Writing a Comparison Essay
Students will be able to write a comparison essay using the block method.

Introduction The introduction includes a hook and gives
the reader connecting information to
understand the main idea of the essay. The
thesis statement focuses on what two topics
the writer will be comparing.
Body Paragraphs There are at least two body paragraphs
present. Body paragraphs topic sentence,
example, explanation, and concluding
sentence. The topic sentence of each body
paragraph has a clear topic and three
comparison points about the topic. The
concluding sentences summarizes the main
idea of the body paragraph.
Conclusion There is a restatement of the thesis
statement, summary of topic sentences, and
a closing sentence. The student did not just
simply copy-paste the thesis statement and
topic sentences, but rather stated the main
ideas using different words.
