In India, despite significant economic growth over the past few decades, poverty
remains a persistent issue affecting millions. According to official estimates,
around 21% of India's population lives below the national poverty line. This
translates to over 270 million people struggling to meet their basic needs such as
food, shelter, and healthcare.
Income inequality is also stark in India. The wealthiest individuals and families
hold a disproportionate share of the country's wealth, while a large segment of
the population, particularly in rural areas and urban slums, faces economic
marginalization. This inequality is reflected in disparities in access to education,
healthcare, and opportunities for economic advancement.
