26. Prove that √3 is an irrational number.
27. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 6𝒙2 – 3 – 7𝒙 and verify the relationship between the zeroes
and the coefficients.

28. A shopkeeper gives books on rent for reading. She takes a fixed charge for the first two days, and an
additional charge for each day thereafter. Latika paid Rs 22 for a book kept for six days, while Anand
paid Rs 16 for the book kept for four days. Find the fixed charges and the charge for each extra day.

Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. One car starts from A and another from B at the same
time. If the cars travel in the same direction at different speeds, they meet in 5 hours. If they travel
towards each other, they meet in 1 hour. What are the speeds of the two cars?

Section D consists of 4 questions of 5 marks each.
32. The diagonal of a rectangular field is 60 m more than the shorter side. If the longer side is 30 m more
than the shorter side, find the length of the sides of the field.

The sum of the ages of a father and his son is 45 years. Five years ago, the product of their ages(in
years) was 124. Determine their present age.
33. A TV tower stands vertically on a bank of a canal. From a point on the other bank directly opposite the
tower, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower is 60°. From another point 20 m away from this
point on the line joining this point to the foot of the tower, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower
is 30°. Find the height of the tower and the width of the canal.

From the top of a 8 m high building, the angle of elevation of the top of a cable tower is 60° and the
angle of depression of its foot is 45°. Determine the height of the tower. (Take √3 = 1.73)

36. Case Study – 1.
While designing the school year book, a teacher asked the student that the length and width of a
particular photo is increased by 𝑥 units each to double the area of the photo. The original photo is 18 cm
long and 12 cm wide.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) Write an algebraic equation depicting the above information. (1)
(ii) Write the corresponding quadratic equation in standard form. (1)
(iii) What should be the new dimensions of the enlarged photo? (2)

37. Case Study – 2
Statue of Unity. It is a colossal statue of Indian statesman an independent activist Sardar Vallabh Bhai
Patel, who was the first Deputy Prime Minister and first Home Minister of Independent India. Patel was
highly respected for a leadership in uniting he 562 princely states of India form a single Union of India.
It is located in the state of Gujarat and it is the world tallest statue.

(i) For a person, standing 120 𝑚 from the centre of the base of the statue. The angle of elevation from
the base of statue is 45𝑜 Find the height of the statue. (1)
(ii) For a person, standing 𝑥 𝑚 from the centre of the base of the statue. The angle of elevation from the
base of statue is 30𝑜 Find the value of 𝑥 if the height of the statue is 182 meter. (1)

(iii) A cop 𝑖𝑛 the helicopter near the top of the statue (height of statue is 182 meter) notices a car at some
distance from the statue. If the angle of the depression from the 𝑐𝑜ps eyes to the car is 60𝑜 . How far
is the car from the centre of the base of the statue? (2)

38. Case Study – 3
In a GPS, The lines that run east-west are known as lines of latitude, and the lines running north-south
are known as lines of longitude. The latitude and the longitude of a place are its coordinates and the
distance formula is used to find the distance between two places. The distance between two parallel lines
is approximately 150 km. A family from Uttar Pradesh planned a round trip from Lucknow (L) to Puri
(P) via Bhuj (B) and Nashik (N) as shown in the given figure below

Based on the above information answer the following question using the coordinate geometry.
(a) Find the distance between Lucknow (L) to Bhuj(B). (1)
(b) If Kota (K), internally divide the line segment joining Lucknow (L) to Bhuj (B) into 3 : 2 then
find the coordinate of Kota (K). (1)
(c) Name the type of triangle formed by the places Lucknow (L), Nashik (N) and Puri (P). (2)

Find a place (point) on the longitude (y-axis) which is equidistant from the point Lucknow (L) and
Puri (P).
