4.1 INSPECTION
All mobile crane must be visually inspected daily (documentation required) and monthly
(documentation required) using, as a minimum, the inspection items in the attached
Mobile Crane Requirements table.
Prior to daily use, during shift changes or whenever operators are changed, mobile
cranes shall have Crane Daily Inspection Check List performed by a COMPETENT

Any defects, reported in the daily pre-operational inspection, that could affect the safe
operation of mobile cranes and other elevating/lifting equipment shall be corrected prior to
use.
Any drips or leaks should be reported to the Works Supervisor to coordinate the immediate
repair.
The periodic inspection frequency for cranes shall be according to crane’s manual.
Cranes that have been involved in any type of incident, causing damage to the crane, shall
have their sticker or certification immediately invalidated. The crane shall not be used until it

deficiencies have been corrected, and the crane re-inspected and certified by the Inspection
Department. Repairs shall be in conforming to the manufacturer’s instructions and the
relevant standards.
All incoming or extensively repaired crane shall have an initial inspection and a load test
prior to putting into service. The load test shall be conducted by a Competent Person.
The equipment should also be checked for drips and leaks of hydrocarbons or other
chemicals that may result in ground or water contamination.

Any Lifting or Rigging Equipment found to be defective and where the defect will effect the
safe operation of that equipment shall be withdrawn from service.
An ‘Out of Service’ tag shall be placed on the operating control point and the defect details
entered onto the tag. (See appendix C)
The person placing the tag shall notify the supervisor in charge of the equipment of the
