7.0 PROCEDURE

7.1 General
The following documents as a minimum shall be readily available for ready reference at work site.
 Client specifications
 Approved Method statement

7.2 Procedure
A. Ensuring Safety of Work Site
Pressure Test can be dangerous and should be performed with caution and careful attention to all safety
procedures. To ensure the safety of all workers, the following precaution must be completed prior to
conducting the test:
1. Notify system owner or personnel of the area to be avoided due to risks during pressure testing
2. Ensure that no high pressure testing occur in the work site
3. Ensure personnel conducting the test stand behind a barrier or the like during pressurization
4. Mark-off and barricade the work area

B. Conducting the Pressure Test

1. Identify the pipe to be tested. When possible, identify the maximum area tested.
2. Examine all connections prior to the test to ensure proper tightness.

3. Determine the pressure rating for all connected fittings and devices to ensure they are rated for the
maximum test pressure.
4. Backfill ¾ of the opening of the pipe that are not closed off by valves. Expose pipe joints.
5. Fill the pipe with clean water.
6. Apply a preliminary test pressure up to ¾ part or as directed by the Engineer.
7. Hold the maximum test pressure for 24 hours.
8. The Engineer must conduct an initial inspection. After 3-hour time period, conduct the second
inspection, another 3 hours, third and lastly, another 3 hours, final inspection.
9. Obtain confirmation of a successful test by the Engineer wherein the minimum shall be 9 bars.
10. Release the pressure and remove the testing fittings with caution to avoid escaping air streams,
debris and high decibel noise level.
11. Backfill the area with suitable and approved materials layer by layer.
