Travel for LiFE

Travel for LiFE Program

i. Travel for LiFE (TFL), a program for tourism sector under


Mission LiFE, has been envisaged to create awareness
about sustainable tourism and to nudge the tourists and
tourism businesses to adopt sustainable practices
synchronous with nature.

ii. The program aims to create mindful and deliberate


utilization of resources by the stakeholders in the
tourism value chain.

To encourage tourism businesses, destinations and


other ecosystem players to adopt sustainable
practices and commit to the TFL program, the
Ministry of Tourism has designed Sign Up for TFL.
1. Travel for LiFE Signed Up

Signing up for TFL is the first step in transitioning to a


tourism business that demonstrates effective, sustainable
management, maximizes socio-economic benefits to local
communities and maximizes cultural and historical
heritage and environmental benefits.

TFL Signed up currently LIVE on the Nidhi+ portal.


Travel for LiFE Certification

i. Following the global endorsement of the TFL program in the


New Delhi Leader’s Declaration, the STCI certification is now
rebranded as Travel for LiFE certification - powered by STCI.

ii. Presently, TFL certification is available for Destinations,


Accommodations and Tour operators to measure the level
of adoption of sustainable tourism practices by these
entities.

iii. The certification will be available in the following three


categories:
a) Travel for LiFE Bronze
b) Travel for LiFE Silver
c) Travel for LiFE Gold
Travel for LiFE Certification Benefits

(i) The Ministry of Tourism will provide national and international visibility and recognition to sustainable destinations.

(ii) The certification will standardize sustainable tourism practices.

(iii) The certification will aid in developing an inclusive, sustainable tourism action plan for Destinations

(iv) The certification will ensure a better experience for tourists with a deeper connection with the destination

(v) The certification will serve as a business guiding tool.

(vi) The certification will provide a competitive advantage regarding business excellence and commitment to sustainability.

(vii)The certification will aid in establishing a cooperative relationship with the local community.

Save Energy (i) I/We will reduce energy consumption and increase the use of
renewable energy sources
(i) I/We will recommend employees and tourist to use low impact
transportation
Save Water (i) I/We will reduce overall water consumption
(i) I/We will practice rainwater harvesting wherever possible
Say No To Single Use (i) I/We will replace all single-use plastic with reusable alternatives
Plastic (i) I/We will opt for biodegradable accessories
Reduce Waste (i) I/We will reduce overall waste production
(i) I/We will reuse the waste wherever possible
Empower local (i) I/We will keep my employees informed about sustainable
businesses and management practices
communities (i) I/We will employ residents, even in management positions, wherever
possible
Respect local culture (i) I/We will inform tourists about the natural environment, customs,
and heritage local culture, cultural heritage, and acceptable behaviour at such sites
(i) I/We will not sell, trade or display historical and archaeological
artefacts except as permitted by law
Consume local foods (i) I/We will purchase from local eco-friendly suppliers and producers
(i) I/We will offer seasonal and local food to tourists
Conserve natural (i) I/We will follow practices to reduce pollution from noise, light, air and
heritage soil contaminants
(i) I/We will support biodiversity conservation, including natural
protected areas and areas of high biodiversity value

For Travel for LiFE Signed Up, Destinations need to be registered under the
NiDHi Plus portal

STEP 2: Select the “Sustainable” and
then “Travel For LiFE Certification”
option.
STEP 3: Scroll down and select
the “Click Here” option.
STEP 4: Select the
“Register Now” option.
STEP 5: Please read carefully
and then select the “Accept &
Proceed” option.
STEP 6: Please read carefully
and then select the “Accept &
Proceed” option.
STEP 7: Select the
“Destination and Attractions”
option under the Tourism
category.
STEP 8: Select the “TFL
Destination” option under the
Tourism Sub category.
STEP 9: Please provide
“Basic Information”
and then “Proceed” to
the next step.
STEP 10: Enter the “Destination
Address” details.
STEP 11: Please provide “DMO Contact
Details” and then Proceed to the next
step.

STEP 12: Provide details of
the “Social Media Handles”
and then “Proceed” to the
next step.
STEP 13: “Review & Edit” any
information if necessary before the
final submission.
STEP 14: Verify the “Phone
number & Email ID” via OTP.
STEP 15: “Recheck” all the fields
and then “Proceed” to the next
step.
STEP 16: Take the pledge by
clicking on the “I/We Pledge”
option.

above requirements wherever applicable to the fullest extent possible

1. TFL Case study competition
• Ministry launched the Competition on World Tourism Day 2023, Circulated the guidelines and other
information through the mail
• States are requested to appoint Nodal Officers at the State to coordinate the competition
• States are requested to organize training of Master Trainers sessions with CNA-ST for the District /field
officers (Sessions organized with 8 states)
• Promote the Travel for LiFE (TFL) Case Study Competition - Tourism for Tomorrow through social
media, print media, and electronic media
• Encourage maximum participation from Public Sector organizations, industry Stakeholders, and
Universities
• States are required to form a State Level Committee to evaluate the case studies on areas of
evaluation and forward the top 10 case studies to the Ministry of Tourism
• TFL Case study Portal hyperlinking with the state website pages

process
Travel for LiFE Case Study Competition application process has two steps

Step 1: Registration:
Every organization who wish to participate in the competition should
register their organization first through the designated portal.

Step 2: Application:
After completing the registration, organization can submit application by
logging into the portal with the credentials provided during the
registration
