Direct method is a method of teaching directly and naturally. In this method
vocabulary is taught through demonstrations of objects and pictures and other visual
materials. The basic goal is that students learn to communicate using language spontaneously
and orally.
Procedure Direct Method:
1. Students take turns reading the text aloud.
2. After reading, they ask questions according to their language.
3. The teacher answers it according to their language.
4. The teacher and students recite the vocabulary together.
5. Students arrange questions and statements for other students.
6. The teacher asks students to fill in the exercises.
7. Students read the exercise aloud and complete the missing words.
8. The teacher asks students to take notes by dictating.
Direct Method steps:
1. Preparation phase, in this phase the teacher explains the background information of
the lesson, the importance of the lesson, and prepares students to learn.
2. Demonstration phase, in this phase the teacher demonstrates skills correctly or
presents information step by step.
3. Guided training phase, in this phase the teacher plans and provides initial guidance.
4. The feedback phase, which is the phase where the teacher must check whether the
students have succeeded in doing the task well and provide feedback.
5. Independent further training phase, namely the phase where teachers prepare
opportunities for further training, with special attention to application to more
complex situations and everyday life, Ministry of National Education 2005:26.
The next season is Will continue with GBL method
Game-based learning (GBL) is one method for implementing learner-centered
pedagogy in the classroom to engage and motivate students. It is a method of teaching that
balances subject content with game play in a learning context and has well-defined learning
outcomes. It incorporates the use of games for teaching as well as the gamification of the
learning process.
According to Annie Pho (2015) Game Based Learning (GBL) refers to the use and
application of game principles in the learning process to increase user or student engagement.
The motivational psychology in GBL allows students to engage with educational material in
a more fun and dynamic way. Game-based learning not only makes games for students to
play, but also designs learning activities that can gradually introduce concepts, and guide
users towards the ultimate goal.
The Steps of a Digital Game-Based Learning Model
1. Choose a Game According to the Topic
The first step you can take is to choose a topic to be delivered and then choose a
digital game that fits the topic.
2. Explaining the Concept
The next step is to explain the concept of the learning topic that you will convey. By
explaining the concept first, your students will become more focused in playing the game.
3. Explaining the Game Rules
Then you explain the rules contained in the game or you can make the rules together
with your students in class. With rules, your students will learn to be more disciplined in their
actions and be responsible for what they do.
4. Playing Games
Furthermore, your students can play games using the applications that you have
recommended before. Make sure that these activities are appropriate and timely, and that they
are serious about doing them, not just filling their free time. That way, your students can get
the most out of their learning.
5. Summarizing Knowledge
After you finish playing, you give time to all of your students to summarize the
knowledge they gained while playing the digital game. Make sure you check it out, because
then they won't feel relaxed and don't think the game is just a game.
6. Doing Reflection
The last step is for students to reflect on the learning outcomes they have obtained.
With this digital game -based learning model, you can minimize the boredom they often feel
when teaching and learning activities (KBM) are in progress. In addition, you should also
have tips to make learning activities more effective.
