FLAME MONITORS FOR MULTI

BURNER CONTROL

03B – 03B1

Application :

Flame monitors , with the help of an appropriate electrode or UV photocell ,

shows that the flame is either under the standarts , combustion is completed ,
or the flame is off. 03B and 03B1 models shows the flame is on or off via free
circuit output. 03B Series flame monitors can be used in the industrial areas
where there is a need of equal heat diffusion or where multiple burners should
be used since these flame monitors has two or four flame signal inputs. The
controlling system can be enhanced by connecting 03B… series to each other
via their signal outputs 03B… series flame monitors can be used with ionisation
electrodes

Ionisation Electrodes :

Ionisation electrodes can be used as flame monitoring detectors in gas fuel burners.
Gas flame , generates a rectification line between grounded burner and ionisation electrode. Here flame’s current
rectifying effect and electrical conductivity principle is in use.
The flame detector used for ionisation current is a high quality , heat resistant , coated in aluminum oxide steel
rod which has a diameter of a couple of milimeters. It should have a protection level which is resistant to a
minimum value of 50 megaohms.

Application Areas:

Flame Controlling in the burners

Monitoring the combustion in semi-automatic burner systems
Providing “ Flame On” or “Flame Off” signal to the PLC s
Monitoring multiple flames in control of a burner programming relay ( ERA-01G ... Series or similar
burner controllers )
Multiple burners systems which are atmospheric operated.

Operating Functions :

Electric connections for 03B and 03B1 are given in the diagrams section. If Power is connected to Terminal
1 and neutral is connected to terminal 2 and if all of the ionisation electrodes are capable of detecting the
flame under the set standards (minimum of 0.8 uA x number of zones ) , approximately after 500ms. the
main relay in 03B is energised. As shown in Figure 1 , free contact is connected to Terminal 4 and 5.
Whereas rectified signal output can be received from Terminal 3. This signal output should be connected
to the ionisation electrode input of the desired program relay.

If the flame detection of any of the ionisation electrodes are cut off , the signal out will be cut off too and
the display lamps on the front cover of 03B will be off which are connected to flame detection.

two flame 03B Flame Monitor electrode inputs .

Figure 2 : Simple Application diagram

for 03B and 01G Ignition Relay

In two channelled monitors 10 and 11 terminal

outputs should be connected to each other
and be bridged to the Power input Terminal no 1 .

It’s recomended that the power line of 03B Flame Monitor’, should be connected to terminal 4 of
control unit, as shown in Figure 2.

03B1 Application Diagrams:

In Figure 3 – 4 and 5 ; electric connections for four zoned 03B1 monitor is given according to the
number of flames. If the monitor needs to control four flames , standard connection shown in
Figure 3 can be used. 03B1 monitors can be operated as minimum of two channels.
If all the ionisation electrodes shown as FS1 …FS4 in the figure 3 , can detect the flame under the
set standards ( minimum 0,8uA x quantity) , rectified signal output can be obtained from Terminal
3 of 03B.
(This signal output should be connected to the ionisation electrode input of the program relay being
used , as shown in Figure 6 as an example.)

As seen in the photo on the right , 03B1 has 4 yellow lights on its front cover. If four
electrodes are connected to the monitor , the yellow light will be on , related to the
signal coming from that electrode. The light of the channel that doesn’t have flame
signal , will be off. In this condition , contact output will be off. For example , in the
photo there is no flame information coming to channel 2.
