OUTCOMES-BASED COURSE SYLLABUS IN THE NEW NORMAL

Introduction to Philippine Criminal Justice System


First Semester, AY 2023– 2024

PROGRAM GOALS

The BS Criminology graduates are expected to become globally competent, innovative, and socially and ethically responsible. Thus, to
foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability and responsibility while serving their fellowmen, community and country. Moreover, the graduates
are also expected to perform well on their careers in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection and correctional administration. Lastly,
graduates are expected and always encourage to write research and inquiry on the nature, causes treatment or punishment of criminal behavior and
how criminal justice agencies respond to crime, criminals and victims thus, to respect the constitutional rights of all men quality liberty and justice.

INSTITUTIONAL INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Conduct criminological research on crimes, crimes causation, victims and offenders to include deviant behavior.
2. Produce graduates who are equipped with academic, scientific, technological knowledge and skills in preparation for careers in crime prevention,
law enforcement, scientific crime investigation and detection, and correctional administration
3. Provide, opportunity, instruction and guided experience by which the students learn the basic knowledge and acquire the skills essential to the
practice of criminology
4. Foster the values of leadership, integrity, moral, ethical and aesthetic values, accountability and responsibility while serving their fellowmen,
community and country
5. Encourage research and inquiry in the nature, causes, treatment of criminal behavior and how criminal justice agencies respond to crimes,
criminals and victims in consonance with the need of the community
6. Establish linkages and participation in the different law enforcement agencies and the community in the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and other
regulations relative to environment protection and preservation

Course Title : Introduction to Philippine Criminal Justice System

Contact Hours : 3 hours per week (2 hrs lecture / 1 hr lab)


Course Description: This course covers the introduction of the important aspect of the criminal justice system and the related issues. It also includes the topic on the five
pillars of criminal justice system in the Philippines, their main function, roles in the practical administration of justice – law enforcement, the prosecution, the courts, the
corrections and the community. It also covers their respective functional relationships as well as individual roles in the administration of the justice system in the solution of
crimes.

The course includes an introduction in the field of Criminalistics, Investigation, Law and Law Enforcement Administration – the major areas in criminal justice education which are in
accordance with CHED MEMOs and the PRC syllabi.

I. COURSE TITLE: Introduction to Criminal Justice System

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course covers the introduction of the important aspect of the criminal justice system and the related issues. It also includes the
topic on the five pillars of criminal justice system in the Philippines, their main function, roles in the practical administration of justice – law enforcement, the prosecution, the
courts, the corrections and the community. It also covers their respective functional relationships as well as individual roles in the administration of the justice system in the
solution of crimes.

4. Produce graduates who preserve Filipino values, respect culture and traditions, and protect the environment.

5. Instill among graduates the value of being research-oriented.
