1 MECHANICAL DESCRIPTION
1.1 DESCRIPTION
• Pressure Housing.
• PSU/Driver circuit board.
• Flowmeter Logic circuit board.
• Pressure tight Upper Head fitted with monoconductor pin.
• Lower End fitted with 8 pin internal connector.
Continuous Flowmeter Spinners are fully protected within the shroud of the spinner body. The
bottom nose at the bottom of the shroud prevents the spinner being damaged should the tool stand
up on anything flat, but may not prevent damage if a spiked object projects up inside the shroud.
A magnet at the top end of the spinner shaft rotates inside the oil filled Sensor Assembly. Oil leaks
out during logging to lubricate the bearings. This chamber must be filled before every logging
operation. See CFBE Manual for Oil Filling Procedure. Outside this chamber (at atmospheric
pressure), 5 Hall effect switches detect the magnet’s rotation.
Since the overall CFS design is for the tool to be as simple as possible and to allow fluids flow
almost full access into the spinner from below, a lower tool joint has not been allowed for. It is
therefore not possible to mount anything below the tool.
Item numbers refer to the spinner section drawing unless otherwise indicated.
Locking Spring
1 Remove spirol pin (item 11) locking bottom nose (item 2) to the spinner body assembly
(item 1). Unscrew and remove the bottom nose.
Magnet Assembly
3 Slide Shaft downwards approximately 2″ and then push back up to push out the upper
Bearing (item 12) from the top of spinner body (item 1). Once done extract Shaft
downwards and out of the shroud. Handle the shaft with great care as it must not be bent.
4 Hold the shaft with one hand and press the spinner inwards to compress spring (item 8).
Rotate the spinner a quarter of a turn. Gently pull the spinner off the shaft.
5 The Spring (item 8), spacer (item 10) and lower bearing (item 12) can now be removed.
6 The third bearing (item 12) is located in the centre recess of the bottom nose and can be
pulled out with the help of a hooked piece of wire.
This is the reverse of the disassembly procedure with the following notes:
2 Fit new Bearings (3 off item 12), and lubricate with a light oil prior to storage (not WD40 as
it is too thin and leaves a tacky film on the bearing surfaces after drying).
3 Clean and grease O’Ring seals using silicone grease. Replace the following O’Rings:
NOTE: O’Ring item 17 is environmental only and not a pressure seal, but should be replaced if damaged.
Each part of the rotating assembly is separately balanced but small amounts of overall imbalance
can be corrected by slightly filing the tip of the ‘heaviest’ spinner blade.
5 Important: When the magnet assembly (item 6) has been screwed on there must be an
end float of between 0.005″ and 0.020″ to allow for thermal expansion of the body relative
to the main shaft. If not, the bearings will stick at high temperature under end load and
may be permanently damaged.
1.4 MAINTENANCE
Before logging the tool must be oil filled; see CFBE Manual.
After logging the bearings must be cleaned and lubricated; see CFBE Manual.
If the tool experiences H2S gas or temperatures above 150°C, the following Spinner Section O’
rings must be replaced:
Several main parts of the Sensor Section are made from Al/Bronze and will change colour from
bronze to black as a sulphide layer is created by H2S gas. This layer should not be removed by
polishing.
