Background Information:
Research is defined as a systematic and scientific process to answer questions
about facts and relationship between facts. It is an activity involved in seeking answers
to unanswered questions. Likewise, it seeks to generate an answer to the problems as
well as suggesting additional questions in need of further inquiry. Furthermore, it entails
collection of data; documentation of critical information; and analysis and interpretation
of that data/information, in accordance with suitable methodologies set by specific
professional fields and academic disciplines.
Important Terms Used in Research:
Abstract- is a clear, concise summary that communicates the essential information
about the study.
Data- are units of information or any statistics, facts, figures, general material, evidence,
or knowledge collected during the course of the study.
Variables- are attributes or characteristics that can have more than one value, such as
height or weight.
Independent Variables- are variables that are purposely manipulated or changed by
the researcher.
Hypothesis- is a statement of the predicted relationship between two or more variable
in a research study; an educated or calculated guess by researcher.
Literature Review- is a critical summary or research on a topic of interest, generally
prepared to put a research problem in context or to identify gaps and weaknesses in a
prior study so as to justify a new investigation.
Limitations- are restrictions in a study that may decrease the credibility and
generalization of the research findings.
Population- is the entire set of individuals or objects having some common
characteristics selected for a research study.
Research Locale- refers to the setting or place where the study has taken place.
Methodology- is a system of models, procedures and techniques used to find the result
of a research problem.
Sampling- is the process of selecting sample from the target population to represent
the entire population.

see what its impact will be on other variables.
________________3. They are facts and statistics collected for reference or analysis.
________________4. It refers to all members of defined category of elements such as
people, objects or events.
________________5. It is the location where the research study was conducted.
________________6. It is considered as an intelligent guess or prediction, that gives
direction to the researcher to answer the research question.
________________7. It contains a critical analysis and the integration of information
from a number of sources, as well as a consideration of any gaps in the literature and
possibilities for future research.
________________8. It refers to the procedures or processes in collecting data or
information to answer research problems.
________________9. It is a summary of the information in the research article.
________________10. It is any characteristic of an individual, group, organization or
social phenomenon that changes.
________________ 11. It is the process by which researchers select a representative
subset or part of the total population.
