Passage 2

Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
Long ago in China, there lived a king and a queen. They were very
pleased when their first son was born. They called the boy Zhizong. "Now I
have a son to rule over my kingdom after I die," the king said.
In another incident, Zhizong was playing in the royal garden with his
cousin, Weifan, when a flock of wild swans flew overhead. Weifan quickly
picked up his bow and took aim at the birds. The arrow hit one of the swans
directly on its great white wing. The swan could not fly on any more and it fell
to the ground among the roses in the garden. There it lay quiet and still with
its great white wing spotted with blood. The arrow was still embedded in its
wing.
Zhizong ran to the wounded bird. The swan was frightened so it snapped
its beak and flapped its uninjured wing. Zhizong did not mind. He gently lifted
the swan onto his lap and stroked it lightly with his left hand while with his
right hand, he carefully pulled out the arrow. He poured honey onto the wound
and covered it with makeshift bandages of leaves to keep it cool.
