0 ELECTRICAL FEATURES AND LINE DISTURBANCE

Disturbances on the power line may be caused by several factors such as:
- Starting / Stopping of electric motors.
- Atmospheric phenomena.
- Connection and disconnection of high line loads.

Serious power supply line disturbances have negative effects on the system.

An efficient ground connection is necessary to reduce line disturbances and guarantee the
maximum safety to the operator.

Power Supply: 220V AC ± 10% 50/60 Hz

Distribution: 1 phase, neutral and ground

1.7.1 Main Board

The Main Board is the brain of the instrument. All electronic parts are linked to and controlled by
the Main Board.
The Main Board receives commands from external computer. IAP microprocessor takes control of
all actions in the machine. Also, the program for this board is stored inside.
All the movement of mechanical parts is driven by step motor unit. The microprocessor drives 8
stepper motor control and 8 OPB of the mechanical parts.
The microprocessor drives amplifier board in the optical unit. The resolution of the amplifier is 16
bit.
The Main Board is driven by three power supports: +12V, -12V and 27V.

1.7.2 Motor Driver Board

The Motor Driver Board is responsible for driver

step motors. The Main Board has total 8 pcs of
Motor Driver Board, all identical with one
another.

No need for adjustment.

1.7.3 Amplifier Board

The Amplifier Board is responsible for detecting the light

signal from Reaction Liquid and amplifying it. The
Instrument contains 8 pcs of the same board receiving
different wavelengths from 340nm to 700nm.
The Amplifier Board detects the signal, which is sent to the
Main Board and then converted to Abs.
The Main Board supports 8 trimmers to adjust gain and
offset of amplifiers.

No need for adjustment.

1.7.4 Liquid Control Board

The Board controls Vacuum Pump and one Electro

Valve. It is controlled by microprocessor of Main
Board.

No need for adjustment.

14
AE series SME Ver. 2.02
1.7.5 Level Sensor Board

The Level Sensor Board functions with probe capacitance sensor.

The capacitance changes when the tip of probe touches the liquid. This change is measured by
microprocessor on the Sensor Board and the differential result is conveyed to the microprocessor of
Main Board.

Adjustment of Liquid Level Sensor:

Liquid level sensor is sensitive to the environment (humidity, temperature, ground etc.). Level
Sensor needs to be adjusted when the probe does not run normally due to level sensing problem.
Adjust the volume on the Level Sensor Board by the following procedures:

1. Usually the green LED is on. Turn the volume anticlockwise until the LED goes out.
2. After the LED is out, set a finger to the position approx. 10mm from the tip of the probe and turn
the volume clockwise until the LED is on. After the LED is on, turn clockwise about 3 more times
(attention – the probe will be unable to detect the liquid level if the volume is turned too much).

If adjusted properly, the LED will go out for a moment when the tip of probe reaches liquid level.

For Sample probe (New Type)

LED

1. Confirm the current level of sensitivity. Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram
below for a moment. As LED on the board starts to blink on and off, count the number of
times it blinks. The number of the blinks directly shows the current level of sensitivity.

Front Back

15
AE series SME Ver. 2.02
2. When increasing the level (decrease sensitivity), the following procedure must be followed.
Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram below for a moment. As soon as the LED
on the board starts to blink, short-circuit the yellow-arrowed pins. Keep the shorted status
while LED continues to blink. This procedure lowers one senstivity level.

Front Back

3. When decreasing the level (increasing sensitivity), the following procedure must be followed.
Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram below for a moment. As soon as the LED
on the board starts to blink, short-circuit the yellow-arrowed pins. Keep the shorted status
while LED continues to blink. This procedure raises one sensitivity level.

Front Back

4. After adjusting the level, go back to the procedure (1) to confirm the changed sensitivity.

For Reagent probe (New Type)

LED

1. Confirm the current level of sensitivity. Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram
below for a moment. As LED on the board starts to blink on and off, count the number of
times it blinks. The number of the blinks directly shows the current level of sensitivity.

Front Back

16
AE series SME Ver. 2.02
2. When increasing the level (deacreasing sensitivity), the following procedure must be followed.
Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram below for a moment. As soon as the LED
on the board starts to blink, short-circuit the yellow-arrowed pins. Keep the shorted status
while LED continues to blink. This procedure lowers one senstivity level.

Front Back

3. When decreasing the level (inceasing sensitivity), the following procedure must be followed.
Short-circuit the blue-arrowed pins in the diagram below for a moment. As soon as the LED
on the board starts to blink, short-circuit the yellow-arrowed pins. Keep the shorted status
while LED continues to blink. This procedure raises one senstivity level.

Front Back

4. After adjusting the level, go back to the procedure (1) to confirm the changed sensitivity.

1.7.6 Bridge Board

The Bridge Board relays signals from the

Main Board to drive motors and solenoid
valves. The Board also relays signals
from each Photo Micro Sensor to the Main
Board.

No need for adjustment.

3 PARTS TESTING

This menu is used for testing the mechanical parts.

FIELD/BUTTON ACTION DESCRIPTION

Reagent Syringe Field In the blank beside each syringe name, input
the reagent volume that the syringe will
Sample Syringe
aspirate. Then click executing button. Syringe
begins to run and aspirate the solutions on
request. Then click Reset to reset it to the
initial position. If the syringe cannot run or the
volume is incorrect, the syringe encounters
malfunction.
Temperature Field Click Get Temperature button to view the
indicated temperature. If it is different from the
actual cell temperature, input the number of
the difference and click Adjust to adjust the
temperature.

Reagent Height Field Input reagent position in the No. box and click
check mark. Probe runs to check the liquid

36

level of reagent. Pulse number of the
remaining reagent level will be indicated In the
box below. The color of the box (background)
will be displayed in yellow if the remaining
level is low, and in red if there is no remaining
reagent.
Sample Height Field Input sample position in the No. box and click
check mark. Probe runs to check the liquid
level of sample. Pulse number of the
remaining sample level will be indicated in the
box below. The color of the box (background)
will be displayed in yellow if the remaining
level is low, and in red if there is no remaining
sample.
A/D Reading Field Before checking A/D reading, remove reaction
cells 61 – 120 while the power is off. Turn on
the power and let it idle for about 30 minutes.
Then go to Parts Testing menu and click the
check button for A/D reading. A/D value will
be displayed next to each wavelength.
Confirm that the values are around 50,000
with the condition that all the cells are
removed. Click the buttons in order of Set ‘0’,
Save ‘0’. Finish A/D reading by once again
clicking the check button.
If the values are below 20,000, the lamp must
be replaced.
