FILEAID TRAINING DOCUMENT

PURPOSE:

File-aid is an interactive, full-screen system for editing, browsing, defining, copying,

reformatting, comparing & printing VSAM, IAM, ISAM, PDS, BDAM & sequential files under
TSO/ISPF.

For Invoking File aid tool Enter option ‘F’ on main menu & following screen appears.

Screen 1
1. Browse :

For browse a file enter option 1 on screen 1 & the following screen comes.

Screen 2

Here (on screen 2) we enter the dataset name, copybook member & PDS selection criteria ‘N’
(If there is no condition)

1.1 Selection criteria :

If we want to access the record based on some condition we give selection criteria as ‘T’. Then
we get following screen:

For to select the record if we want to give condition on field then select option ‘2’ & enter. We
get the following screen.

Here we can give condition(as shown) & press PF3 & we get the record based on our selection
criteria.

If condition is to be given on position we select ‘2’ & we get screen :

Here we enter field position, length & condition & PF3 & then we get the record.

If we select selection criteria ‘Q’ on screen 2 then screen 5 comes directly.

1.2 Browse mode :

If browse mode is selected as ‘C’ file is gets opened as flat file as shown.

2. Edit:

For editing command is F.2 & other options for opening is same as it is of browse.

3. XREF

This function creates or maintains record layout cross reference members in a special
file-aid PDS library. Xrefs are used to automatically match record layouts to data records
in file aid functions which use layouts to format data. An xref is needed whenever the
data being formatted requires more than a single layout in a single source library
member.

4. View layout:

For view the layout enter option 8 on screen 1 and we get the following screen:

Here we enter pds name & member name of copybook & we can get the layout as:

5. UTILITY

We have different dataset utilities in option 3 on screen 1.

5.1 GDG

We can Create GDG base in entering option 3.2 on screen 1 & option selection ‘G’ on
the screen below:

5.2 VSAM

VSAM dataset can be defined in f.3.5(VSAM UTILITY) screen:
