2.0 INTRODUCTION
Marrybrown was founded in 1981 by Lawrence Liew and Nancy Liew, a sweet
husband and wife. They begin the business at a small store in Wong Ah Fook Street
which is located in Johor. Although, lots of popular franchises already in Malaysia such
as KFC and McDonald's, but they tried to make something different to grow the
business. Since the majority of Malaysian people is Muslim, it's such a good idea for
them to create a halal product that will attract all buyers, especially Muslim people who
are always seeking for halal-western food. Marrybrown got an idea to create food that is
suitable with Malaysian food-taste and affordable price.
Marrybrown had succeeded to achieve their goal, this already proven after a few
years of opening the first Marrybrown franchises restaurant that can be found in the
main city around the Malaysia and after that they try to enter international market by
opened the new store in Indonesia, India and UAE. Today, it has more than 500 outlets
across 16 countries such from Singapore, Thailand and India. Marrybrown has always
emphasized on halal products serving millions of guests world wild with a wide variety of

3.0 PLANNING
Vision
To be a global food service organization and a worldwide brand
Mission
We are committed to providing the freshest and the best quality food prepared and
served by passionate employees who take great pride in serving and delighting
customers with a truly memorable and quality dining experience
The corporate level plan of Marrybrown involves the strategic goal of opening
more branches not only in Malaysia but also around the world by applying strategies
such as corporate level strategy. An example of this is the investment by Al Abbas
Group in the United Arab Emirates to facilitate its global growth. The business level
strategy of Marrybrown focuses on providing special and delicious food tailored to local
tastes, such as nasi lemak, at a reasonable price. This approach has allowed
Marrybrown to target a wide range of customers, including youths, working adults, and
families, and has contributed to its success in both domestic and international markets.
MarryBrown's business level plan involves offering a unique signature meal that
sets it apart from competitors. MarryBrown's focus on behavioral segmentation, brand
loyalty, and consumer benefits further exemplifies its product strategy, allowing the
company to effectively target and attract customers. By focusing on unique menu
offerings and the franchise business model, Marrybrown has been able to establish a
strong position in the fast-food industry, both in its home market of Malaysia and in
numerous international locations. An example of Marrybrown's unique signature meal is
its Nasi Lemak Burger, which combines the flavors of traditional Malaysian cuisine with
the convenience of a fast-food burger.
5
3.3 Functional level strategy
Marrybrown involves daily activities and short-term plans to ensure efficient use
of resources and goal achievement. Functional level plan typically takes less than a
year and is achieved through the daily operations by the employees, with the aim of
ensuring efficient resource utilization. The example of functional level plan at
Marrybrown includes the involvement of lower-level managers in providing training and
development to new employees, and the estimation of daily demand by restaurant
managers to take appropriate actions and minimize wastage.
4.0 ORGANIZING
Organizational is the grouping of people and work into one work unit. It can be
used as a guide to form an effective communication system between managers and
employees and be effective in the decision-making process. The departments in the
branch are divided according to the important functions that exist in the branch. The
researcher found that the MarryBrown Sdn Bhd company practices a form of
organizational division according to function.
6
Based on the organization chart of MarryBrown Sdn Bhd, it shows that a
functional organizational structure has been implemented because there is a grouping
of tasks based on the basic functions of the organization.
5.0 LEADING
First of all, in this theory MarryBrown also did the same thing which is they find
what outcomes their employees are trying to obtain from their jobs and the organization.
MarryBrown paid their employees salaries and wages based on their performance and
7
position. The higher the employee's position, the higher the salaries or wages they got.
For example managers in MarryBrown positions got higher wages than other lower
employees because of their high position in the organization. The employees will be
paid according to the base hourly salary rate that shows up on the employee's paycheck
every other week.
Another guideline from House’s Path Goals Theory is rewarding the employees
for good performance and goal attainment with the outcomes they desire. For example
MarryBrown staff will get bonus and incentive reward if they succeed to achieve the
objective and goals that are given by the company. This step will motivate all the
employees in the organization to work harder everyday to fulfill the company objective
and goals. A special holiday incentive will be given to the special employees. The
special incentive holidays and bonus for sure will increase every employee's
productivity.
Lastly, based on the third House’s Path-Goals Theory, the leader must clarify the
paths to goal attainment for employees, remove any obstacles to performance, and
express confidence in employees capabilities. For example MarryBrown also provides
training to their workers in order to improve the employees quality in the organization.
MarryBrown also provides training for the new employees that will be coached and
trained by the experienced and talented manager. In this case managers should be
responsible for guiding and coaching the new worker to ensure that they will understand
their job and prevent any mistake when they work in the organization soon.
6.0 CONTROLLING
Control consists is making sure that everything happens in accordance with the
established plan, the guidelines provided, and the tenets stated. The manager of the
Marrybrown restaurant has utilized it as a tool for monitoring and making adjustments to
make sure that performance stays within expectations. Establishing performance
standards, measuring present performance, comparing current performance to
established standards, and taking corrective action when performance falls short of
expectations are all part of the controlling process. When the manager of the restaurant
8
is able to predict the level of demand on a daily basis, he can take the appropriate
action and ensure that the performance standard is met.
The restaurant is able to use both the monetary and non-monetary standards that are
available here. First, sales reports and financial standards are used to measure
monetary standards, while customer satisfaction and production reports are used to
measure non-monetary standards. The goal of Marrybrown Restaurant's
once-per-four-month quality assurance (QA) program is to guarantee that customers
receive high-quality goods and services and that all resources are used effectively and
fresh. QA conducts inspections in accordance with quality, service, cleanliness, and
value. Regarding quality, the employees of Marrybrown will ensure that food items like
vegetables, chicken, and beverages are fresh and that the food is prepared in
accordance with standard operating procedures. This is because they are accountable
for the customer's health and the quality of the product they produce.
For instance, Marrybrown never leaves the chicken out in the open for longer
than an hour because that will compromise the freshness of the ingredients. If
Marrybrown cannot sell all of the food on that particular day, they will discard it all and
won't ask the employees to bring it back because doing so could protect them from food
poisoning. Regarding the in-service aspect, employees will greet and exit customers
with a smile on their faces, wear appropriate work attire at all times and prepare food for
customers quickly. Regarding cleanliness, they will ensure that the restroom and tables
are spotless and maintain their cleanliness. To ensure that the customer receives the
value items, double-check the customer's order and prepare the food in accordance
with standard operating procedure.
9
7.0 RECOMMENDATION
MarryBrown has been established in the market for a long time. However, there
are still customers who have not yet enjoyed the food because the company has not yet
succeeded in attracting the interest of the entire community in Malaysia to try its
products.
We recommended the company to carry out research & development (R&D) and
innovation continuously. For example, the addition of new menus such as beefsteak and
smoked duck because some users are allergic to MarryBrown's main menu which is
chicken because it has supplements. MarryBrown needs to improve the quality of
products that can meet consumer tastes.
Next, MarryBrown can also improve technological advances such as gas deep
fryers by raising a higher and more stable temperature to fry more chicken so that it can
save more frying time and still maintain the quality of the food.

8.0 CONCLUSION
This assignment really helps us to run a certain organization with the right
strategy and also learn how to build high management skills. We also know that if you
want to run a company, not only upper management is important, but it is also required
support from the whole team to achieve the organization’s goals. In short, a company or
organization including a restaurant needs to implement the process of planning,
organizing, leading, controlling, motivation, and locus in decision-making for the
company to run smoothly.
Last but not least, we believe that MarryBrown Malaysia can have the potential to
expand its product in the global market because they practice their vision and mission
with deal way, effective and efficient management function, and strength that they have.
In order to increase employees' productivity in an organization, companies need to
provide training for their employees. MarryBrown also provides training for the new
workers that will be coached by the talented and experienced manager.
