Flammable products like liquid and fumes from propane gas, gasoline and combustible fuel in your
surrounding work area can potentially ignite or explode.

To prevent fire and explosion:

• Do not use equipment until you have read and fully understand the operation of equipment.
Training by fully qualified personnel should be implemented prior to usage.

• Always allow your equipment to cool down, and make sure you turn OFF all burners and fuel
sources before changing propane bottle and/or filling fuel.

• If you smell propane gas, shut-off propane supply valve on tank and extinguish all open flames. If
the gas odor continues, stay away from equipment and call the fire department immediately.

• Do not refuel while smoking or near any open flame or sparks.

TRANSPORTING YOUR EQUIPMENT

TRAILER MOUNTED EQUIPMENT

• Never stand between trailer and hitch when hooking equipment to your truck.

• Ensure tires are inflated according to their specifications.

• Ensure the hitch bolts are tight and check the wheel lug nuts DAILY.

• Always use safety chains and fasten them in a crisscross pattern.

• Ensure the machine is parallel to the ground while in tow.

• Check all hose and electrical connections before each shift or before returning to work from breaks.
Ensure the pintle eye and hook, or ball and receiver, are properly connected to each other and to
your tow vehicle.

• Check your speed and mirrors often. Do not exceed 60-mph/100 km when in tow.

• Always fasten emergency breakaway kit wire/chain to the tow vehicle.

• Do not move, tow or otherwise transport your equipment with any burners lit.

SKID MOUNTED EQUIPMENT

SECTION 1: GENERAL INFORMATION & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 9

WHEEL TORQUE
It is extremely important to apply and maintain proper wheel mounting torque on your trailer. Torque
is a measure of the amount of tightening force applied to a fastener. The correct use of a properly
calibrated torque wrench is the best method to assure the proper amount of torque is being applied.

CAU TI ON
Wheel nut or bolts must be maintained at proper torque levels to
prevent loose wheels, broken studs.
Any of these failures may result in property damage, injury or death.

If fasteners require replacement, be sure to use only fasteners matched to the cone angle of your
wheel. The proper procedure for attaching the wheels is as follows:
• Start all bolts or nuts by hand to prevent cross threading.
• Tighten bolts or nuts in the sequence pictured below for the bolt pattern that matches your wheel.
• Tightening of the fasteners should be done in stages. Following the recommended sequence,
tighten fasteners to torque per wheel torque chart provided.
• Wheel nuts/bolts should be tightened to the specified torque before first road use and after each
wheel removal. Check and re-torque after the first 10 miles, 25 miles, and again at 50 miles.
Check daily before use thereafter.

SECTION 1: GENERAL INFORMATION & SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 10

CAU T I ON
Do not attempt to repair or modify a wheel. Even minor modifications
can have a great effect on safety and performance and can cause
serious injury or death.

BRAKES
Remove hubs and bearings yearly and check brakes for wear. Replace worn shoes, inspect bearings
and repack with grease or replace as required. Check the condition of drums and all parts and replace
where necessary. Adjust brakes as required.

WHEEL BEARINGS
Remove the hub, clean and repack wheel bearings every 24,000 miles or every two years, using a
good grade of bearing grease.

EMERGENCY BREAKAWAY SWITCH WITH BATTERY

The emergency breakaway switch is designed to apply the trailer brakes should a separation of the
trailer from the tow vehicle happen while in transit.

The switch is equipped with a length of cord that must be attached to the tow vehicle. Should the
trailer break away from the tow vehicle, this cord will be pulled out of the switch and the battery will
supply the power needed to apply the trailer brakes to stop the trailer.

The breakaway switch battery is normally charged from the tow vehicle. Ensure the tow vehicle is
always providing 12v power to the trailer plug. Failure to charge the battery may result in the brake not
being applied in a breakaway situation.
