Assam's Purnima Devi Barman Receives 'Green Oscar' Whitley Gold Award 2024
Dr. Purnima Devi Barman received the GBP 100,000 Whitley Gold Award from the Whitley Fund
for Nature (WFN) at a ceremony in London, hosted by the Royal Geographical Society.
The award recognizes her conservation work for the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork and its wet-
land habitat in Assam.
Additionally, the Whitley Awards honored six other grassroots conservationists from various countries
for their locally-driven initiatives addressing global biodiversity and climate challenges.
India will debut "Bharat Parv" at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, showcasing creative oppor-
tunities.
It's the first time, aiming to engage with global film industry leaders. The event will also unveil
the poster and trailer for the 55th India International Film Festival in Goa.
Dr Soumya Swaminathan to be awarded honourary doctorate by Canada’s McGill
University
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, formerly WHO's Chief Scientist, is among the 10 distinguished individ-
uals receiving honorary degrees from McGill University in Spring 2024.
She joined WHO in 2017 as Deputy Director General and served as Chief Scientist until late 2022,
navigating the Covid-19 pandemic.
International Booker Prize 2024 goes to Kairos, a romance amid the fall of the Berlin Wall
German author Jenny Erpenbeck and translator Michael Hofmann clinched the International Booker
Prize for fiction with "Kairos," capturing a complex love story set in East Germany's twilight years.
The prize, awarded yearly for outstanding translated fiction, originated in 2005 as the Man Booker
International Prize, initially celebrating a body of work without language restrictions.

REC Wins Innovative Technology Development Award:
REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, received
the 'Innovative Technology Development Award' at the IIT Madras CSR Summit.
The award was in acknowledgment of REC's installation of a 2 MW rooftop solar plant at IIT Madras.
REC has previously been honored with awards such as the Global CSR Leadership Awards in 2023 and
the PSE Excellence Award for CSR in 2023.
