T6 Hilariously Weird First Date Ideas

Because sometimes dinner and a movie is just too easy

BY KENNY THAPOUNG April 9, 2014

When it comes to planning the perfect first date, location is pretty crucial, but that
doesn't mean everyone wants to wine and dine at a fancy bistro. Australian rapper Iggy
Azalea recently told Power 105.1 that she and Lakers player Nick Young shopped at
Target on their first rendezvous. "You can learn so much about someone at Target," said
Iggy. "I was like, 'What kind of quilts are you into, what's your favorite movie, what kind
of snacks do you like?'" OK, so shopping for socks may not be romantic, but it definitely
isn't a bad way to get to know someone! So we rounded up a few of the awkward, crazy,
and surprisingly cool places some of our readers have gone on first dates. Your
usual coffee meet-up is about to sound very boring.

SOUL(MATE) TRAIN
"One of my first dates was basically on the subway. There
was an art exhibit with mosaics, sculptures, and murals
located throughout the entire NYC subway system. I
went on a first date with this guy where the goal was to
see all the newly installed art pieces throughout the city.
The date lasted over 12 hours, most of which was spent
on the subway—plenty of time to get to know each other.
We decided to keep things platonic after that, but it's still
one of the most fun dates I've ever had!" –Cassie D.*

PLAYING HOUSE
"A guy took me to this really upscale neighborhood late
at night, and we snuck into this huge house that was
being built. It definitely didn't belong to anyone we
knew, so it was kind of exciting knowing that we could
get in trouble if we got caught. We just wandered around
and made up stories about the house as if it was our
home: picking out imaginary tile and discussing
imaginary furniture layouts. It was so much fun and
definitely one of the best first dates I've ever had." –
Rachel W.
HAPPY MEAL, HAPPY TIMES
"I once went to McDonald's on a first date with the guy and
his kids. It was kind of fun actually." –Aviva S.

GEEKING OUT
"I know nothing about science, and this guy took me to a
computer developer meet-and-greet with a ton of tech-y
dudes. As he was showing me his upcoming project, two
obviously drunk guys came up and hit on me while my date
was right there! I totally felt out of place and uncomfortable,
but my date took me to a bar with a more relaxed atmosphere
after that. We're going on our third date soon." –Lynn B.*

A BUG'S LIFE
"I went to the bug zoo in Victoria, B.C. on a first date. You get
to learn about lots of creepy crawlies, and hold tarantulas and
scorpions! I thought it was a great date—and we went on a
few more after that." –Sarah R.

KIND OF WILD RIDE

"I went out with a guy for the first time at Six Flags Great
Adventure, but we had two totally different game plans for
the day. All he wanted to do was go on the Superman ride
while I just wanted to eat Dippin' Dots. We did a little of both
activities, but he was way too adventurous for me." –Amy T.*
