Lacoonian System, an alliance of several galaxies and thousands of
planets. You are part of a Rapid Force crew from Lacoos tasked with
bringing him down before he can carry out his sinister plans.
This is a cooperative game in which players work together as a team
to defeat the Evil Power Master. Your crew must use data, clues, and an
ingenious algorithm to boost a radio signal that will lead you to the Evil
Power Master’s location.
If your crew discovers the Evil Power Master’s location before he realizes
his evil scheme, a final battle ensues. If the crew defeats the Evil Power
Master, the Lacoonian System is saved. Otherwise, it is destroyed, and all
order in the System is lost!

 END OF THE GAME
When you reach the end of the second planet, your crew will find the
Evil Power Master’s lair and continue to a Final Showdown with that evil
goon! You will need to defeat the Evil Power Master to win the game in
this showdown, and you are certainly not ready for the challenges you
will face...
Note: A card saying that character or multiple characters are killed has
no effect on gameplay. That character remains in play, and you should
continue following the instructions on cards to progress the story.
FINAL SHOWDOWN
In preparation for the Final Showdown, make all Characters Active. In
addition, Characters may freely exchange item cards if they wish.
The Final Showdown is played by the same rules as the rest of the
game, but the stakes are much higher. The fate of your crew and the entire
Lacoonian System will be determined by your success or failure in the
upcoming Challenges.
The last card of the Final Showdown will tell you whether the Rapid
Force team is victorious or if the Evil Power Master rules supreme!

demands. “We both knew he would be

“I hoped we had destroyed him in the
Purple Days War,” Chen says. “So many
lives lost. So much carnage. So much
purple.”

with the Lacoonian Congress,” Chen
says. “We must plan for our defense . . .

Chen and Flppto lead the other
unit commanders into the Lacoonian
Congress. Countless voices fill the Great
Hall, speaking hundreds of languages.
The dread in their eyes is clear. Every
conversation is about the Evil Power
Master. Doing a new evil thing.
Chen meets with Tara, the
Congressional spokesperson. Tara is
respected for her firmness and wisdom
in Congress, and for being a fierce veter-
an of the Purple Days War.
“I knew that evil drip wouldn’t stay
quiet for long,” Tara says.
Before Chen can reply, the Great Hall
is silenced by a booming, metallic voice.
It is the voice of the Evil Power Master.

“We got him now!” Dante cries. “The
Evil Power Master’s message led us right
to him . . . almost.”
Tara’s smile fades. “Almost?”
“He bounced the message through
nine planets,” says Dante, “including a
base here on Lacoos. He must be on
one of those nine. We’ll have to explore
the planets to find him.”
Flppto looks at the readouts. “The
signal is too weak to pinpoint his
location,” he says, grabbing the last
cinna-star bagel from the table.
“Then it will be like looking for an evil
needle among nine haystacks,” Chen
says, his stomach growling. “Or a bacte-
rium burrowing among nine gigantic
cinna-star bagels.”
Flppto shoots Chen a side-eye.
“You’re not getting one bite out of this
bagel,” he hisses.
“No time for bagels!” snaps Tara. “We
need to boost that signal.”

The Hall erupts in chaos, with repre-
sentatives from across the Lacoonian
System all rushing to contact their
homeworlds. Rapid Force is on their
own now.
Tara is smiling, however. “Come with
me,” she says. “This may be our break.”
Chen is confused, but he trusts Tara.
She saved his butt more than once
during the war. And he’d like to continue
to keep his butt intact.
Tara takes Chen and Flppto to a
computer room, where her one-eyed,
one-eyebrowed droid, Dante, sits in
front of a console.

Flppto’s forehead wrinkles. “If we visit
planets where the Evil Power Master has
been, we can collect more transmission
data,” he says. “I can use the data to
design an algorithm to boost the signal.”
“Then we can find him!” says Tara.
“Flppto and I will head out on the
Fizzlit,” says Chen.
“Dante and I are coming too,” says
Tara. “Four heads are better than two.”
“And 18 arms are better than four,”
says Dante.
“And this bagel is gone,” says Flppto,
polishing off the last bite.

the leader of the Global Coalition,” Tara
says. “She will be more trustworthy, and
may have intelligence to share.”
“I’ve also read reports about a new
group of extremists gathering power,”
Flppto adds.
“Too many choices,” says Dante.
“Can not compute all variables.”
“Like I said,” says Tara. “Long shot!”
“Either way,” says Chen, “I know there
are a lot of wild and strange beasts on
Proxima Centauri. And I’m pretty sure I
brought something along on the ship that
Proxima will easily make short work of all of them.
If I can only remember where I put it . . .”

Rapid Force and the Renegades have
both sent Centauri warriors into battle
over the years, sometimes against
one another. Their Renegade ties and
constant interfaction wars have always
kept the Centauri out of the Lacoonian
System, but the Global Coalition, a new
Centauri provisional government, is
lobbying to change that.
“This seems like a long shot,” Tara
says as Dante pilots the ship past the
trinary star system’s red dwarf star. “The
reports are pretty thin.”
“The Evil One did use Centauri merce-
naries during the Purple Days War,”
replies Flppto.
Commander Chen remembers a
name from the war. “We should speak
with General Gadd.”
“Didn’t he fight for us?” asks Tara.
Chen nods. “Yes, but he’s now consid-
ered a rebel by the provisional govern-
ment.”

The crew is ushered in to see
Governor Genga, the leader of the
Global Coalition. Genga is a Centauri
woman with gray skin standing five feet
tall and almost as wide. Her broad, chis-
eled face breaks into a huge smile and
she rushes around her desk. Chen fears
she may crush him in a bear hug.
Instead, she shakes Tara’s hand,
nearly breaking her arm. “Welcome,
Congresswoman,” she says. “What can
I do to help the Lacoonian System and
Rapid Force?”
“We’re hunting the Evil Power Master,”
Tara says, rubbing her sore arm.
“He is not here!” Genga says quickly.
“Proxima Centauri has officially severed
ties with all Renegade elements.”
“We are searching for ‘unofficial’ asso-
ciations,” Chen says, curling his fingers
into quotes to drive home his meaning.
“Have your security forces uncovered
anything you can share?”

Few buildings remain standing at the
spaceport. A long terminal sits along the
edge. A crumbling stone tower in the
middle is surrounded by landing pads,
most of which are covered in rubble. At
the far end, a few hangars still stand.
As the crew surveys the area, a delta
wing transport ship descends toward
a clear pad behind the tower. Chen
motions everyone to take cover and
watch.
Shortly after the ship lands, a dozen
armed Centauri emerge from the termi-
nal and march toward a tall humanoid
who descends from the ship.
“Is that him?” Chen prods Dante. “Is
that the Evil Power Master?”
The droid extends a night-vision
scope. “Negative. It’s a reptilian human-
oid,” Dante says, “from the Renegade
planet Denoss.”
“This is an arms deal,” says Tara.

Genga’s smile disappears, and she
retreats behind her desk. “You may
investigate our files if you wish,” she
says.
The governor tries to collect the
papers spread on her desk. “As you can
see, I’m actually quite busy. My aide will
show you the way.”
One sheet slips through her thick
fingers, and Genga almost topples her
chair scrambling to grab the paper as it
falls.

old, but it’s the only lead the crew has on
this militant rebel faction.
“The report says they’ve resorted
to terrorism,” Flppto says as the crew
sneaks through Kosov, a burned-out
Centauri city.
“Just the kind of fanatics the Evil Guy
would employ,” Tara says.
“The base is near,” says Chen. “Scans
detect 15 life signs.”
“They are inside an abandoned securi-
ty station,” Flppto adds.

The crew approaches the rear of the
hangar and peeks through shattered
windows. Inside, Centauri extremists
stack weapon crates next to stores of
explosives, large-caliber weapons, and
a few armored vehicles. Several crates
lie empty, their contents already stowed
in packs lashed to muscular, tusked
gaurogs.
“Where are these going?” asks one
Centauri. He grabs a saddle and hauls
himself onto the back of a beast. Several

The gaurog’s paws compress
Commander Chen’s chest. The beast
snorts again, fouling the air, and shifts its
weight. A sharp pain sears Chen’s legs
as the gaurog extends its claws.
Biting back the pain, Chen tries to
think before the beast can stab him with
its claws or gore him with its waving
tusks.
The rider seems to be ignoring Chen,
which he feels is a blessing until he hears
the report of a laser rifle followed by
Flppto screaming. A second laser fires,
and Tara screams. Chen has one chance
and one chance only.
“Dante!” he calls. “Blaster!” Chen
waves his hand in the air, and, amaz-
ingly, he feels the cold, hard grip of a
blaster hit his palm, followed by another
laser blast and the CLANG of a metal
body hitting the ground. Chen closes his
hand around the blaster, raises his arm,
and fires at the beast’s chest.

base of the stairs. The group climbs up.

Chen throws himself against a wall. Tara
dives beside Chen and shoots the guard
who fired on them. Chen moves into the
tower room. A figure appears.
“Good morning,” says Governor

Flppto pulls out a pair of force-cuffs.
“By the power of Rapid Force, I place
you under arrest,” he says, yanking the
governor’s hands behind her back.
“Too late,” she says. “I’ve already
sent the Evil Power Master a hologram
message. You’ll never catch him.”

commander has always known Gadd as
a straight shooter on and off the battle-
field.
“My dear Commander,” says the
general. A broad smile creases the
jagged scar on his slate-gray face. “To
what do I owe the pleasure?”
After a crushing embrace, Chen takes
a moment to refill his lungs. “We think
the Evil Power Master may be recruiting
again,” he says. “If anyone knows about
clandestine deals on this rock, it’s you!”
Gadd claps Chen on the back, knock-
ing him forward. “Come to my tent,” he
says. “We will dine, and I will tell you
what I know.”
Over a meal of roasted gaurog, a wild
Centaurian beast, Gadd explains that the
extremist faction broke away from his
rebellion and is now intent on bringing
down the Global Coalition at any cost.

“Your intel is quite detailed,” Chen says
as he moves into position with Gadd.
“You have someone on the inside?”
Gadd’s stony gaze lingers for a second
before he turns his attention to the
jungle. “They are here,” he says.
A moment later, Proxima Centauri’s
scarlet twilight lights up from flashes
of weapon fire in the jungle. At first,
Gadd’s rebels have the upper hand as
bullets tear through the foliage and bring
down a half dozen extremists.
But the extremists rally quickly. Violet
laser blasts hit their mark again and
again, vaporizing rebel foot soldiers.
“Those guns are new!” yells Gadd.
“The extremists have been making
friends,” Tara cries. It’s hard to see in
the low light, but the purple laser flashes
from their weapons make great targets.
Chen, Flppto, and Tara return fire and
drop several attackers.

“My intel says the extremists plan to
meet a group of off-worlders at dawn,”
he says after dinner.
“Let’s crash that meeting,” Tara says.
“It’s at an abandoned spaceport,”
says Gadd. “But I have a more pressing
concern.” He leans in. “The extremists
want me dead. We expect an attack at
any time. Will you help me?”

Chen and Gadd fire at the onrushing
beast rider. Chen’s shot rips through the
gaurog’s tusk, bringing it down. Gadd’s
blast finishes off the rider. Flppto and
Tara turn back to face the other riders as
Dante directs the action from above. In a
few minutes the extremists are all dead.
“You owe me an explanation,” Chen
says to Gadd, who is examining a laser
rifle.
“They went and did it,” Gadd says
with a scowl. “Yes, I will come clean, old
friend. The fate of my planet is at stake.”
Gadd explains that the extremists
broke away from his rebellion after the
Evil Power Master contacted him. “I
turned down his help,” he says. “I know
too well the cost we would pay.”
“That was smart thinking,” says Tara.
Chen presses for more. “How did the
Evil One contact you?” he asks. “I need
to know everything.”
Gadd sighs and says that the aban-

can bring the extremists to heel.”

“Yes,” says Flppto. “It’s Purple, the
planet we saved from the Evil Power
Master during the Purple Days War.”

The thought of Purple raises old
demons. Chen focuses on the task at
hand. “Where is the beam heading?” he
asks.
“Impossible to tell,” says Dante, after
analyzing Sartan’s data. “No known
planet lies in its path.”
“We need a Void ship,” Tara says.
“There, I can help,” says Sartan. She
leads the crew to a small spacecraft
shaped like an arrowhead: a Void ship
built to push through Dark Energy.
Chen looks at Flppto and smiles.
“Perfect. Just like the one we flew in the
Purple Days War,” he says.
Flppto raises an eyebrow. “I don’t
recall those days being perfect,” he says.
A sleek droid is fueling the ship. “You
can take the droid,” says Sartan. “It’s an
excellent Void pilot.”
Dante clatters over to the droid and
asks, “What is your make and model?”

Dante flies the ship into the Void and
follows the energy beam to its source.
Chen thinks about Purple. Without a
star, its people lived in near-total dark-
ness with no technology. Yet they were
a happy society that crafted tools, made
shelters, and lived off the land.
That was before the Evil Power Master
subjugated them. He devised Void-
piercing technology and attacked the
galaxy from the safety of Purple.
“We have reached Purple,” says
Flppto, bringing Chen back from his
reverie. The violet-colored planet is bare-
ly noticeable within the Void’s miasma,
but the white beam flares like a beacon.

the cabin goes white. Searing pain rips
through the crew, like their veins are
pumping lava and their nerves are on
fire.
Chen tries to scream but can only
gurgle. Similar gurgles come from
Flppto and Tara.
Dark spots appear on Chen’s arms,
and his muscles wither. Next to him,
Tara’s papery skin hangs limp.
Chen turns to look at Flppto, almost
fainting from the pain. Flppto’s green
body has turned ashen, and his bulbous
head lolls on his sunken chest.
“An instant aging beam?” Chen asks
no one in particular. His heartbeat is
irregular, and he labors to breathe.
“Looks like it,” says Dante. The droid’s
one eye droops and looks wrinkled.
“Get us . . . out of . . . here,” Chen
gasps.
“Taking evasive action,” calls Dante.

They both know if the crew escapes,
the Purpleans will be punished. If there is

Master,” Tara says. “If we surrender,
you’ll kill us or make us suffer forever!”
Chen whips out his blaster and aims
at the Evil One. “This ends now!” he
screams and pulls the trigger.
Nothing happens.

cover the floor. “I manipulated the Dark
Energy shield surrounding the base to
exclude his cell,” explains Rendoxoll. “I
assumed that would prevent him from

Chen deduces the rest. “He searched
for spaces where the shield was weak
and exploited them.”
“Exactly,” says Rendoxoll, his mechan-
ical voice tinged with regret. “It took him
years, but his evil is persistent.”
“That evil goon!” says Tara, making
a fist.
“Once out,” says Rendoxoll, “he
found my Void-capable teletransporter
and disappeared.”
“What is that in the corner?” Dante
asks, pointing several arms at a small
object barely visible beneath the shards

The white beam pushes through

approaches, the beam fills the screen.
“It’s enormous!” Chen says. “What in
the seven moons of Gobo is that?”
In answer, twelve delta wings appear
as if they had flown out of a long tunnel.
The group breaks into three squadrons
and attacks a hexagonal space station.
“No record of that station,” says
Dante.
“They need our help!” Tara cries.
Four delta wings turn toward the Void
ship. Energy weapons don’t function in
the Void, so Chen and Flppto fire round
rocks at the ships from pneumatic tubes.

Their hairless bodies look like they’ve

The heroes of Rapid Force charge into
the Evil Power Master’s lair. Across the
enormous room stands the Evil Power
Master, a smug grin on his wicked face.

He grabs a cord dangling from the ceil-

a hangar door, and thousands of Rapid
Force fanboys and fangirls swarm into
the room, a stampede of adoration.
They quickly overwhelm the crew.
Pens are pressed into Chen’s hands to
sign dashing photos. Breathless group-
ies in copycat hairstyles ask Tara who
she’s wearing. Devotees’ selfie sticks
appear in all of Dante’s appendag-
es. And one fan is waving a copy of

to a deep-sea base on Kronur, a planet
so beautiful, the galaxy put a ring on it.

A light bulb goes off over Flppto’s
head, and he mumbles something to
Dante. The droid pops open his top, and
the Martian busies himself. The sound
of liquid pouring and the WHIR of an
electric mixer is heard, then Dante snaps
closed and hovers, spinning around and
around.

. . . and lands right back in the Evil
Power Master’s grip! Great reflexes. No
suprise he was a jock in middle school.
“LOOKS LIKE EYE STILL HAVE
THE ADVANTAGE!” he laugh-shouts.
No one joins in his laughter. “EYE,
AS IN SEEING, NOT I AS IN ME.” No
response. “NOW THAT I’M SAYING IT,
I SEE WHY IT DIDN’T LAND.”
Flppto coughs.
“ANYWAY. PREPARE TO MEET
YOUR DOOM!”
This is a big moment for the Evil Power
Master. He flips through the options on
the recombinator’s tiny screen. So many
choices! Lemurs, Rutabagas, Dung
Beetles, Platypuses, Random . . . Ah,
the Random setting. Fun!
He twists the dial, levels the musket,
and fires. A beam of pure, unfiltered
mutation hits the crew, shrinking them
down into . . . brine shrimp!

Just to anger the Evil Power Master—
and on some level, hold on to his 15
minutes of fame—Chen autographs the
wall.
“NO! WHAT ARE YOU—?!” utters
the Evil Power Master. “NO . . . MAKE
IT OUT TO MY COUSIN, CAROL
OR
POWER MASTER. HUGE FAN.”
Flptto clears his throat. “You
mentioned something sweet, Evil Power
Master? How about the sweetest dish of
all: vengeance!”

He collects them in his palm and
dumps them in a tank. The crew cowers
together, as the other shrimp in the tank
circle them—shrimp with a scampy look
about them. Chen, to his horror, recog-
nizes them as ex-cons from the planet
Mandor in the Zaross System. And they
don’t look too friendly . . .

Suddenly, the adoring throngs disinte-
grate into a fine dust, providing both a
clear path to the Evil Power Master and
a profound metaphor for the fleeting
nature of fame. The confused crew is left
holding pens and posing for no one, but
Dante BEEPS triumphantly.
“He tried to trick us with cheap
Manzarian androids, but I pulsed their
self-destruct frequency and smoked
them.” He spins in excited circles. “No
droid is smarter than me!”
Chen, autograph book in hand, strug-
gles to hide his disappointment. “Phew!
I’m so glad all those people who loved
me weren’t real.”
The Evil Power Master stares slack-
jawed at Dante. “CURSES! I KNEW
I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE
EXTENDED PROTECTION PLAN.
STILL, YOU CANNOT ESCAPE MY
MOST FIENDISH WEAPON YET: THE
DNA RECOMBINATOR MUSKET!”

Tara gasps. “Not a recombobulator!”
The Evil Power Master shakes his head
and sighs. “RE-COM-BIN-A-TOR.”
“That’s what I said!” Tara snaps, indig-
nant. The back-and-forth continues, and
Flppto takes advantage of the distraction
to pick up a headshot of Chen and fold
it into a perfectly pointy paper airplane.
OR He launches it across the room, and
it hits the Evil Power Master squarely in
the left eye just as he waves his weapon
for emphasis. The musket flies out of his
hand, cartwheeling through the air . . .
