MRI study of the lumbosacral spine revealed:

Techniques:
 Variable echo pulse sequences were taken through the lumbosacral spine in different planes.

Findings:
 Partial straightening of normal lumbar lordosis suggesting mild back muscle spasm.
 Lumbar spondylodegenerative changes mainly at L5-S1 level showing marginal end plate
osteophytic lipping, subarticular type II modic degenerative marrow changes and
degenerated intervening discs with reduced height and diminished T2 signal intensity
denoting disc dehydration.
 L4-5: Mild diffuse disc bulge inclined more to the left seen totally effacing the ventral
epidural fat smoothly indenting ventral aspect of the thecal sac and encroaching upon neural
recesses and neural exit foramina more on the left side.
 L5-S1: Diffuse posterior disc bulge osteophyte complex inclined more to the right seen totally
effacing the ventral epidural fat smoothly indenting the ventral aspect of the thecal sac and
encroaching upon neural recesses and neural exit foramina more on the right side.
 The vertebral bodies show normal shape and normal marrow signal intensity.
 Normal conus medullaris and cauda equina roots.
 No evidence of paraspinal soft tissue abnormality could be seen.

Opinion:
 Mild back muscle spasm.
 Lumbar spondylodegenerative changes mainly at lower lumbar levels.
 L4-5 and L5-S1 degenerative disc bulges with neural compromise as described
above.
