a learn from me about mental illness vs possession, It

raises awareness about stigma in mental health and underscores the responsibility of

caregivers to provide. As a religious person in the case of Emily Rose, I can say that it is a
possession it is on how Emily Rose acts. I learned that no matter what happens always pray to

god put god in your heart and take care always of yourself

Religious perspective

From a religious perspective, it could have been argued that Emily Rose's exorcism

was a very complicated affair, especially in light of the different perspectives held by other

religions. The beliefs of Catholics regarding exorcism emphasize the spiritual battle between

good and evil, with the ritual serving as a means to protect individuals from demonic

influence. The belief that People are possessed by demonic spirits comes from the belief that

demonic spirits do exist and have the ability to affect people. As the cause of evil and

temptation in the world, Christians acknowledge the existence of Satan and his fallen angels.

When someone feels that these evil spiritual beings have power over or influence over their

body and mind, this is known as possession. At the end, every opinion about exorcism will

always change in the field of religions, but as Catholics, we see this as a powerful example of

spiritual battle and the reality of demonic possession. But you can be shielded from this by

believing in God. This topic will always be complicated, as I said earlier in the field of

religion. The most important thing is that we need to respect the opinions and.

Scientific perspective

The exorcism of Emily Rose is viewed from a scientific perspective; possession and

exorcism are not accepted or helped by empirical evidence or the mainstream scientific field.

A case of Emily Rose involved severe psychiatric disorders, likely epilepsy and psychosis.

The symptoms acknowledge to possession, such as speaking in tongues, distorted body

movements, and altered mental states, can be explained by psychological and neurological
conditions such as dissociative disorders, schizophrenia, or temporal lobe epilepsy. According

to Erins Burner, Emily's attorney, he argued that these conditions can lead to hallucinations,

altered states of consciousness, and physical manifestations, which may be misinterpreted as

possession.

Philosophical perspective

The movie challenges people to consider their opinions on reality and their beliefs

from the perspective of philosophy. There are several perspectives from which to examine

Emily Rose's exorcism. The idea of evil and religious belief is one opinion. In the event that

one accepts the existence of demonic possession and supernatural powers, Emily Rose's

exorcism could be interpreted as a conflict between good and evil in which the exorcism is

performed to rid Emily Rose of the demonic entity's influence. The alternative opinion is

based on reason and doubt. One way to look at exorcism is as an expression of psychological

processes, superstitions, and cultural beliefs.

A relevant Bible verse that connects with the theme of exorcism in "The

Exorcism of

Emily Rose" could be Mark 9:29, where Jesus says, "This kind can come out by

nothing but prayer and fasting." This verse reflects the spiritual struggle against

demonic forces, emphasizing the importance of faith, prayer, and spiritual practices in

confronting supernatural challenges, aligning with the themes portrayed in the movie.
