Reference: Mohamad Fahmi Bin Wan Yusoff

To whom it may concern

I have known Mohamad Fahmi Bin Wan Yusoff in both a professional capacity and on a personal level for the last
five years and I cannot speak highly enough of the qualities both academic and personal that Fahmi has displayed
during those years. Fahmi came to the University of Auckland as part of a Malaysian Government Scholarship
cohort. This meant that he was selected from a nationwide application process predicated on having achieved to a
high academic standard, be reasonably fluent in English and to convince a selection committee of the efficacy of
his application. During his stay at the University of Auckland he maintained average university standards for
completion with a GPA average of 4.4.

Fahmi was able to maintain his grade point average as well as energetically participating in the life of the
University, worked in the local community and consequently made many friends and participated in a research
project with Professor Tom Nicholson looking at the use of Skype technology for tutoring school children as part of
their literacy routine n Auckland. He also was as part of a group that used Skype with a Malaysian school while
based in Auckland to ascertain the possibility of internet-based learning. Fahmi found time to travel in New
Zealand as part of a group and individually and undertook voluntary work in the community working with children in
an afternoon tutoring project working with children with below chronological literacy levels at a local school.

Fahmi has continued this approach in his working career when because of the nature of teaching placement in
Malaysia he was sent to a rural primary school as an English teacher. During this time he has worked with
students at all levels of the primary system. This is challenging but he has endeavoured to understand his students
both in their academic progress and in creating situations that enable the students to experience new challenges in
learning a new language. As always, Fahmi has looked to further his professional capacity with extra-curricular
activities (WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY HERE!!!!!)

Fahmi has always indicated his interest in furthering his academic qualifications and to facilitate this goal Fahmi
believes that completing a post-graduate qualification from your establishment will enable him to fulfil this
professional goal. If given the opportunity presented to attend your Institution Fahmi will succeed – he would not
have it any other way.

I am fully supportive of Fahmi’s goals and application therefore if there is any other relevant information I can
provide please contact me.

Yours sincerely,
