CHAPTER- 1
Executive summary

The activities that I and my team had performed in the community services are ECO-Friendly
Agricultural Practices and healthy food production. The Activities are of great significance as
they effected the surrounding a lot, it also developed a mindset of healthy food production,
helping people for more planting and more trees in the minds of people who acknowledged by
work.
For that I and my team went to sachivalayam to take permission from seceratriat to conduct
survey on environment protection. Later on we started the survey field to field to know about the
organic farming and it’s related issues.

CHAPTER-2
Overview of the community

ORGANIC FARMING system of crop cultivation that uses biological methods of fertilization
and pest control as substitutes for chemical fertilizers and pesticides which are regarded by
supporters of organic methods as harmful to health and the environment and unneccessary for
successful cultivation. Through organic farming foods of higher nutritional value are produced,
and also it increases food diversity. This organic farming also helps farmers to get nutritional
food, which increase our life time. This is environment eco friendly. It promotes sustainable
development. Produces healthy and tasty food. When compared to other types of farming
methods.

HISTORY OF ORGANIC FARMING

The farming method changed significantly after the 2nd world war with new research that showed
how certain chemicals were capable of killing insects. Paul miller developed DDT in 1939 and
the new era of using a new class of insecticides began.
With increased usage of chemicals and pesticides in farming the pioneers of the early organic
movements started looking into new alternative ways to the heating problems of soil depletion,
low food quality, and livestock feed, which was followed by the rural poverty. Erosion and decline
of crop varieties, to name a few.
They son realised that if we wanted to solve those problems, our focus should turn to improving
the soils health. Since organic farming is time consuming. Organically grown produce tends to
be expensive. Organic produce formerly accounted for a minus scale portion of total american
farm output, but it has seen a huge proportional increases in scales in recent years.

SOME TYPES OF ORGANIC FARMING:

PERMACULTURE : Permaculture is an approach to land management and
settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural
ecosystems. It includes a set of design principles derived using whole-systems
thinking. It applies these principles in fields such as regenerative agriculture, town
planning, rewilding, and community resilience .
RANCHING: A ranch is an area of land, including various structures, given
primarily to ranching, the practice of raising grazing livestock such as cattle and
sheep. It is a subtype of farm. These terms are most often applied to livestock
raising operations.
HYDROPONICS: Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants using a water-
based nutrient solution rather than soil, and can include an aggregate substrate, or
growing media, such as vermiculite, coconut coir, or perlite.

DRYLAND FARMING: The name “dryland farming” might suggest that this means
farming without water, but this is not exactly the case. Dryland farming, also
known as “dry farming” or “dryland agriculture,” means that farmers do not use
irrigation to supply crops with water. Instead, this practice relies upon soil
moisture, ground water, and the occasional rainfall. Dry farming is not generally
meant to afford farmers the same high yields that occur during the normal
growing season. However, it does help employ sustainable and Regenarative
agriculture practices, like keeping the soil rooted year round.

TECHNIQUES IN ORGANIC FARMING:

MULCHING: Mulching is the process or practice of covering the soil/ground to make more
favourable conditions for plant growth, development and efficient crop production. Mulch
technically meant of ‘covering soil’.

MULCHING

BIO FERTILIZER: Biofertilizers are biological preparations of efficient

microorganisms that promote plant growth by improving nutrient
acquisition. They enhance soil productivity by fixing atmospheric
nitrogen, solubilizing soil phosphorus, and stimulating plant growth.

VERMICOMPOST: Vermicomposting is a natural process whereby earthworms

convert waste material with rigid structures into compost. The compost
produced in this green process is traditionally and popularly used as a natural
fertilizer for enhancing plant growth.

VERMICOMPOST
SEEDTREATMENTS: Seed treatment refers to the application of fungicide,
insecticide, or a combination of both, to seeds so as to disinfect and disinfect them
from seed-borne or soil-borne pathogenic organisms and storage insects. It also
refers to the subjecting of seeds to solar energy exposure, immersion in conditioned
water, etc.
