Prescription principles
ULP 3rd assignment
Starting date: May 19th – End date: June 3rd (From week 12 to end of 13)
Expected feedback date: June 14th
Teacher: Nicolás Muñoz

This assignment builds on the 2 previous ones and aims to give you the tools to clearly communicate a full
prescription for an ULP case in 2 variations, body powered, and external body powered upper limb
prosthesis.

Learning objectives:
Upon completion of this assignment, students will be able to:
 Effectively communicate the prescription of body powered and external body powered upper
limb prosthesis.
 Apply the theoretical and practical information of the ULP course.
 Reflect on the function and control of ULP components (Sockets and componentry) by providing
feedback to a colleague´s work.
 Provide constructive feedback: Students will offer constructive feedback to their peers, analysing
both strong aspects and areas for improvement in their colleagues' work.

Instructions
In this individual assignment, you are asked to create a short 5- to 10-minute video presentation where
you prescribe a TR myoelectric system and a TH body powered prosthesis on a virtual case (if you have
a real case you can use the information for this assignment).

Your assignment needs to include:


 Clinical relevant information: All the relevant information needed including amputation level,
cause of amputation, skin status, etc. Recall what you learned during the PAGA subject
 Service user needs and wishes: All factors affecting functionality, including the patient's specific
needs at work or in daily activities
 Type of socket, and components used: Defining the biomechanical benefits or functions for the
given case. Include a picture of the socket type and components used as well as including
alternatives in case if there are any.
 Justify your prescription based on evidence: give your reasons of your decision-making progress.

1. Use slides for your visuals: You can use PPT, Canva or any other presentation software you like
2. Use ScreenPal or any other tool to make your video presentation. It will help you to record your
screen, audio and video
3. Upload your video case presentation on your OneDrive folder and get a public shareable link
4. Share your link on the assigned forum for this assignment
5. Comment on at least 1 colleague: Provide constructive feedback the work of a colleague. Your
comment needs to be objective and should mention both a strong aspect and an area you
consider needs improvement. The order of comments is as following:

 You are encouraged to use internet sources for the prescription. Just make sure to mention from
where you got the information (add it in the bibliography)
 Use pictures or drawings to support your message
 Assume that there are no economic restrictions in your case.
 Summarize and provide only essential information, find the balance between too little and too
much detail (stay on the time limits of the assignment)
