Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Amareshwar Sahay, Jharkhand High Court,


Ranchi

About: Mr. Justice Amareshwar Sahay was born on 10th October 1948.
He completed his schooling from Zila School, Ranchi and
graduated in science from Ranchi College, Ranchi. Mr. Justice
A.Sahay, graduated in Law from Chhotanagpur Law College,
Ranchi securing first class, second position in the University and
started his practice in the year 1970 in the District Court, Ranchi.
Mr. Justice A. Sahay shifted his practice to the circuit Bench and
permanent bench of Ranchi since its inception from 1972. Mr.
Justice A. Sahay practiced in civil, criminal and constitution
service matters with specialization in criminal matters. He was
appointed as special P.P. Vigilance of the State of Bihar and
subsequently in the year 1998 was appointed as Govt. Advocate
of Patna High Court, Ranchi Bench, held elected post of
Secretary General, Vice President and President of the
Advocate’s Association of the Patna High Court, Ranchi Bench.
He was the first elected President of Advocate’s Association
Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi. Mr. Justice A. Sahay was
designated as Senior Advocate by the Jharkhand High Court, Mr
Justice A. Sahay was Retained counsel of Bihar State Financial
Corporation, Bihar School Examination Board and Central
Coalfields Limited. Mr. Justice A. Sahay was also Senior Panel
Counsel of the Central Govt. He hails from a respectable eminent
lawyers family of Ranchi. He took oath as additional Judge of the
Jharkhand High Court on 18th November’2002.

About:
Studied at D.A.V. School, Jharia, R.S.P.College, Jharia &
Chhotanagpur Law College, Ranchi. Assisted Shri R.S.Merathia,
Sr. Advocate while studying law. Enrolled as an Advocate on
31.07.1973 and started practicing in District Court at Dhanbad,
When Ranchi Bench of the Patna High Court was constituted,
shifted to Ranchi in 1976. Since then, regularly practicing in High
Court at Ranchi. Conducted all type of cases such as Bank cases,
Income Tax cases, Sales Tax cases, Writs of different nature, Civil
matters, Criminal matters, Labour and Revenue cases.
Appointed as Additional Public Prosecutor in High Court.
Appointed as Government Pleader in High Court at Ranchi.
Designated Senior Advocate by Jharkhand High Court. Elevated
as Judge of Jharkhand Highcourt on 18th November 2002 and

About: Graduated in Science and Law in the year 1970. Enrolled as an
Advocate in the year 1972. Practised in Civil, Criminal and Writ
matters at Allahabad High Court. Elevated as Additional Judge
on 07/01/2004. Took oath as Permanent Judge on 18/08/2005.
Transferred to Jharkhand High Court on 28.10.2010. Date of
Retirement 25/04/2012.

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Narendra Nath Tiwari, Former Judge,


Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi.
About: Born on 22-5-1952. Graduated with Eco-nomics Honours from
G.L.A. College,. Daltonganj in 1972. Did M.A. in Economics from
Ranchi University. Passed LL.B, from Chhotanagpur Law
College. Ranchi in 1975. Enrolled as an Advocate in Bihar State
Bar Council in November. 1975. Practised at Ranchi District
Court as well as High Court till 1984. Since thereafter exclusively
in Patna High Court (Ranchi Bench). After reorganization of
State of Bihar. Ranchi Bench became Jharkhand High Court in
2000 and since thereafter at Jharkhand High Court. Specialized in
Constitutional and civil matters. Was designated as Senior
Advocate in August, 2002. Was Standing Counsel for food
Corporation of India. Appeared as Sr. advocate for Nationalised
Banks. Public sector Companies, Corporate Houses. Educational
institutions, Religious Shrines, Waqf Board, CNI NWGEL

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice J.C.S.Rawat, Former Judge, Jharkhand High


Court, Ranchi.

About: Was born on 24th May 1949 in Nainital and got his primary
school education in Gahana, district Nainital. He did 10th ,12th
and Graduation from Higher Secondary School, Mukteshwar,
Nainital, GIC Nainital and DSB Govt. College respectively. He
did LL.B from Lucknow University. He joined Uttar Pradesh
Judicial Service in the year 1976 as Munsiff Magistrate. From
1991 to May 1994 worked as Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and
as Additional District Judge, Kanpur Nagar. From 1994 to Nov.
2000 worked as Additional Registrar / Registrar, Allahabad
High Court, Lucknow Bench (from July 2000 to Nov 2000
worked as Registrar of Allahabad High Court). Upon formation
of state of Uttarakhand he joined as Registrar of High Court of
Uttarakhand at Nainital and worked as such till Jan. 2003.
Worked as Court Administrator-cum-Registrar General of the
Hon'ble Supreme Court of India from Jan 2003 to June 2004 .
Appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of
Uttarakhand at Nainital on 29th, June 2004 and as Judge of High
Court of Uttarakhand on 21/03/2006. Transferred to Jharkhand
High Court on 01.10.2009 and superannuated on 23rd May, 2011.

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dhananjay Prasad Singh, Former Judge,


Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi

About: Justice Dhananjay Prasad Singh born on 6th September, 1946 is


Bachelor of Science and Law, having further acquired Master's
Degree in Business Administration from LEEDS University,
United Kingdom.
His Lordship served as Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi and
Director, Judicial Academy, Jharkhand before taking oath on
27th February, 2006 as Judge of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi.
Retired on 5th September 2008

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dabbiru Ganeshrao Patnaik

About: Mr. Justice Dabbiru Ganeshrao Patnaik was born on 29th


September, 1948. He did his schooling and graduation from
Jamshedpur. He obtained his LL.B. Degree from Patna Law
College, Patna. He was enrolled himself as an Advocate in Bihar
State Bar Council, Patna on 18th September, 1973 and practiced
in the area of Civil, Criminal and Labour Laws in the Civil Court,
Jamshedpur and Patna High Court Ranchi Bench, Ranchi of the
erstwhile Bihar. He was entered into Superior Judicial Service as
Additional District Judge on 10th May, 1991 and promoted to the
post of District Judge in the month of June, 2001. He was
appointed as a Judge of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi on 27th
February, 2006

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dilip Kumar Sinha, Former Judge,


Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi.

About: Mr. Justice Dilip Kumar Sinha was born on 1st August, 1949. He
did his schooling from Rajgir, Bihar and Higher Secondary,
graduation from Bettiah. He obtained his LL.B. Degree from
Patna Law College, Patna. He was enrolled himself as an
Advocate in Bihar State Bar Council, Patna on August, 1976 and
practiced in the area of Civil, Criminal and Writ matter. He has
entered into Superior Judicial Service as Additional District
Judge on 7th May, 1991 and promoted to the post of District
Judge on 25th June, 2001 and jointed as a Registrar (Vigilance),
Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi on 10th August, 2004. He was
appointed as a Judge of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi on 27th
February, 2006 and superannuated on 31st July, 2011.
Name Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Jaya Roy, Former Judge, Jharkhand High
Court, Ranchi.

About: Mrs.Justice Jaya Roy was born on 8th August, 1951. She passed
LL.B. from Patna University and was enrolled as an Advocate in
Patna High Court on 2nd March 1976 then she shifted her
practice to the Ranchi Bench of Patna High Court at Ranchi on
19th April,1976 the day on which the permanent bench was
established.
She hails from a Lawyer family and she credited for being the
first lady Advocate in Ranchi Bench of Patna High Court at
Ranchi. She was doing criminal, civil and service matters which
appeared for tribals & poor villagers mostly.
She appeared in High Court, Ranchi Bench, Member Board of
Revenue Ranchi, Divisional Commissioner South Chhotanagpur
Ranchi and Jharkhand State Consumer Forum Ranchi.
She was executive member of the Advocate Association of the
High Court for three terms.She was class representative of the
Patna University student union for two terms from Patna
Women’s College and from Magadh Mahila College under
Patna University.
She was appointed as Additional Judge of Jharkhand High Court
on 30.07.2008 and confirmed as permanent Judge on 20.01.2011.
Superannuated on 07th of August 2013.
Name Late Hon'ble Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar, Former Judge,
Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi

About: Born on 01st July, 1958.Did schooling from Bisheshwar Seminary


School,Chapra. Passed B.Sc. from Uday Pratap Singh Degree
College, Varanasi and obtained LL.B. degree from
Harishchandra Law College, Varanasi. Enrolled as an Advocate
on 01st October, 1980 with Bihar State Bar Council and practiced
in Patna High Court, Patna and its Bench at Ranchi from 1980 to
1991 in Constitutional and Service Matters. Appointed as A.D.J.
on 06th May 1991 and promoted as District Judge on June, 2001.
Elevated as Additional Judge of Jharkhand High Court,Ranchi
on 21st January,2009.

Transferred to Allahabad High Court on May 19, 2016.

On being transferred from Allahabad High Court, he took oath


as Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand on 10th May, 2019.

Appointed as Hon'ble The Acting Chief Justice of the High Court


of Jharkhand from 7th of June 2019 .

He passed away for his heavenly abode on 30.08.2019

Name Hon’ble Mr. Justice Alok Singh, Former Judge, Jharkhand High
Court, Ranchi.
About: Born on 28.04.1959 at Roorkee. Justice Singh attained his primary
education in Roorkee and thereafter did his Graduation in
science from M.S. College, Saharanpur. After which he pursued
law and joined practice in 1982 in Civil / District Courts
Roorkee, Hardwar. During this period he represented U.P. State
electricity Board, U.P. Awas Vikas Parishad, Oriental Insurance
Co. National Insurance Co., Nagar Palika Mangalore, Nagar
Palika Roorkee beside other organizations and individuals.
In April, 1993 shifted to New Delhi and started appearing before
Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi, State and National
Consumer commission, Delhi beside other courts and tribunals.
Represented State of U.P. in different type of cases before
Supreme Court of India being on the Senior Panel of Advocates
of State of U.P.
After creation of State of Uttarakhand started appearing and
conducting different types of cases before the Hon’ble High
Court of Uttarakhand at Nainital and has appeared for Central
Government before Hon’ble High Court of Uttarakhand being
Central Government Senior Panel Advocate and also appeared
for Power Grid Corporation of India, Uttarakhand Power
Corporation ltd., Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. , Food
Corporation of India, Uttarakhand Wakf Board, Board of control
of Cricket in India. Etc.
He was elevated to the High Court of Uttarakhand on 12.10.2009
as a Judge. On transfer, assumed office of Permanent Judge of
Punjab & Hariyana High Court, Chandigarh on 21.12.2009 (F.N.).
Took oath as the Judge of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi on
13.06.2012.
Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice H. C. Mishra, Former Judge, Jharkhand
High Court, Ranchi.
About: Born on 27th March, 1959 in a very respectable family.
Grandfather was a renowned educationist and Headmaster of
Zilla Schools in Pre Independence days and was also conferred
with the title of “RAI SAHIB”. Father, Mr. Justice Vishwanath
Mishra retired as Judge of Patna High Court in the year 1981.

Passed Secondary School Examination in the year 1974 from


Patna High School, I.Sc. from T.N.B. College, Bhagalpur and
B.Com. from Co-operative College, Jamshedpur. After doing
LL.B. from Patna Law College in the year 1984, joined Bar on
20.04.1984 as an Advocate of Patna High Court. Practiced mostly
in the Writ side (particularly Service matters) and appeared in
several important cases. Also practiced in Civil and Criminal
matters. During this period he was actively associated with the
Editorial Board of Patna Law Journal Reports and also authored
some Law Books.

Entered Bihar Superior Judicial Service in the year 1997 through


competitive examination securing 2nd position in the merit list.
Joined as Additional District & Sessions Judge, Chapra on
28.05.1997. In June 2000 transferred to Deoghar in the same
capacity.

Upon bifurcation of the State on 15.11.2000, he was taken into the


cadre of Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service. From 16.06.2001 to
06.02.2002, posted as Additional Judicial Commissioner-cum-
Special Judge, CBI, Ranchi, to try Fodder Scam Cases.
Promoted and posted as District & Sessions Judge, Deoghar from
11.02.2002 to 12.02.2005. During this period, also functioned as
Member of Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple Management Board
constituted by Hon’ble Jharkhand High Court. During this
period several developmental work were carried out in Baba
Baidyanath Temple, Deoghar.

Worked as Member Secretary, Jharkhand State Legal Services


Authority, Ranchi, from 15.02.2005 to 26.07.2006. The First Ever
Regional Meet of NALSA was organized at Ranchi, which was
highly appreciated by one and all. Also organized several other
conferences and meets.

Worked as Registrar Establishment, Jharkhand High Court, from


26.07.2006 to 12.06.2008 and as District & Sessions Judge,
Chaibasa from 18.06.2008 to 14.05.2009. With effect from
15.05.2009, posted as Registrar General of the Jharkhand High
Court, Ranchi and continued as such till elevation to the Bench.

Elevated as an Additional Judge of Jharkhand High Court on


27th April 2011 and took oath as a Judge of Jharkhand High

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice P. P. Bhatt, Former Judge, Jharkhand High


Court, Ranchi.
About: Born on 6th September, 1956. Had primary education in different
districts of Gujarat. Graduated in Arts faculty with Political
Science from H.K. Arts College, Ahmedabad and obtained
degree of Law from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad
affiliated to Gujarat University.

Enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat and


started practice in the High Court of Gujarat in 1984.

As a lawyer, appeared in several matters relating to


Constitutional Law, Service Law, Civil as well as Criminal Law.
Represented semi-Government Corporations / Bodies, Local Self
Government and other public as well as private companies such
as Ahmedabad Electricity Company, Gujarat Water Supply and
Sewage Board, Gujarat Housing Board. Represented Municipal
Corporation and Panchayats. Also advanced issues involving
public interest in the court of law.

Invited to join the judiciary and appointed as Judge, City Civil


and Sessions Court on 10th July, 1995 and dealt with numerous
Civil as well as Criminal cases.

Appointed as Member Secretary, Gujarat State Legal Service


Authority on 25th May 2001. Took keen interest in furtherance of
the objectives and activities of the Legal Service Authority and
worked hard especially for the redressal of claims of the victims
of the disastrous Earth Quake of Gujarat in 2001 through
Alternative Disputes Resolution method.

On 26th May 2003 appointed as Registrar, High Court of Gujarat


and on creation of the post of Registrar General, became the first
Registrar General of High Court of Gujarat, played pro-active
role to bring about administrative reforms in the field of
infrastructure, creation of new posts, use of Information
Technology in the High Court as well as the District Judiciary.

Actively involved in the organization of various programmes


and projects held during the Golden Jubilee Year including
development of the History and Heritage Museum of Gujarat
Judiciary in the Gujarat High Court.

Had an opportunity to work with Director National Judicial


Academy and Professors of I.I.M. for evolving Court
Management Plan.

Attended and participated in various State as well as National


level Conferences and Seminars etc.

On 22nd February 2007 repatriated and posted as Judge, City


Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad and again appointed as
Registrar General, High Court of Gujarat on 1st February 2008.

On 1st September 2010 repatriated and posted as Judge, City


Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad and worked as Special
Judge, CBI Court.

Elevated as an Additional Judge, High Court of Gujarat on 17th


February 2011.

On being transferred, he took oath as an Additional Judge in the


High Court of Jharkhand on 27th June, 2011.
Transfered to Gujarat High Court.

Name Late Hon'ble Mr. Justice D. N. Upadhyay, Former Judge of


Jharkhand High Court.

About: Born on 10th August, 1954 at Jamshedpur. Completed


schooling from R.D. TATA Higher secondary school,
Jamshedpur and graduated from Co-operative college and also
did LLB from the same college. Joined Bar on 3rd January, 1979
and practiced at Civil Court, Jamshedpur from 1979 to April,
1997. Remained General Secretary of District Bar Assocation,
Jamshedpur between 1992 to 1996 and visiting faculty member in
Law Department, Co-operative college for about six months.
Joined Bihar Superior Judicial Service as Addl. District Judge,
Giridih in May, 1997. Promoted as District & Sessions Judge in
the month of January, 2002. Remained posted as District &
Sessions Judge, Sahebganj, Director, Judicial Academy,
Jharkhand, Senior Law Advisor, Jharkhand State Electricity
Board, District & Sessions Judge, Giridih, Judicial Commissioner,
Ranchi and District & Sessions Judge, Dhanbad.

Elevated as an Additional Judge of Jharkhand High Court on


27th April 2011 and took oath as a Judge of Jharkhand High
Court on 31st of January,2013.

Superannuated on 09th of August 2016.


Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice Pramath Patnaik, Former Judge, High Court
of Jharkhand, Ranchi

About: Mr. Justice Pramath Patnaik was born on 14th June, 1959. He did
Matriculation in the year 1975 from Government High School,
Bhubaneswar, passed Intermediate in Arts in 1977 from B.J.B.
College, Bhubaneswar and completed his Graduation from the
same college in the year 1979 with 1st Class Honours with
distinction. He obtained Master Degree in Political Science from
Delhi University in the year 1981. Thereafter, graduated in Law
from University Law College, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar in
the year 1986.

He was enrolled as an Advocate in year 1986 and practiced at


Hon’ble Orissa High Court. He was appointed as Standing
Counsel from March 1994 to October 1994 in Orissa
Administrative Tribunal, Bhubaneswar and Government
Advocate in-charge from October 1994 to June 1995. He was
appointed as Additional Standing Counsel in Orissa High Court
from 2000 to 2006 and also appointed as Additional Government
Advocate in Orissa High Court from 2006 to 2009. Appointed as
Government Advocate in Principal Bench, Orissa Administrative
Tribunal, Bhubaneswar from September 2011 to September 2014.

Elevated as an Additional Judge of Orissa High Court on 24th


September, 2014.

On being transferred, he took oath as an Additional Judge in the


High Court of Jharkhand on 22nd December, 2014.
Name Late Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ravi Nath Verma, Former Judge High
Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi.

About: Mr. Justice Ravi Nath Verma born on 10th of December, 1956.
He Passed B.A.(Hons.) and also did LLB.
Joined Bihar Superior Judicial Service as Addl. District Judge, in
the year 1997. He was posted as Director, Judicial Academy,
Ranchi, Jharkhand before his elevation as Additional Judge of
High Court of Jharkhand on 26.09.2014.
He passed away for his heavenly abode on 22.10.201

Name Hon'ble Mr. Justice B B Mangalmurti, Former Judge, Jharkhand


High Court, Ranchi
About: After completion of Law degree, enrolled as an Advocate in the
year 1983 and started practising in the Ranchi Bench of Patna
High Court.

Entered the Bihar Superior Judicial Service in the year 1997 and
was posted as Additional District & Sessions Judge, Palamau at
Daltanganj, then at Patna as Additional District & Sessions Judge
cum Vigilance Judge in the year 2000.

Upon Creation of the State of Jharkhand, was allotted Cadre of


Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service.

Was Special Judge, CBI dealing with cases of Animal


Husbandary and Bitumen Scam at Dumka and Dhanbad
respectively.
Dealt with the matters of Family disputes as Principal Judge,
Family Court, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur.

Served as Registrar Vigilance of the High Court of Jharkhand.

Held the Post of Principal District & Sessions Judge at Bokaro ,


Godda , Hazaribag and Jamshedpur.

On deputation to the Government Of Jharkhand, held the post of

Elevated as Additional Judge on 20th May, 2017 and sworn in as


Judge of the High Court of Jharkhand at Ranchi on 26th April,
2019.
