surface shield display (SSD). The surface and inner structure of real organ is
called same-intensity reconstruction. The reconstructed 3D images only
display the surface profile of organs and cannot display the inner structure.
Map the CT value of cross sections of the tissues to be displayed to produce
3D effect. The advantage of surface display is to provide more direct space
relationship between the illness and around structure for the physician to have
a better understanding for the overall position and form of the illness.

Click to enter surface shield display operation. The results will be

displayed on the volume image display region.

Figure 4-9 SSD

MinIP (Minimum Intensity Projection Display)

The MinIP records the minimum density value every ray comes across and
projects to generate 2D images. The front and hind structure overlaps with
each other and the 3D images are generated. It is mainly used to display
trachea.

Click to enter MinIP operation. The results will be displayed on the

volume image display region.

The AIP records the average density value of every ray and projects to
generate 2D images with similar effect with X-ray images.

Click to enter AIP operation. The results will be displayed on the

volume image display region.

Figure 4-11 AIP

MIP (Maximum Intensity Projection Display)

The MIP records the maximum density value every ray comes across and
projects to generate 2D images. The front and hind structure overlaps with
each other and the 3D images are generated. This method makes up for the
disadvantage of single angle image of being insufficient in space relationship. It
also reflects small changes in intensity values. MIP has high clinical value
because the image has high resolution and displays 3D structure of blood
vessels and the pathological changes in bronchus, livers and lungs more
clearly.

Click to enter maximum intensity projection operation. The results will

be displayed on the volume image display region.

Caution: Perfusion application program is still on the stage of test.

So it can not be used as the only reference for any final
correct diagnosis.

Caution: Make sure the scan time is not shorter than the contrast
time or the thorough first-pass time of the contrast
particles injected.
The scan interval is not longer than 2 seconds. 1 second
is suggested.
Make sure of a fast contrast-injection speed. For the sake
of the clinical safe, it’s suggested to use 40 cc non-ionic
contrast at the injection-speed of 4~5 ml per second.
In the whole process of scanning, keep the patient head
still. Otherwise, it will lead to the unreliable functional
images.
6.5.1.1 Plan

Reference Vessel:

Generally speaking, the software will automatically create a tMIP image in the
Function Image Area and a curve in the TDC Graphics Area. And users without
rich clinical experience are suggested not to manually re-define the vessel ROI
(cross line plus V) on the tMIP image. Suggest finding the ideal reference
vessel in the area of the superior sagittal simus.

Chapter 7 Dental Planning

7.1 Overview
The Dental Planning application is used to create true-size (life size) film images
of the Mandible and the Maxilla for assisting oral surgeons in planning
implantation of prostheses. The procedure consists of the following steps:
z Defining panoramic views
z Defining sectional planes
z Filming the reference, panoramic and sectional images in true size.
Notes: For true size images, use only the special Dental Planning
film format 2 x 3 with a film size of 14" x 17".
On every film, check the scales on the top and sides of the
images to ensure the accurate size of the image.
Ensure that the filming calibration factor is correctly
calculated and entered into the application before producing
Dental Planning films.

Warning Since the saved images can be printed or filmed in any size,
not just true size, you may get incorrect results if you use a
scale to measure features on a printed output.

7.1.1 Dental scanning hints

The following hints will help you produce the best patient images for the Dental
Planning application:
z Instruct the patient to remove any dentures or partial plates.
z Use a tongue blade or folded gauze pad to separate the teeth. If the patient
does not have teeth, the jaw should also be separated.
z Position the region of interest (maxillary or mandibular) perpendicular to the
table to optimize clinical results.
z When scanning both the maxillary and mandibular areas, it is important to
separate the studies.
z Scanning regions:
- for the maxillary region, start scanning at the maxillary sinuses and
stop scanning at the end of the teeth.
- for the mandibular region, start scanning at the top of the teeth and
continue through the mandible.

7.4.1.1.4 Calibration, filming and printing
7.4.1.1.4.1 Overview
Calibration

Warning Before filming Dental Planning images, make sure your

system is in calibration.
Since the Dental Planning application is intended to produce true-size film images,
calibration of the filming process is very important.
There is a special function in Dental Planning that allows you to apply a

454110019578
Rev.2.7 7-14 Dental Planning
NeuViz Dual
User Manual

“calibration factor” to either reduce or increase the image on the film to true-size.
First, you will measure the scales printed on the film with an actual measuring
scale. If the two scales do not match, you will have to calculate the discrepancy,
and then enter a new calibration factor.

Caution The calibration factor is set at the factor to 1.200. Do not use
this factor unless you have measured the film image and
verified that this value produces the correct size image.
To perform the calibration
1) Load the dental images
2) Print the current images
3) Record the length shown by the ruler of landscape orientation in film as
H1. Record the real length of the ruler of landscape orientation as H2.
4) Record the length shown by the ruler of portrait orientation in film as V1.
Record the real length of the ruler of portrait orientation as V2.
5) Calculate the calibration factor: Factor=(H1/H2+V1/V2)/2
6) Calculate the new calibration factor: NewFactor=OldFactor x Factor. The
OldFactor is the current factor in the system.
7) Replace the OldFactor with the NewFactor.
8) Repeat from step2 to step7 until the real length is equal to that shown in
film.
When to perform the calibration procedure
Calibrate true-size filming:
z if this is the first to use the Dental Planning application
z whenever you measure the scales on the film and find a size error
z whenever the Dental Planning protocol is changed
z after the film format is changed on the imager
z after the imager is serviced
z after a new film printer is installed

Figure 7-20 Film Pair

Two types of filming are available in the Dental Planning application.
One type of filming is called film pair. This means that two dental image sets will
be sent to Master Film at one time:
z an Axial reference image
z corresponding Sectional images (up to 12)
When to perform the Film Pair:
z When you want to film only a portion of the entire plan, with a reference
image directly adjacent to the sectional images you are interested in
z When you need a film for calibration purposes, and do not want to print
multiple film pages.
Print preview

Figure 7-21 Print Preview

The second type of filming is print preview. Use this method when you want to
print a large set of Dental Planning images. The images can be filmed on several
pages.

Print preview allows you to define the layout of the film pages before printing them.
You can configure the film pages with various image types, including axial images,
reference axial images, panoramic images, reference panoramic images.
7.4.1.1.4.2 Film pair procedure
After finishing the Dental Planning procedure (having drawn the planning curves,
set the spacing of the sectional images, and activated the desired measuring
scales on the sections) you are ready to film with Film Pair. (If you want to use
Print Preview, refer to the next procedure in this chapter.).
Click the Film Pair button in the control panel. The display will become formatted
as follows

z The axial image in the upper-left will display 12 sectional lines, centered
on the panoramic curve.
z The panoramic images in the lower-left will indicate the same sectional
lines.
z The corresponding sectional images will display in the lower-right view
port.

The plan Number will revert to 12, since that is the maximum number you can film
in Film Pair. The number can be reduced.
Make adjustments as needed, depending on the planned dental implantation.
For example, you can change the Spacing, move the set of sections to the right or
left around the panoramic curve or rotate the set.
7.4.1.1.4.3Print Preview
The primary use of the Print Preview is to arrange a large number of images onto
a film planning page and send them to a film printer in a single batch.
Notes: Before activating Print Preview, you must complete all
planning procedures, since you cannot make changes
unless you cancel the Print Preview function.
