CHAPTER 03 : EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

My experiential learning

During my internship in the mining industry, I had the invaluable opportunity to delve into the critical
aspects of worker safety and health firsthand. The experience provided a profound insight into the
multifaceted challenges and the proactive measures essential for ensuring the well-being of personnel within
this high-risk environment.

One of the most compelling aspects of my internship was witnessing the daily operations where safety
protocols were not just guidelines but a lifeline for every worker. From the moment I stepped onto the site, I
observed stringent adherence to safety regulations, ranging from personal protective equipment (PPE)
requirements to thorough risk assessments before any task commencement. This meticulous approach
underscored the industry's commitment to minimizing hazards and fostering a culture where safety is
nonnegotiable.

Moreover, engaging directly with safety officers and participating in safety training sessions underscored
the importance of continuous education and awareness. I learned firsthand how these sessions not only equip
workers with necessary skills but also instill a mindset where vigilance and proactive hazard identification
become second nature.

Beyond procedural aspects, my internship allowed me to grasp the broader implications of workplace
health and safety initiatives. I saw how ergonomic assessments and health monitoring programs contribute
not only to injury prevention but also to the overall well-being and productivity of the workforce.
Understanding the integration of health initiatives into daily operations highlighted the industry's holistic
approach to safeguarding its most valuable asset—its people.

a safe working environment. Whether through daily toolbox talks or incident debriefings, the emphasis on

TASKS UNDERTAKEN

The topic I choose for my internship report is workers safety and health in mining industry but also I
experienced various works such as

A.Maintaining registrar

Registrar is book used to write the boulders supplied to parties in a specific period of time . here we
write the party name , tare weight (vehicle weight) , material weight , gross weight , net weight, time , date,
query name, material. It is maintained for the purpose of auditing works as a physical evidence to show the
auditor.

B.MDP ( mineral dispatch permit )

Firstly lets know wht is MDP - “Mineral Dispatch Permit” (MDP) means a “Permit” issued under rule-3.
Development Act, 1957. prospecting license, trader in minerals, owner of mineral stock yard, any one in
possession of mineral(s) in its natural state or a Firm or a Company established under the Company's Act,
1956. (Central Act 1 of 1956). It is another work I experienced during my internship. I used to print the
mineral dispatch permits and issued to the related parties.

C.Weighment

Starting from the extraction to shipping, weighbridge allows you to accurately track the weight across all
the various sites and locations. Weighbridge weighs the vehicle weight and material weght accurately .
weighbridge is connected to computer so when the vehicle stops on the weigh bridge it automatically weighs
its weight , it is connected to computer so here we enter the party name , vehicle type, material , vehicle
number , net weight and gross weight and finally we save the data for future purposes.

D.Query

visits During my internship I also visited the query to see the operations going there. Visiting a quarry
offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of extracting materials from the earth. Here are my observations:

1.Noise and Activity

The quarry is a hive of activity, with the constant rumble of machinery and the shouts of workers filling
the air. Excavators, bulldozers, and trucks are in constant motion, hauling away materials or reshaping the
terrain.

2.Safety Measures

Safety is paramount in a quarry environment. I noticed extensive safety protocols in place, such as
warning signs, barriers, and designated pedestrian pathways. Workers may be seen wearing personal
protective equipment (PPE) like hard hats, steel-toed boots, and high-visibility vests.

3.Environmental Consideration

Quarries often operate under strict environmental regulations. Observed measures taken to mitigate
environmental impact, such as sediment control systems, reclamation efforts, or wildlife habitat restoration
projects.

4.Material Extraction Process

Witnessing the extraction process firsthand can be enlightening. Whether it's blasting, drilling, or
