1. PURPOSE:

This Method Statement outlines the operations for works related to conduit installation which
include uPVC, EMT and RGS conduit and accessories for the project MAIN UTILITIES AND
PUBLIC REALM.
Ensure that all concerned persons are familiar with sequence of activities, utilities of resources,
and execution of the works in compliance with applicable standards, safety and quality
procedures environmental protection to meet the requirements of the company and the owner.
Details out the steps to be taken to meet the specific requirements for the scope of work and
project specifications.

2. SCOPE OF WORK:

All activities will be carried out in accordance with the contract details and in full compliance to
scope of work & project specifications. All work in the right-of-way of the standards and
specifications will be done in compliance with requirements issued by authorities.
The scope of this method statement includes:

 Installation of uPVC conduits for non-metallic applications.


 Installation of EMT conduits for general electrical wiring.
 Installation of RGS conduits for areas requiring heavy-duty protection.

4. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS:


Tools & materials receiving inspection shall be performed when the materials are delivered at
site.
 uPVC, E M T & RGS conduits.
 Hydraulic Bender Set for RGS conduit.
 Conduit threading machine.
 Pipe bender for (EMT).
 Conduit supports and clumps.
 Drill machine & appropriate bits.
 Marking tools.
 Measuring Tape
 Cutting tools (hacksaw, pipe cutter, knife, plier).
 Binding wire.
 Hand tool set.

5. RESPOSIBILITIES:

5.1 Project Manager:


The project manager shall be the overall responsible for organizing resources to perform
construction activities as per project specification in compliance with the quality, schedule and
safety requirements.

5.2 Construction Manager:


It is the responsibility of construction manager that construction activities are executed
according to the relevant project specifications in compliance with quality, schedule and safety.

5.3 Safety Manager:

The responsibilities and duties of the Safety Manager in ensuring a safe working environment
on the project site. The Safety Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the implementation
of safety protocols and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

5.4 Electrical Engineer:

Engineers shall monitor and manage all activities as per IFC/ Shop drawings and project
specifications under safe conditions and following the contractor site safety plan.

5.5 Supervisor:

He will ensure that:


a. Related to work permit formalities have been correctly addressed, where required.
b. Working team have a proper training for the relevant task.
c. All of the relevant hazards have been identified.
d. They are using the correct equipment and personal protective equipment's.
e. Responsible for providing the required PPEs to his crew for the job.

5.6 QC Inspector:

QC Inspector shall make sure the following items and carry out all field inspections under project
specification related to the Quality Control Services:
a. He will ensure the material shall conform to project specification and work should be carried
out as per latest revision of IFC/Shop drawings.
b. He will coordinate with the site representative for the required inspections as per approved
ITP.
c. He will monitor the quality of works and in conformance with the IFC drawing as per
approved checklist.
d. He will keep records of all inspections and testing related to the activity.

6. INSTALLATION:
General Procedure for conduit installation is given below after which area wise details are
provided for conduit installation in slabs, walls and exposed areas.

6.1 Exposed EMT & RGS Conduit Installation on Walls and Ceiling:

B. Use updated approved IFC and shop drawing for conduit installation works:
a. EMT & RGS conduit layout complete with section details
b. MEP coordination drawing complete with section details.
c. Reflected ceiling drawing and other Architectural Drawings affected.
C. Check Procedure for conduit installation and project specification JCD400-GEN1-DDD-
DAR-PMC-SPC-00001-01, Section 260533.
D. Check the route of EMT & RGS conduit to make sure that it is free from debris and
obstruction of any other activities.
E. Mark the reference points on ceiling, wall or column as per respected approved drawings.
F. If there is any deviation between drawings and site condition, it must be reported to the site
responsible person and asking for solution immediately.
G. Supports fabrication and installation for the conduit:
a. Straighten out the channel steel or the steel angle before cutting it.
b. Cutting the c-channel as per the actual condition.
H. Support and conduit installation:
a. Transporting the supports to site with a limited speed and placing in alignment.
b. Install the support as per the typical detail drawings. The distance between two
supports shall be in accordance with the project specification.
c. Supports: Use approved clamps, hangers or clips fastened by machine screws to
expansion sleeves in inserts or to lead anchors.
d. Spacing of clamps or clips for supporting steel conduits shall not be greater than:

e. Bends and Fittings: Firmly fasten conduit at each side of bends and within 900 mm of
each outlet box, junction box, cabinet or fitting.

I. Conduit runs between outlet and outlet, fitting and fitting or outlet and fitting shall not
contain more than the equivalent of 2 quarter bends (180-degree total).
J. Provide pull/junction boxes on straight runs every 12 m, unless otherwise proposed by the
Contractor and approved by the Employer’s Representative.
K. Cut ends shall be reamed to remove burrs and sharp edges.
L. Conduit termination in sheet metal enclosures shall be fastened by locknuts, and terminate
with bushing. Install locknuts inside and outside enclosures.
M. Identify the circuit start point and end points to mark the conduit route as per Shop/ IFC
drawings.
N. Make hole in wall/concrete ceiling using drill machine for Rawal plug, fix Rawal plug, inside
hole and then fix base of saddle by screw.
O. Use recommended and approved EMT & RGS conduit and bends as per site condition and
approved shop drawings.
P. Install conduit and all accessories as per approved shop drawing route and tight with saddle
and screw make joints using threaded fittings.
Q. Approved clamps to be used for the supports. Electrical support materials shall as per
sec .260500 Basic Electrical Materials and Methods.
R. Conduits on wall are to be run neatly, horizontally or vertically.
S. Conduit are to be used for exposed installations over false ceilings when the false ceiling
is used as return plenum.
T. Installation of RGS conduit shall be checked by QC inspector as per drawings and quality
of installation before offering JCDC PMT & JCDC PID for inspection.
U. All works on site will be as per Standard Electrical specifications and as per applicable
wiring regulation.

6.2 uPVC conduit & GI box Installation in Concrete Slab and Walls:

A. Ensure that all civil activities were done on concrete slab and wall before
starting the conduit installation.
B. Arrange IFC and Shop drawings of the area of installation to find out the exact route of
conduit installation.
C. First mark the wall location for lower floor in the slab as per latest MEP layout. So, the it
will be easy to locate the drops for information outlet and any other drops for other services.
D. Mark the opening size in rooms and other places as per approved shops and IFC Drawings.

E. Mark each point on the slab and fix as per standard installation.
F. Avoid overlapping if necessary and provide standard separation between the conduits.
G. Only uPVC conduits 8061-8062 shall be used for installation in concrete slab and precast
walls. Back boxes shall be filled up by thermocol to avoid passing concrete inside pipe.
H. Supports: Use approved clamps, hangers or clips fastened by machine screws to
expansion sleeves in inserts or to lead anchors.
I. Spacing of clamps or clips for supporting PVC conduits shall not be greater than:

J. Conduit runs between outlet and outlet, fitting and fitting or outlet and fitting shall not

M. Bends and Fittings: Firmly fasten conduit at each side of bends and within 900 mm of each
outlet box, junction box, cabinet or fitting.
N. After completing the work tight, the conduit with binding wire and mark the identification
for the raised pipe in the slab and closing the end of the conduit with the help of masking
tape or end caps.
O. Site engineer & QC inspector Site should check the proper size of conduit and boxes and
ensure that the work is completes as per approved shop drawings.
P. Before concrete pouring installation will be inspected and approved from JCDPMT & JCD
PID.
Q. During concrete pouring, keep electrical foremen on site to take care of conduit so as to
avoid any damage by others or dislocation of joints.
R. Ensure the box size and accordingly cut a bit larger size of box in marked place of wall
with sufficient depth.
S. Start cutting the marked place for conduit run with the help of grinder and chip with hammer
after cutting.

T. Fix the GI Metal box of appropriate size and level with the help of spirit level, the
bottom portion of box should match the marked level as per approved IFC & Shop
Drawings.
U. Apply cement filler to fix the box properly and leave for a day to settle, insert the
required lengths of conduits on their paths and connect the dropped to outlet.
V. Make sure the conduits are not visible from outside their route which could lead t o
improper plastering.
W. Before the plastering work, issue RFI to JCDPMT & JCDPID.

7. SAFETY PRECAUTION:

A. Site safety make sure that activities shall be carried out under approved method of
statement & Risk assessment.
B. Inspection of proper certifications and equipment prior to start the work.
C. Site safety make sure the provision of safe access for work area and will carry the
inspections. Make sure the provision of flagman/banks man to assist the operator and warn
people for movement of any equipment.
D. All signals, signs and barricades will not be removed from site until work completion.
E. He will produce the Job Risk Assessment prior to work commencement and will identify the
hazards before start of activity.
F. Inspection on daily base for ladder or mobile scaffolding.
G. He will make sure the inspection of tool and equipment’s daily basis.
H. Ensure that all persons should be competent for the work they undertake, Training, along
with knowledge, experience and skill, helps develop such competence. However,
competence may necessarily include medical fitness and physical / mental aptitude for the
activity.

I. Permit to Work (PTW):

a. Permit to work (PTW) system shall be implemented to control the activities in safe
manner for the protection of all personnel, assets and environment.
b. Describe the nature of work, involved tools and equipment, work location details, start
date and time in the work permit. Person in-charge of work site & Job performers shall

be fully aware of activities, regulations and the Permits shall be kept available at all
times nearby the work area.

J. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

a. The contractor shall provide personal protective equipment as required for different
operations. (Safety shoes, Gloves, Safety glass clear and black, Helmet, Safety
harness).
b. All PPEs to be used by construction personnel shall be in good quality and condition.

K. Tool Box Talk (TBT):

a. Prior to start, the task Engineer along with the Foreman and the Safety officer shall
conduct toolbox. They have to present in detail the task, potential risk, safe activity
implementation and the preventive control measures, PPE requirements, safe work
procedures, HSE regulations and conditions to prevent incident. All concerned
workers shall attend toolbox talk and the related records shall be maintained.

8. INSPECTION AND TESTING:

A. In process works shall be monitored for quality of workmanship and installation against
approve IFC or shop drawing by the QC inspector.
B. All works shall be inspected for conformance to specification.
C. The inspection formats shall be used in accordance with JCDC or international Standards.

9. EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURE & TEAM:


An emergency response procedure is critical for ensuring safety and preparedness during the
construction phase of a project.

A. Emergency types & responses.

a. Fire:
Procedures for evacuation, use of fire extinguishers, and fire alarms.

b. Medical Emergencies:
First aid procedures, location of medical kits, and protocols for calling medical services.

c. Hazardous Material Spills:


Prevent the spread of dusts and vapors.
Control the spread of the liquid.
Dispose of the wastes.
Decontaminate the area and affected equipment.

B. Evacuation Procedures:
a. Preparation

 Create an Evacuation Plan:

Develop a clear and detailed plan that outlines the evacuation routes, assembly
points, and responsibilities of individuals.

 Train Personnel:

Regularly train employees or household members on the evacuation plan and


procedures.

 Conduct Drills:

Perform regular evacuation drills to ensure everyone is familiar with the process
and can execute it efficiently.

b. Emergency Notification

 Alert Systems:

Use alarms, public address systems, or other communication tools to notify


everyone of the need to evacuate.

 Clear Instructions:

Provide clear and concise instructions on what actions to take.

c. Evacuation Process

 Follow Designated Routes:

Evacuate through pre-determined routes to avoid confusion and ensure a swift exit.

 Assist Those in Need:

Help individuals who may need assistance, such as the elderly, disabled, or young
children.

 Avoid Elevators:

Use stairs instead of elevators during emergencies, especially in the case of a fire.

d. Assembly and Accountability

 Assembly Points:

Go to the designated assembly points away from the building or danger zone.

 Account for Everyone:

Perform a headcount or use a checklist to ensure everyone has safely evacuated.

e. Post-Evacuation Procedures

 Wait for Instructions:

Remain at the assembly point and wait for further instructions from emergency
personnel.

 Do Not Re-enter:

Do not re-enter the building until it has been declared safe by the appropriate
authorities.

f. Review and Improve

 Debrief:

After the evacuation, conduct a debrief to discuss what went well and identify areas
for improvement.

 Update Plans:

Revise the evacuation plan based on feedback and new information.

g. Tips for Effective Evacuation Procedures

 Clear Signage:

Ensure all evacuation routes and exits are clearly marked with visible signs.

 Accessible Routes:

Make sure evacuation routes are accessible to everyone, including those with
disabilities.

 Emergency Kits:

Keep emergency kits with essentials such as first aid supplies, flashlights, and
water at accessible locations.

 Communication Plan:

Have a communication plan to keep in touch with everyone during and after the
evacuation.

Having a well-thought-out and practiced evacuation plan can save lives and reduce
the chaos during an emergency. Regular reviews and updates to the plan ensure it
remains effective and relevant.
