POSTER MAKING
(Short Composition)

Poster is a large notice announcing or advertising something. It generally creates social

awareness about a problem or needs. It also conveys a social message in an eye-catching
way.

● A poster displays a message or an appeal to create awareness on social evils or

issues.

● Layout: A creative title in the form of a slogan or rhyming words must be written
at the top or on either side of the drawing.

● For example, Speed thrills but kills; Pollution needs a solution; Green is clean.

● You can make one or two small drawings or illustrations related to the topic.

● Do not use any kind of colours like water colours, crayons or sketch pens etc.

● Use only pencil to make drawings.

● The content should be organised in an appropriate style.

● The theme or the message you want to convey should be clear.

● The poster should be creative and related to the topic.

● Do not spend much time on illustration . Written language and expressions will
only help you score better.

● Name of the issuing authority or the organizers (in case of an event) must be
clearly written at the bottom of the poster.
Sample:
Design a poster in not more than 50 words for your school library on the value of
books and good reading habits. You may use slogans.

Practice Questions:

1. Prepare a poster in not more than 50 words on kindness to animals to be displayed

in the city at public places appealing to people to show kindness to animals. You
are Secretary of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Delhi.

2. Fireworks and crackers are known to create pollution during festivals. As an

environmentalist design a poster in about 50 words to create awareness of their ill
effects.

3. Draw a poster on the importance of cleanliness in our life.

4. Design a poster to launch ‘Tree Plantation Campaign’ in the area surrounding your
school. Trees live for us. Let us protect our friends.
5. As the President, Environmental Club, DAV Sr. Sec. School, Ashok Vihar, Delhi,
you want to educate people about the harm done by plastics. You have organised a
campaign against plastics. Prepare a suitable poster highlighting the issue.

6. Delhi and surrounding areas are facing acute shortage of water. Prepare a poster
advising people to save water and adopt rain water harvesting
