ESP
EnviTec’s electrostatic precipitators conform to
UL 867 and include two parts: the charging and
collecting sections.

In the charging section, the incoming smoke,

grease, dust, mist, and other particulates pass by
tungsten ionizer wires which impart a positive
electrical charge to these contaminants. The pos-
itively charged contaminants are then drawn
through the collection section which contains a
secondary electrical field with negatively charged
aluminum plates. Since opposite charges attract,
the positively charged contaminants collect on
the negatively charged aluminum plates, remov-
ing them from the airstream.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
ESP Section
The ESP section can be either manual wash
(ENVICLEANTM) or self-cleaning (ENVIWASHTM).

A washable metal mesh pre-filter is included to

remove large grease and oil particles before
the air enters the ESP.

The ENVICLEANTM ESP offers the same high

efficiency performance as the ENVIWASHTM
electrostatic cleaner but without the self-wash
feature.

The ENVIWASHTM ESP features either a fixed

wash system that sprays the collector cells
from the top with fixed spray nozzles (EWF Se-
ries) or a dynamic wash system that uses multi
jet wash manifolds in both the front and rear of
the electronic collector cells to insure complete
coverage and maximum wash results (EWO Se-
ries). The wash sequence can be operated
through the BMS or through an optional PLC or
sequence controller wash control panel. Units
are available in single pass and double pass
configurations and can be washed with hot wa-
ter or with hot water and detergent, which is
much more effective in removing oil and
Filter Section grease.

The exhaust air from the ESP section enters

the Filter section, which consists of either 1
or a series of 2 filters designed to achieve up
to 99% (ASHRAE) particulate free air for ex-
cellent grease and smoke control.

PRE-FILTER - The UL Class 1 disposable

pleated 4” deep Pre-Filter is a MERV 8 (G4)
filter - 30%-40% dust spot efficiency based on
3.0 to 10.0 μm particles when tested in ac-
cordance with ASHRAE 52.2-2017.

SAFETY FILTER - The UL Class 1 disposable

20/21” deep Bag Filter is a MERV 14 (F8) filter
- 90%-95% dust spot efficiency based on 3.0
to 10.0 μm particles when tested in accord-
ance with ASHRAE 52.2-2017.

An optional differential pressure switch cabi-

net is located on the access side of the Filter
Module to monitor clean/dirty filter status and
filter missing condition.

9
EAPU ECOLOGY UNIT
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Odor Neutralization Module
The exhaust air is then drawn from the filter section
through the Odor Reducing Section, which uses ei-
ther EnviTec’s odor neutralization solution or media.
Odor Neutralizer Solution
The atomized particle spray mist permeates the ex-
haust air, attacks and neutralizes airborne odor par-
ticulates and the bacteria that cause odors. The odor
neutralization solution effectively reduces unwanted
organic odors. The solution was exclusively devel-
oped for application to the kitchen exhaust air
stream, and is specifically formulated to break down
organic odors produced from commercial cooking.

Odor spray can be activated on a continuous cycle

during operation or an intermittent time cycle to best
suit the cooking operation.
Media
Media trays arranged in a V-bank configuration are
used to absorb odor from the air stream. Media is
available as activated carbon, a 50-50 blend of acti-
vated carbon and potassium permanganate impreg-
nated activated alumina or pure impregnated activat-
ed alumina. Average pressure drop through the me-
dia is 1” (250) and does not change.

Exhaust Fan Section - Housed Fan

The exhaust air then travels through the Exhaust Fan
Section, which is double wall construction with
sound insulation. The exhaust fan is double width,
double inlet Class 1 or 2 type with backward inclined
type blades for the EAPU. It features non-overloading
horsepower characteristics, smooth airflow design,
optional high temperature rated design and includes
the following:
• Base frame mounted on spring isolators.
• TEFC High Efficiency (IE2) Motor, Class F insulation with
a service factor of 1.1.
• An optional combination motor starter and fused discon-
nect switch can be mounted on the access side of the
Fan Section and factory prewired to the motor.
• Inlet cones are designed for smooth acceleration of air-
flow into the wheel with clearances designed to maintain
efficiency and reduce noise.
• Complete assembly is statically and dynamically bal-
anced on precision electronic balancing machines.
The Exhaust Fan Section may be located immediately
following the Filter and Odor Neutralization Sections,

14
ESP UNIT
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
EnviTec’s ENVICLEANTM and ENVIWASHTM
dual-stage electrostatic precipitators (ESP’s)
conform to UL 867 and include two parts: the
charging and the collecting sections. In the
charging section, the incoming smoke, dust,
grease, mist, and other particulates pass by
ionizer wires which impart a positive electri-
cal charge to these contaminants. The posi-
tively charged contaminants are then drawn
through the collection section which contains
a secondary electrical field with negatively
charged plates. Since opposite charges at-
tract, the positively charged contaminants
collect on the negatively charged aluminum
plates, removing them from the airstream.

Ionizing wires are made from tungsten. Tung-

sten has the lowest coefficient of thermal ex-
pansion of any pure metal. The low thermal
expansion, high melting point and tensile
strength of tungsten make it one the hardest
materials known. This results in extremely
strong ionizing wires, which are superior to
spike type electrodes. Spike type electrodes
only impart the electrical charge at the spike,
which results in incomplete ionization and
spike wear. Tungsten ionizing wires, on the
other hand, impart a uniform electrical charge
along the whole length of the wire and do not
wear.

A washable metal mesh pre-filter is used to

remove large particles. In manual wash
(ENVICLEANTM) ESP’s particles that fall from
the negatively charged collection plates fall
into a removable tray located at the bottom of
the ESP unit. In self-cleaning (ENVIWASHTM)
ESP’s a flanged drain connection is located at
the bottom rear of the unit.

18
ESP UNIT
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
ENVIWASHTM
The ENVIWASHTM ESP features a fixed wash system that sprays the collector cells from the top
with fixed spray nozzles (EWF Series) or a dynamic wash system that uses oscillating multi jet
wash manifolds in both the front and rear of the electronic collector cells to insure complete cov-
erage and maximum wash results (EWO Series). The wash sequence can be operated through
the BMS or through an optional PLC or sequence controller control panel, which is factory pro-
grammed to control wash and rinse cycles. Units are available in single pass and double pass
configurations and can be washed with hot water or with hot water and detergent, which is much
more effective in removing oil and grease. Complete packages for the EW electronic air cleaners
are available that include detergent tanks and detergent (the required hot water for washing and
rinsing must be 60oC to 70oC at a minimum pressure of 40 psig/276 kpa). The ENVIWASHTM Series
offers impressive restaurant kitchen exhaust performance with a comparably lower price than
self-cleaning electrostatic air cleaners offered by others.

ESP UNIT
FEATURES
UV Module

The EnviTec UV module produces ultraviolet

light with a wavelength of 254 and 187 nm.
The UV wavelength oxidizes the chemicals
and odors present in commercial cooking
hood exhaust into odorless inoffensive by-
products. The system includes U shaped UV
lamps perpendicular to the airflow.

Media Module (Odor Removal)

Activated carbon is used to absorb odor com-

pounds from the air stream. Also available is a 50-
50 blend of activated carbon and potassium per-
manganate impregnated alumina or 100% impreg-
nated alumina as absorption media alternatives.
Air flows through the media that is housed in re-
fillable trays arranged in a V-bank configuration.
A differential pressure gauge is included. The car-
bon to airflow ratio is 50 kg/1000 l/s.

Ozone Generator

The EV5 is the largest of EnviTec’s EV Series

of Ozone Genrators. It is capable of producing
up to ~5 grams/hour of ozone under normal
operating conditions. The EV5 relatively com-
pact size, high output, and self contained feed
gas supply make it an ideal choice for congest-
ed install sites. It is an effective and efficient
odor removal unit.

EXCELAIR METALLIC

฀฀ Metal series for Heavy duty & Coarse filter appli

cations.

฀฀ Suitable for HVAC systems & kitchen extract units.

฀฀ Washable filters.

฀฀ High dust holding capacity

฀฀ Easy to install & maintain

EXCELAIR METALLIC filters are high velocity washable type permanent air filters suitable for HVAC
and Grease filtration applications. The media used is pleated layers of 14 screen aluminium / SS mesh
arranged in multi layers and encased in an aluminium or galvanized steel frame. An additional expanded
metal grid on upstream and downstream sides provides media support and strength to the filter. These
filters offers very low resistance to the airflow. Complete stainless steel construction is also available as
an option.

Construction:
EXCELAIR Metallic filters are washable metal series filters made up of multi pleated metal layers of wires,
encased in metal frames. The metal media reinforce with rigid expanded mesh. The drain holes will help
the dust, oil/grease to remove from the filter automatically. The metal media are available in Aluminum,
Galvanized Iron & Stainless steel construction.
The rigid construction of metal series filters shall ensure the performance in Heavy duty applications too.
Support Grids are available at air entry side & air exit side, upon special request.

Applications:
Metallic filters are best for Heavy duty filtration purpose, Industrial machine chip removal applications
& Commercial applications. Due to high dust holding capacity, the filters are suitable for Oil / Kitchen
grease filter applications. The filters are suitable for high moisture conditions also.

The filters are easy to install & clean. The filter can be washed with detergent and water or can be
cleaned with compressed air.

BDB Series
DOUBLE INLET CENTRIFUGAL FAN with Backward Wheels

Kruger Ventilation Industries certifies that the BDB

series shown herein is licensed to bear the AMCA
Seal. The ratings shown are based on tests and
procedures performed in accordance with AMCA
publication 211 and AMCA publication 311 and comply
with the requirements of the AMCA Certified Ratings
Program.

Dynamic Pressure
Both dynamic pressure and outlet air velocity values shown on each graph are calculated base on the full discharge area, i.e.
ducted outlet condition.
With free outlet condition the velocity pressure is higher. To determine this new value multiply the velocity pressure of
the ducted outlet obtained from the fan curve by the following correction factor “K”.

K = 1.67
Fan performance calculated with this correction factor is not licensed by AMCA.

Performance
The performance data shown on each graph is derived from tests conducted in accordance to AMCA Standard 210 –
Fig 12 – installation type B (free inlet and ducted outlet condition).
Ratings refer to the standard air density with the total pressure as a function of the air volume, using logarithmic scale.
It is essential that the same installation type and test standards are used at all times when comparing fan performance.

Noise
The noise levels shown on each graph refer to the "A-weighted" sound power values and the data on the inlet side
has been measured in accordance with AMCA Standard 300 diag. 2 - configuration "B". The noise levels of fans are
determined as follow :

Sound power level - ("A" scale): Lw (A) as catalogue

Octave band spectrum: Lw = Lw(A) + Lw rel. dB [refer to Kruger for more details]
Sound pressure level:

a) free field
Lp(A) = Lw(A) - (20log10d) -11

b) room conditions
Lp(A) = Lw(A) - (20log10d) -8
where d = distance from fan (m)

BDB Series

Performance

The performance data shown on each diagram is derived from tests

conducted in accordance to AMCA Standard 210- Fig 12- Installation type
B (free inlet and duct outlet condition).

Ratings refer to standard air density with the total pressure as a function
of the air volume, using logarithmic scale.
It is essential that the same installation type and test standards are used
at all time when comparing fan performance.

According to AMCA 205, BDB series can be classify as FEG 85~90 based
on fan peak efficiency. The following is the explanation of FEG
classification:

1. Fan size is the impeller diameter in mm.

2. The fan peak efficiency shall be calculated from the fan (total)
pressure.
3. If this method is used for a direct driven fan, the fan efficiency is the
impeller efficiency.
4. The FEG label for a given fan size is assigned when the fan peak
efficiency is equal to or lower than the efficiency at the grade upper
limit, and higher than the efficiency at the grade upper limit of the
next lower grade for the fan size.
5. For any fan sizes larger than 1016 mm, the values of the grade upper
limits are the same as for a size of 1016 mm.
6. No labels are considered for the fans with the fan peak total
efficiency below FEG 50.
7. The values of efficiencies are calculated for fan sizes in the preferred
R40 Series.
8. Not all available fan sizes are shown.
