Topic Overview
This learning activity sheet aims at helping you reinforce your current skill in writing observing
and depicting the languages used in research, campaign, and advocacies. These three important
concepts are necessary in dealing with information and in disseminating them to the public for
societal development.
Are you familiar with research? Have you tried watching an environmental campaign rally?
Did you ever read a leaflet of an advocacy?
Research, campaign, and advocacies are different but intertwined concepts that require the skill
of gathering and using information sources. Their languages are formal yet clear and understood by
the readers in order to maximize their use and specifically serve their purpose.

Your answers to the questions are important in understanding the languages of research,
campaigns, and advocacies. Moreover, your experience is also significant in realizing the key role of
these three concepts in your daily life.
You may see it absurd but you encounter all these every day. Such activities as watching
television, listening to radio, reading books, browsing the Internet, interviewing people, exchanging
ideas, and getting the common insights are related to the concepts of research, campaigns, and
advocacies.
Knowing More
Research has various technical terms that you should be familiarize with. However, some few
are very significant to have a general outlook of what research is. Here are some terms used in
research:
1. Design. It is the overall strategy to carry out the process of research. It provides the plan of
how research will be done.
2. Data. These are gathered facts and information through pre-identified methodologies and
instrumentalities.
3. Significance. It exemplifies the important data and relevant as well as meaningful findings of
research if successfully carried out.
4. Evidence. It includes observations or information that can help solve or address a problem or
concern.
5. Treatment. It is the course of action designed for research.
6. Experiment. In experimental research, it is a test to see what happens when all variables but
one is controlled.
7. Conclusion. It is a summary of what has been carried out and learned from the research
process, in general.
8. Observation. It is looking keenly at the subjects at hand.
9. Statistics. It is the study of numerical data and how they are organized.

Primary sources provide raw information and first-hand evidence. Examples include intervi
transcripts, statistical data, and works of art. Primary research gives you direct access to the
subject of your research.
Secondary sources provide second-hand information and commentary from other researche
Examples include journal articles, reviews, and academic books. Thus, secondary research
describes, interprets, or synthesizes primary sources.
Primary sources are more credible as evidence, but good research uses both primary and
secondary sources.

3. Social Mobilization. Social mobilization encourages people to work together to solve
problems and participate in decision-making processes.

5. Lobbying. Lobbying is an attempt to influence government decisions, usually in the lobby
outside the legislative chamber.

Valuing Significance
Research is the
facts and reach new conclusions. It is important to conduct research because it helps people attain new
discoveries in any field of study.
On the other hand, campaign is a pre-planned series of actions that individuals take over time
to effect change, such as social or political change. It is necessary to direct a course of action
especially in addressing a social concern.
Finally, advocacy is the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal. It is needed to help
people realize what should be prioritized in the society. It also helps them make choices that may
affect lives in the long-term run.
