Spanish/English Translator
Position Title: Spanish/English Translator

The vision of this position:

This position will be a key player for the Support Coordination and Quality Enhancement team. Our
vision for the Spanish/English translator is as follows:

 Improve communication and support for individuals and families that do not speak English.

In this role you will:

 Fluently write and speak both Spanish and English

 Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information

 Listen to speakers' statements to determine meanings and prepare translations

 Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being
made, ask questions and follow up with the family when appropriate
 Provide assistance to agency employees in building relationships with individuals and
families through translation
 Attend meetings/phone calls with agency employees and provide real-time translation for
Spanish-speaking individuals and families. Provide translation support at the place of
service in home and community settings
 Identify and report conflicts that are related to the meaning of words, concepts, and
practices that are related to language barriers
 Report any gaps in services to the supervisor

 Learn and understand basic developmental disability support terminology

 Educate and network with community members to enhance their knowledge about the
position
 Work with Supervisor to provide the agency with general cultural competency training
related to the Spanish-speaking culture
 Follow all Progressive Community Services’ policies and procedures

 Utilize Microsoft, Outlook, Zoom, and Teams platforms to successfully remote work

Successful candidates will possess:

 High school diploma or equivalent required

 Must be bilingual in both Spanish and English, with a strong desire to support people with
effective communication.
 Preference for more than one Spanish dialect.

 Must have at least 6 months of experience providing translation support.
