SSM – Programmer : (For SSM-4 and SSM-5 Motors)

The hand terminal is designed to allow simple programming of the SSM-4 “current controlled modulating”
and SSM-5 “current controlled ON-OFF” servo motors.
The terminal has four membrane buttons and an LCD display with two lines. The functions of the program
buttons seen in Figure-1 are as follows.

Settings :
The angle settings in SSM-4 and SSM-5 servo motors are made digitally. Mechanically adjustable servo motor
cams can be subject to wear at the time of adjustment. For SSM…-series motors, no such deformation occurs,
so the adjustments are very simple and the working processes at conditions suitable for its structure are
considerably long. Through the message display of the SSM-4 Programmer, each step of the motor’s action can
be monitored and can be adjusted in 1° increments.

Programming :
After the electrical connection of the SSM-4 servo motor is made, in line with the given
schematic diagram, connect one end of the 1-meter data cable (supplied with the
programmer) to the programmer and the other end to the program connector on the
lower body of the servo motor. Figure- 4

When the hand terminal connector is connected to an

operating SSM-4 or SSM-5 motor, the actual angular

position of the servo motor and the corresponding angular
value of the input current will be viewed on the display.
(The number 45 in the figure corresponds to the angular value of the 12 mA control current at
the electrical connection socket).

If the input current is 4mA, the information on the display is

as shown on the left.

You can change the factory default low-high limit values (0-90 degrees) of the SSM-4 and SSM-5 servo motors
according to the needs of your process, as shown below.

1 - Press the MENU button for five seconds! Take your finger off the button when display changes! The following
display will be seen.

The first line shows the actual angular value of the motor, for example, MOTOR: 49 1
The second line shows the minimum angle of the motor, set previously, LLIM : 00

2 - Press the SELECT button to set the minimum angle value of the motor ( LLIM )!

An arrow will appear on the display, as seen on the right. This sign indicates that 2
the motor limit can be changed.

3 – Input the minimum desired opening limit by means of the up and down buttons. 3
The LLIM (Minimum angle value of the motor) is selected as 10° in the figure on
the right.

4 - The arrow sign is cleared by pressing the SET button. 4

If you do not want to change the maximum opening limit (HLIM = High limit)
of the servo motor, press the MENU button until you see an INPUT message
on the display. This saves the changes you have made.
If you want to change also the maximum opening limit of the servo motor,
follow the sequence below.

5 - To set the maximum angle value (HLIM) of the motor, press the Up 5
button to select HLIM = High limit, and then press the SELECT button to display
the arrow. As shown in the figure on the right, the previously
saved maximum set value is displayed on the second line.

6 - Input the desired value on the display using the up and down buttons. 6
In the figure on the right, the maximum angle of the motor has been selected as 80°.
To exit the program, press the MENU button until the INPUT message appears on the display.
The new minimum and maximum angle values are thus stored in the memory of SSM-4/5
servo motors. The SSM-4 or SSM-5 will change position in line with to the new inputted values.
The SSM-4/5 servo motor will now run with a 10° minimum angle at a control current of 4mA.
and with an 80° maximum angle at a control current of 20 mA.

Manual control of the SSM-4 and SSM-5-type servo motors :

The structure of the SSM-4/5 permits the simple and accurate modulating of the On-Off burners
used in the industry.

When the burner is started up for the first time, since the mixing ratio of air and fuel is unknown, it is useful to
adjust it manually. This process can be done very easily with the SSM Programmer. The angular values of the
Fuel - Air valves are monitored from the display, and the best burning point is determined. The angles
determined are saved in the memory after exiting from the manual position.

The following method should be followed in order to move the SSM-4/5 servo motors manually.

Values given as an example.

Your servo motor can be in any position when operating.
In the figure at the right, the control signal is 15 mA and the motor angle is 62°.

Press the UP and DOWN buttons on the SSM-4

programming device together and hold until the MANUAL
message appears on the display. When the MANUAL
MENU BUTTON UP BUTTON
message is displayed, take your finger off the Up and Down buttons. The display be
SELECT BUTTON DOWN BUTTON
as shown on the right.

Pressing and holding the up or down buttons will allow the SSM-4 servo motor to be moved to the angle you
desire, and it will stay in position when you take your hand off the button. You can determine the optimum
burning point of the burner in this way. If desired, you can save your selected minimum and maximum angles
in the memory of the SSM-4 servo motor by following the sequence in the programming section.

To exit from the manual menu, press the Up and Down buttons together until the
INPUT message appears.
The display of the programming device will be as shown on the right. When you take
your finger off the up and down buttons, the servo motor will return to its previous
position. Your work to set the manual position will affect the motor unless it is saved.
