FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How do I reach NIT Trichy campus?
● From Central Bus Stand or Railway Junction: Bus, taxi and autorickshaw
facilities are available to reach the campus.
● From Airport:​ Taxis are available all around the clock to the campus.

2. When and how do I take hostel admission?


After completing institution admission formalities, students should go to a room in the
Lecture Hall Complex to remit their DD and fill their hostel application forms
following which the boys can report to Hostel Office for room allocation, on the same
day. For girls, room allocation will take place in the Lecture Hall itself.

3. How do I the pay hostel fees?


A total hostel fees of Rs.29250 in form of DD has to be drawn separately in favour of
Chief Warden, NIT TRICHY, payable at NIT TRICHY from any bank. This fees has
no exemption for any category and cannot be adjusted from the admission fees which
is already remitted to the CCMT/JOSAA/DASA. Hostel admission is different from
NIT TRICHY institute admission thus the two cannot be connected. Advance for
extras are optional. Hence a student can choose between Rs.29,250(without extras) or
Rs.31,250 (with extras) for hostel and mess fee. <​Hostel Fees Odd Semester 2017-18>

4. What are ‘extras’ in mess food?


Extras are chargeable vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes which are provided to the
student apart from the regular mess menu. Vegetarian messes will not provide
non-vegetarian extras.

5. What are the hostels available for first year boys and girls in NIT Trichy?
Boys are distributed among Agate, Diamond, Coral and Jade.
Girls reside in Opal hostel (A and B).

6. Are there any specific visiting hours in the hostels?


NO.

7. Where can the parents and students eat?


Aavin, Buhari, Cafe Coffee Day, Chennai Bakery, Classics, Coke Station, Neelkesh,
NIC, Staff Canteen, Tasty Chat Khazana, Vasantham Canteen, Vinayaka and various
mobile stalls.
Angel Bakery and Night Canteen, inside the Opal Hostel Complex, are accessible
only for girls.
8. What are the accommodation facilities for parents?
The institute guest house is available for booking by the students.
Also there are several hotels in Trichy. Male members of the family are not allowed
inside the girls hostel zone.

9. What is the provision for internal sliding between the branches at the end of first
year in NIT Trichy?
NIT Trichy does not allow internal sliding at the conclusion of first year.

10. What are the mess options available to first years along with their timings?
Boys​: There is a separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian mess.
Girls​: There are two messes situated within hostel premises. Both of them serve
vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
● Breakfast: 07:00 AM to 09:30 AM
● Lunch: 12:00 PM to 02:30 PM
● Snacks: 04:30 PM to 05:30 PM
● Dinner: 7:30 PM to 09:30 PM

11. What is the dress code (if any) followed in NITT?


There is no strict dress code. However during classes and labs, shorts and sleeveless
dresses are strictly not allowed. Lab uniform and lab shoes are compulsory for first
years.
● Boys​: Formal Shirt and Full Length Pants
● Girls​: Chudidar with dupatta, Kurtis, Saree
Students must follow this code during classes, in the College avenue.

12. Where are the lab uniform and shoes available?


Students can obtain these from shops in the shopping complex by placing orders.

13. Where are daily use items available?


● The Shopping Complex: bakery, grocery, stationery related items
● Beds, cycles and toiletries will be made available in hostels during admission
days.

14. Where are the laundry facilities available in NIT Trichy?


● Inside the Opal Hostel (only for girls)
● Shopping Complex
● Near Chennai Bakery
Pay and use washing machines are available within the hostels.

15. Are mobiles and laptops permitted?


Yes. Mobile phones and laptops are permitted inside the campus but NOT​ inside the
classes.

16. Does the college provide wifi facility in the hostels?


Superfast and undisturbed wifi hotspots are available in all hostel zones.
17. Can students use motorized/powered vehicles inside the campus?
Students are strictly prohibited from possessing or using motorized/powered vehicles
inside the campus. Such vehicles, if used/possessed will be confiscated by the
authorities and a fine of Rs. 10,000 will be imposed.

18. What transport facilities are available in campus?


● NITT bus
● Battery cars (shuttle services)
Students are advised to use cycles for movement within the campus.

19. What is the availability of bank(s) and ATM(s) on campus?


● State Bank of India, NITT branch in the shopping complex
● SBI ATM in shopping complex and near Barn Hall
● Canara Bank ATM in the old Student Activity Centre (SAC)

20. Can the student open an account in his/her name at the bank inside campus?
Yes. Students are advised to keep their “hostel admission receipt” safely for getting an
account easily.

21. Do the students have permission to receive online deliveries?


Online deliveries can be collected inside the campus near the Barn Hall or in the
Shopping Complex.

22. What are the extra-curricular activities which first years can participate in?
● College sports teams
● Cultural and technical clubs
● College fests

23. What is the minimum attendance required to be eligible for the semester exams?
Students are required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in each subject
individually for majority of the subjects. Anyhow the attendance criterion depends on
the course plan of every subject.

24. Who should be the point of contact for further queries?


Peer supporters can be contacted in case of queries. (Refer to the peer supporters
document on the official website.) A mentorship system is in place at NITT. Along
with the admission procedure, each student will be assigned a senior mentor. The
mentor will contact the student shortly. Doubts can be clarified with him/her.
